Lee and I talked at length on the train home, but we discussed ways to extract the mythril slab from the temple. The immediate situation to resolve didn't come up.

If you pop Jasper back up, he can outrun the boat, since he moves at a 21 and it goes at 15. Raven could drink his potion of polymorph and turn into a bird and chase after it. If a hippogriff is fast enough, he can carry someone along for the ride.
Will a stinking cloud stay on a boat or raft? Or will the clould be left behind as the boat moves?

Jasper could carry the half-size Pfiffwin who could then fly over to the boat once we were far enough past. Assuming the river is 200' wide and Pfiffwin flies at 45' it will take him 5 rounds to reach the boat from the shore. Since the river is flowing at 150' we would need to be 750' past the boat before he started flying. With Jasper running 60' faster than the boat it would take him 13 rounds to get that far in front of the boat once he caught up to it. However it is already at least 300' away. Which would require another 5 rounds to make up. I am pretty sure Alter Self won't last that long.
I think Raven should use the potion or give it to Al or Dell.

So the general question is: What can we do to people to make them move faster than 15? Jasper moves naturally at 21, so he's fine. We can polymorph someone who can turn into a hawk and fly at 32, so that person is fine. Are there any flying creatures that could carry someone and move faster than 15? I think that's the speed of a hippogriff. Conceivably, Raven can swim at 21 with his ring, but I don't think getting into the water is a good idea.
What spells do we have ready? I'd give the potion to Pfiffwin or Dell if they have something good lined up.

"Pegasi are greatly valued for their speed, which makes them virtually the fastest things in the air."

I think hippogriffs fly at 36" and griffins fly at the 30". Griffins are bigger so can carry more. Either form should be able to carry Dell and Pfiffwin. We have Al polymorph while Adrienne and Perrin heal Dell and Al. Al flies Dell and Pfiffwin to the boat and raft. Al turns back and gets d12 healing. Dell gathers stuff from raft while Al and Pfiffwin direct boat back to shore. Dell can fly to shore with stuff and we can reload the boat.
Pfiffwin has several Phantasmal Forces and Fear. Not sure how effective either would be in the water. Actually since sound is less important in underwater so maybe the illusions might work better. I will have to think about it.

Would the current add to Raven's swimming speed? If that were the case, he could catch up with the boat in a couple of rounds.
Dell is willing to fireball the boat, but that seems to defeat the purpose. He also has Fear lined up - would that make them jump off the boat, do you think?

"Pegasi are greatly valued for their speed, which makes them virtually the fastest things in the air." I don't think we have seen a pegasus so polymorphing into one is impossible. But I think they fly at 48".

I don't think illusions can work underwater. Since vision is so poor down there, you rely much more on hearing things, smelling things and feeling the pressure of the water when something's swimming at you.

How about an illusion of an Entangle spell cast of seaweed? Or a school of piranha. I don't think either of these would require a sound component to be effective.

Or Pfiffwin could work with Dell to drop a wall of ice of them - Dell goes through the motions and Pfiffwin provides the illusion. They have already seen him to do one.

Who's in favor of my releasing the evil beast? Adrienne's circle of protection will last 70 rounds, so you could drop the beast in the boat. How do we think the beast works? Like the snake? Fido? The Lion? For the new guys, our trusty fighting magical weapons/animals were a lion statue and a snake staff. The lion would roll up 5+3 HD each use and lasted for an hour. It could be used once per day and would turn back to a statue when killed. The snake could be used at will, but had permanent HP.

Or Pfiffwin could work with Dell to drop a wall of ice of them - Dell goes through the motions and Pfiffwin provides the illusion. They have already seen him to do one. If he were close enough could Pfiffwin create a convincing image of the boat maybe starting to sink? That might get them headed to shore. Are they moving at a 15 because they are rowing the boat downstream? If they lost control would they slow down? I can attempt to hold some of them and/or confuse them when in range but I'd rather not let on that I'm invisibly following them until I can actually catch up to them.

I think Pfiffwin could make the illusion of the boat springing a hole and filling with water. You might need to add a big arrow or magic missle to the illusion to explain the sudden appearance of the hole. Of course he would have to get into range first. They are probably already heading for one shore or the other to get away with their loot.

How do we think the beast works? Like the snake? Fido? The Lion? Dell's guess is that it works like the Cacodemon spell's Trap the Soul option. That is to say, I say the name and a demon comes out that has to perform one (carefully worded) task. After that, the demon is free to wreak havok on the Prime Material plane. Admittedly, Dell is something of a pessimist.

I vote against releasing the beast. We certainly don't need it right now. If we are going to summon anything it should be Al's beserkers.

Save the Beast for Karmuk's tower.
What about our plan for the mithril slab? Winthrop's Tenser Disk can probably carry it except that is is only 3 feet across. If it reduced it could be balanced on the disk with minders. I expect that it woun't fit in my chest unless we can split it in two.

The boat travels at that speed due to current. It'll go faster when they start poling/rowing.
Anyone remember how many spellbooks Winthrop and Dell bought, and of which types?

So maybe we can't afford to lose all our current spellbooks.
Who's riding the stone horse?
Who's turning into a flying thing (and carrying someone else??)
Jasper can run, Raven can.. swim.. I'm sure the water's safe now.
Fear spells at the ready, Great Evil Beast on stand-by, etc.
C'mon team!
