What happened after we killed Hemming? I take it that we left in a hurry. Did we grab any additional magic items before we left? Kimball took the Jarl's head and torc. The party, along with the surviving northman and the woman, searched the Jarl's room and detected magic on everything we could- We found: War Horn of the West magic hand axe magic broadsword magic shortsword magic platemail magic chainmail magic shield x3 magic spear magic dagger potion of sweethingyer (identified by Basil) (apparently sweet water as a compound word has something inappropriate in it) potion potion 2 sets magic "dwur"-sized chainmail magic morning star Think that's it. We looted Hackon's corpse in the main hall and Harold's down in the cellar before we left. Climbing down the secret passage hidden in the Jarl's room we found ourselves back in the room with the cart & pony. The cart was loaded with stuff (including a metal coffer we haven't opened). 1 giant-sized "dwur" and a regular one tried to ambush Basil and Kimball, with our low health it was scary but we prevailed. The northman whose name starts with a J and the woman who thus far has no name, are without furs and snowshoes so they were wrapped in the ceremonial cloak of the Martens and stuck on the cart. Upon fleeing the stronghold we ran into the squirrel Ratatok who was waiting for us. By morning the Marten Clan (Hengir and probably the villains that attacked the elves) will be pursuing us with dogs and trackers so we're heading south, through the night, toward Kerava. I think we should kill them.

For what it is worth, I don't make the word filter.
Jannick is your guy's name.
I did miss a bit treasure as you were checking out the room where Hemming, the cleric and the dwur was.
If you want to pick any of that up, we can write a note for it next time we play.

Rather than flee all the way back to Ingvar with our tails between our legs, I think we should consider ambushing the pursuing Martens. Northmen don't see very well in the dark, so we draw them out of Skalkegaard and hit them at night. Take out their sentries with Hold Person, Sleep, etc. Or we go to the Jarlsgarden where we can Entangle. Have a couple Call Lightnings prepared. Attack them from Invisibility with Hold Person, Sleep, etc. It'll depend on what powers our squirrel friend has, and whether we can rest. If we get 4 hours to sleep and 4 hours to memorize, they'll be upon us.

How do we know they will be tracking us? Was there any sighting of Hengir or the guys that attacked the elves? Do we assume they are down in the village and someone has gone for help?
Did we want to get help from the Fox clan?
Any chance Ratatosk can lead us to the Fairy road and get us to Kerava more quickly?

Jannick said that Hengir was in Skalkegaard with the dudes that brought Hemming the horn from the elves. Supposedly the evil priest got away and went to go rouse the townspeople. Did we want to get help from the Fox clan? Our northman ally explained that the Fox Clan is far too weak to stand up to the Marten Clan and that they wouldn't help us. Any chance Ratatosk can lead us to the Fairy road and get us to Kerava more quickly? The Jarlsgarden is probably the nearest access to Kerava we're going to find on the Fairy Road but that is a great suggestion and we should definitely ask.

Jannick said that Hengir was in the town drinking with the newly returned clan champions who had returned with this fancy horn. They've been feasting constantly for a week to celebrate it. Those names matched the names we were looking for. Jannick said that after this outrage, the entire Martin clan would sweat bloodoaths against us and not rest until us and our entire family lines were ended. Given the strength of the martin clan vs. the fox clan, Jannick said they wouldn't risk helping us. Jannick said that at first light Heming will take the clan trackers and bloodhounds to find us.
Ratatosk said his powers are "great" and that he'll get them in the morning after sleeping in the cart. Who knows what that means.

Once we are in a safe place Basil or Morvan could use the Reflecting Pool spell to take a look at Cullen and Viggo. We would need some nut oil.

Between Zinc and Morvan we can affect the whole party with a Water Walk spell.
While the duration isn't all that useful for overland travel (1 turn + 1 turn/level) it would be pretty cool for a combat. Imagine us getting full move and dexterity and them, on snowshoes, being encumbered.

More useful than PfE 10' Radius, since most of the people pursuing us are probably non-evil.

More useful than PfE 10' Radius, since most of the people pursuing us are probably non-evil. Water Walk is 3rd level actually. The War-Horn works like a big prayer so we've got that covered. I suppose it's one less available Remove Paralysis or Call Lightning but I think it's a good option.

From the write-up it sounds like the Marten clan will be particularly angry that we took the ceremonial robes. Maybe we should leave those behind. Or do you think the fact that we killed the clan leader and 30+ members of the clan pretty much sealed the deal? If giving back the robes will defray the pursuit I think it is worth it. What does Jannick think?
Question for DM: How larger is a clan? 1000? 10000?

Maybe we should Speak With Dead on Hemming's head. Any ideas what to ask him?

I can speak with Hemming's head a month after death, so it's no rush. Water walk sounds like a great idea. They will presumably be a big group, so we'll want to hit them, and fall back, to not get surrounded.

How went the wolf hunt?

Attempted to track the wolf outside Kerava with little success. Night came and we made camp. Divination showed the wolf was east of us so we searched in the dark. Morning revealed the wolf had circled our camp. Followed the wolf tracks until we seemingly lost the trail -- Kimball used the magic lens to track harder and discovered the wolf had obscured its trail with its tail and was looping around us. We circled each other for a while until we did some kind of parabola and sighted the beast -- it took off at like an 18". We gave chase. Basil took to the air in bird form and lost it in a snow-filled gully. Kimball crested the ridge and dropped into the gully which, if he didn't have the ring of water-walking, would have sunk him up to his neck in loose snow. As it was, Kimball wasn't surprised when the wolf attacked. Shot it three times at point blank for 54 damage, one of them a critical (max normal.) The wolf attacked with breath weapon, Kimball made his save and thankfully Zinc had cast Endure Colds, so no damage. Then it's 4d4 bite wasn't so bad. Next round Kimball took three more shots (20 more damge) and it charged off at 36". Basil took off after it in bird form, not having had a chance to change back yet, trying to get in front of it. Zinc crested the hill and fell neck-deep into the gully. Kimball fired three shots from long range, hitting once, doing minor damage. The creature continued to run. Basil got in front of it, Zinc floundered in the snow, Kimball charged at 24". As Basil changed back, Kimball's final arrows at extreme long range took down the white wolf Summer-Eater. The Horselord Zinc assisted in dragging the corpse back, the people of Kerava were loathe to open the gates -- after Siri's betrayal fearful of some trick of Her Dark Majesty. The Horn of Bravery cured them of that and we hauled Summer-Eater before Ingvar. He was pleased, Kimball's exploits will be immortalized in song should Viggo ever return. Since there were 6 days left of training, Basil, Kimball and Ratatosk went to The Court of Birch and Fir by way of the Jarlgarden Faery Road. We were waylaid by the elves as expected and they brought us to the Elven court. Kimball gave them the heads of the bad guys, the teeth of the wolf and the Marten Jarl's torc... They have rescinded the ban on humans in the Volkwood, offered a luke-warm guest welcome to our southern elves and even better, the Faery Lord who hangs out there is lending us two Buckawn warriors to guide us to Black Tow(e)n and beyond. (to find Cullen) We got back a sled, Gregors' head (along with 11 others) and the magical scaffolding for the Terra-Cotta Army. These have been placed in the sacred cave of the ancestors in Three-Horn Mountain. Everyone will rendez-vous in the Jarlsgarden after Kazan is finished training -- then on to Black Tow(e)n!

We realized that we forgot to cast Speak With Dead on the heads that we gave back, but the druid head was still here. The only useful information we learned was that he was fighting us because we slaughtered women and children throughout the town of Skalkagard. The best case scenario is that they spread rumors that we killed women and children, worst case that Hengir actually slew a bunch of women and children and blamed us.

Impressive. And good use of the free time. You didn't want to take care of Hallakire while you were out? It can't have many more hit points than Summer Eater (80?).
Any use of divination while you had the time?
Did we get a chance to ask the elves about the Sea-People?
What sort of supplies are we going to need? Mountain climbing gear? Better furs? Any more royal mead?
Was their a final disposition of the magic arms and armor? I would like both magic spears just in case. I think we should loan the rest to Yngvar but tell him we will need them when (if) we start the Horse clan. When Zinc founds his temple or Kimball gets his ranger followers the surplus items will be handy.

When Zinc founds his temple or Kimball gets his ranger followers the surplus items will be handy. 1) Zinc's slow movement rate wouldn't allow us to make it to Finstrom, kill Hallakire and haul her vast treasure hoard back to Kerava in time. 2) No creative uses of Divination. Zinc was busy ministering to the cleric-less people of Kerava. 3) Supplies are limited in Kerava. You are like our provisioner-general, so I figure Kazan was loaded up on iron spikes, pitons, ropes, grappling hooks, etc. They did scrape up 4 holy waters (TOTAL) and 2 royal meads (PER character). 4) Not sure if we're getting Greggers cousin Yeggers or anymore red shirts, but we decided to hold onto the magic weapons/armor/shields. Kimball traded the +1 silver-shod shield for Hemming's shield +?? and took the magic hand-axe since nobody is going to use it. I think we slapped both magic spears on Kazan's character sheet. We still have a ton of magic armor and shields. Magic morningstar, broadsword, etc. unidentified. Basil is wearing Hemming's +2 chainmail, Morvan has his elven chainmail and the ring of protection +1.

Zinc still has several days in Kerava while Morvan and Kazan finish up. I can do 2 or 3 Divinations. I'll take suggestions, if you have them. I'll also make some glowing stones.
I think we were going to get a redshirt, but he would only be a guide to Dark Towen and not fight with us.
I'll make arrangements for Kazan to pick up climbing gear and provisions and stuff, since I can't carry any more encumbrance.
I'd rather not loan stuff out, since we're not likely to get it back. I think we could give back the silver shod shield, since it's a quasi gift from the clans.

Do we have anyway to know what sort of forces we will face in Black Towen? I assume this is run by a lieutenant of Her Dark Majesty and not herself. I know we are supposed to destroy everything and retrieve the horn but is there any additional intelligence on the place? Are we talking undead, Black Watch, beast men, devils, all the above? When Her Dark Majesty last threatened the Land of Song what were her forces composed of? Is Black Towen supposed to be filled with her followers or more of an outpost that has a few key retainers and support staff?
On the supply front, how is Kimball on silver arrows?

And I'll bet that's where HENGIR! went. On the supply front, how is Kimball on silver arrows? 40 regular arrows 56 silver arrows I could carry 50 more arrows before I'm encumbered. Speaking of encumberance, I don't know how feasible it will be to haul all the junk we have collected up the Trevara Peaks. We've got an extra set of platemail, a bunch of chainmail, shields, weapons, etc. I'm expecting we'll be dragging a lot of treasure out of Black Towen. I've already stashed the heavy Terra-Cotta army scaffolding and the sled returned from the elves in the sacred cave of the ancestors next to the Valley of the Undead Jarls. Should we put more stuff in there? Or leave it in Kerava?

Is there anything other than arms and armor left to identify? I guess there are some potions to test.
We should get metal or bone scroll tubes for our scrolls. Also I would say we minimize how many spell books we bring with us. There is a lot of overlap.

I have a bone tube and a leather tube, both empty. I believe you can fit multiple scrolls per tube. Someone should learn comprehend languages so we can translate our untranslatable cleric scroll. I'd like to identify the shields, and maybe the plate. If Hemming's shield is +2, which it likely is, I want it. The plate is almost certainly +1, but you can't be sure.

4) Not sure if we're getting Greggers cousin Yeggers or anymore red shirts, but we decided to hold onto the magic weapons/armor/shields. Jesper. He's the remaining thane from Yngvar's guard. He knows the ways to Black Towen.

Speaking of scrolls: that scroll of Protection From Magic sounds like it would be awesome for a bow specialist. I'd like to identify the shields, and maybe the plate. If Hemming's shield is +2, which it likely is, I want it. The plate is almost certainly +1, but you can't be sure. As a spellcaster wouldn't you want to keep the +1/+4 vs missiles? If you take Hemming's shield I'll take the missile defender.
