Nordel's THAC0 is comment is confusingly written, which I think explains why it always takes an extra minute to calculate. If I recall correctly, he got a +1 bonus to firing at medium range after training with the elves. That means that instead of the normal -2 medium range penalty, he's only -1. So his current long bow THAC0s should be 15 unmodified, 12 PB, 13 short, 15 medium, and 19 long. Assuming he gets 17 DEX upon leveling up, his new THAC0s will be 14 unmodified, 10 PB, 11 short, 13 medium, and 17 long. If I get around to it and there's room I'll put the fancy THAC0 chart like Trommer has on everyone's sheet. If we haven't done so, we will collect the bookshelf of books as well. Some reading material on the ship might be nice for the long trip south. We will put as much of this stuff that fits in the q-box until we can transport it to the ship. OK. I guess I should note those duplicate volumes seem to be magical and duplicates of each other... Does the White Tower wish to claim any of this stuff? Nope. You get the impression Holomir is tired. Very, very tired. He's over 400 years old and he's been guarding the door to the White Tower for 330 years give or take. All the clerics of the Tower are dead or insane (Harringdon, Verus Vorum), all his brother & sister paladins are ghosts... he wants to exact justice on the Dark Tower and end this curse (or go out in a blaze of glory trying) and relinquish the White Tower to this clan of gentle gnomes so they can live in peace evermore... No signs of the goods from the caravan, right? We'll ask Tirian about where they might be. Lower Temple of Set. Behind Haffrung's apartments. Also ask him about the phase door. Where does that lead? Does only Haffrung use it? It's sort of confusing. It leads to another "phase door," which leads to a room with multiple access points: a set of stairs down to a very cold room, a ladder up to the second floor and another "phase door" which somehow connects to yet another room with stairs up to the second floor... Tirian and the other figthers were warned not to use the "phase door" without the wizard present and it's easier to go up the stairs in the wizard's apartments anyway. It's not that the spell expires on the death of the caster, so much as that the death of the subject creature invalidates the spell. Dan could cast PfE 10' on someone else and it would remain after he died. If he cast it on himself and died, the PfE 10' radius would dissipate as the effect won't hold on an object. Wouldn't this imply that the magical effect of the sword of wounding would expire at the death of Friedrich? Negatory. Friedrich is suffering from a permanent status effect like cursed, blind, poisoned, diseased, level drained, etc. In this case "wounded". If I had cast Cause Blindness on him, it would be the same story. Now if this was some necromancy spell that affected a creature and prevented magical healing for X turns/level, then yes, it would go away on his death despite the duration. We'll leave some stuff on Trommer's body in case he is taken. We will give him Dan's +1 shield instead of the one of a kind anti-magic shield. I'll review more later. OK.

Is the lion's name the command word? Can he tell us the other name, in case we come across it while adventuring down here? Yes. Her name is Hero, of course. How many units can I get per hour? If Colby commits d6+1 hours he will have a X% chance (per unit) to acquire 8 units (1 per age category). The art of dressing a slain dragon is similar to that of dressing a hart, save that the creature is so very much bigger. If you can hang the creature, by its hind legs, do so. If this is impossible, lay it on its back.
Once the creature has been bled and gutted, you may proceed with other matters.
The hide of the dragon can be of considerable value to armorers. The smallest piece that can be utilized is three feet on a side. This piece must be free of puncture and slash wounds, and must not be burned or otherwise weakened. Damage grievous enough to slay a dragon will often make its entire hide unusable.I'm looking to make backpacks and sacks that I can put especially valuable things in inside of a backpack. You can attempt to make dragonhide backpacks, shields, armor, sacks, spellbooks, etc. Stacking containers like that isn't going to happen however, unless it's for VERY small objects. Will Dariel help one of us teleport up to the ship and back? Will the lammasu help us Dimension Door into the White Tower so we can get to the ship and back down here? If it's for the purposes of ferrying loot, that's either do-it-yourself or after the Dark Tower has fallen. At this point Holomir is willing to open the White Tower and loan the party the contingent of gnomes to haul things inside. Getting up the 40' shaft from dungeon level 1 into the shrine in the village will be more tricky. Can we use dimension door or teleportation to bring Furio down here? Dimension Door is 5000GP weight max. Dariel is 7HD and can Teleport without Error. Assuming minimum level to Teleport without Error, his max weight is 850lbs. (setting a precedent for all at-will Teleport without Error, 14HD or under) A storm giant weighs a lot more than that from a cursory Google search. Identify scrolls still take a day for casting and recovery, correct? Creating the scroll, yes. Casting from the scroll, no. Haidar has a lot fewer to memorize, so him, I guess. This will depend on how long we decide to rest. The player of Haidar will need to volunteer his time. Are there any high INT gnomes we can get to pitch in after they're done preparing for battle. No. None of them have stats at this time.

So it sounds like Dariel, Holomir and Paavo are pushing for charging ahead without taking time to sleep. Colby is pretty good on spells, so I'm fine with that. If we do this, we should use the rod on Trommer and use the raise dead scroll on Friedrich.
I thought that creating Identify scrolls was useless, because you were still out of commission after casting. Since the downtime instead happens when writing them, we should make a lot more. With these 4 Identify scrolls, we can ID 4 items. I vote for the adamantine ring, Merth's ring, the gauntlets, and the gold vestments.

Does Tirian know where the druid or any other prisioners are being held?
The party should look at Trommer's sheet and decide what they want to remove/replace before he is brought back. Do you want to resolve the resurrection on the board? I'm fine with doing this way. I'll need those stats I rolled the last time I died if Arwan shows up. Does Mitra have any holy artifacts that can remove the curse?

Does Tirian know where the druid or any other prisioners are being held? Asked and answered! Do you want to resolve the resurrection on the board? Not especially. I'd like to have a grand moment at the start of the session where everybody rolls percentile dice in front of me. I'll need those stats I rolled the last time I died if Arwan shows up. Either a brand new 1st level character or an already-leveled character the Death God trades for Trommer. Does Mitra have any holy artifacts that can remove the curse? No. A very high level cleric with the Eye of Mitra, the Ring of Mitra, the Girding of Mitra and the Heart of Law might have a chance.

So it sounds like Dariel, Holomir and Paavo are pushing for charging ahead without taking time to sleep. Clarification: None of the NPCs are pushing for charging recklessly ahead without taking time to sleep. All of them have accepted Option B, resting 8-16 hours, as extremely reasonable. Waiting 24-48 hours is a different story.

I believe Haidar has two or three magic missiles left, and the wand of paralyzation which doesn't require sleep, and max HP. But I believe we have just burned all the party's clerical spells for healing, and it seems really unwise to charge ahead without any healing spells. So I am still voting for Option B.

Fin agrees with option B. Charging ahead without thought to tactics or proper preparation may have worked in the past but this is the Dark Tower, not a buncha scrub orcs. As for the argument that the Tower's denizens will be "that much more prepared," it seems they have had 330 years to prepare. Another 16 hours won't matter much to them, but it will give us (as Haidar correctly points out) all our cleric spells back, all our MU spells back, and will get the 4 items Colby proposed identified.
Unless anyone objects, Fin will keep Leandar the Lion. He thinks having it pop up behind the nasties when they least expect it may come in very handy.
He'd also be interested in getting the Periapt of Health and Scorpion Pin (Proof against poison) from Trommer. Those would be quite helpful in handling traps and such.

I'm ok with Fin using the Wondrous Lion Figurine for the time being. Regarding the Scorpion Pin, for the most part I always just say "I'm going to borrow the pin for a sec while I check for traps" and then if disaster strikes, you can get the bonus. This lets Trommer still use it for Stinking Cloud protection and such.

As an aside, someone should really take the sword of wounding. This totally appears to be the way to permanently kill someone. If Frederick had taken sword of wounding damage to -10, he would be unresurrectable since when resurrected, he would still be dead and unable to heal naturally. Note that this makes the sword of wounding more powerful than disintegration, since resurrection has no upper bound on death duration and works off of literal dust.
So, to kill your evil magic user dead dead dead, once you've killed him the first time, raise him from the dead to 1 HP and then strike him with the sword of wounding until he's taken sufficient damage to die.

There is another option. Go after Haffrung now, then rest for 8-16 hours, then hit the Dark Tower.
I agree with using those Identify scrolls now. I would say both rings, gauntlets and staff.
Dan is happy to wear the vestments when he tries to raise Friedrich. Did we decide not to send him to Fizzi with Dariel?
Holomir mentioned those four holy items might remove the curse. Does he know where heart of law is? Are there any additional benefits from using them together. Should we find them before assaulting the Dark Tower?

This totally appears to be the way to permanently kill someone. If Frederick had taken sword of wounding damage to -10, he would be unresurrectable since when resurrected, he would still be dead and unable to heal naturally. I agree in principle but the sword of wounding would have needed to do 116/106HP to Friedrich to be permanently fatal. Otherwise he could be raised from the dead at at -1 to -9 and then naturally heal for days until he reaches 1HP and death's door. Also Friedrich had already sustained 50 regular damage which could be healed normally. So unless I brought him to -50, he still had a good portion of hit points to recover by magical healing. Occurs to me bind wound treatments could heal 1d3 of wounding once. And that "Dutch Courage" houserule would be interesting. resurrection has no upper bound on death duration and works off of literal dust. I had this impression as well, but I cannot find anything in the text to support it. To the contrary in fact-- PHB: The cleric employing this spell is able to restore life and complete strength to the person he/she bestows the resurrection upon. The person can have been dead up to 10 years cumulative per level of the cleric casting the spell, i.e. a 19th level cleric can resurrect the bones of a person dead up to 190 years. See raise dead for limitations on that persons can be raised. The reverse, destruction, causes the victim of the spell to be instantly dead and turned to dust. Destruction requires a touch, either in combat or otherwise. The material components of the spell are the cleric's religious symbol and holy/unholy water. Employment of this spell makes it impossible for the cleric to cast further spells or engage in combat until he or she has had one day of bed rest for each level of experience of the person brought back to life or destroyed. DMG: Death - This occurs when a creature’s hit points reach 0 (or optionally, -10). Most dead characters can be resurrected, although destruction of the body (among other factors) will prevent this.

Holomir mentioned those four holy items might remove the curse. Does he know where heart of law is? Are there any additional benefits from using them together. Should we find them before assaulting the Dark Tower? He mentioned them because those are the only Mitraic artifacts he is aware of and he knows they are more powerful together, but that's about it. Powerful enough to qualify as a full fledged "Artifact" that a high level cleric could then perform an Exorcism with? Maybe. But all those items were lost years ago. It's a miracle of Mitra that you've recovered two of the relics.

What does the team think of using the Crown of Kings to track this down? It would give the Dark Tower more time to prepare, but we would be getting some powerful relics.

I thought sending Friedrich to Fizzi wasn't in the cards when we were planning to go right away, but I think if we have a delay, sending Friedrich and Mary to Fizzi makes sense. Will Dariel do that? He could then pick up Mary after a set amount of time, or she could teleport them back herself. Are the vestments something you can wear over armor or are they an armor replacement? Either way, Colby will use the scrolls to identify the adamantine ring, Merth's ring, and the gauntlets. We'll figure out how to use the last one once we've seen what those three things do and whether they need more identification.

DM NOTE: According to the description of the Lions of Mitra, Mary doesn't get Protection from Evil unless Hortencia is actually present. "Protection from evil upon person and bearer of relic while the Lion is in physical form (normally up to 20 turns duration)." The ring and the belt still provide PFE on their own. Infidelbane mentioned the other three. Has he heard of the Heart of Law? Of course, who hasn't heard of the Heart of Law? Only a godless infidel, that's who.... Does Holomir know anything else he could tell us? Is it lawful and good or just lawful? Is it possible that the Lawful Evil followers of Set are using it? Can Holomir tell us anything about the ring and girdle that we don't already know? The Heart of Law represents everything Lawful and Good. It is not possible that the followers of Set are using it. When worn in combination, Mitraic relics become more powerful... Dariel can teleport him there. How long before he is actually raised from the dead is another question. Either way, Colby will use the scrolls to identify the adamantine ring, Merth's ring, and the gauntlets. We'll figure out how to use the last one once we've seen what those three things do and whether they need more identification. adamantine ring set w/ gems: powerful (+4) protection vs. attacks (AC). moderate (+2) protection vs. everything else (saving throws) Merth's ring: The "Ring of Speed" -- Haste (as spell) every turn (duration: 1 turn) while wearing the ring. (MORE)Mellon 1/2-Elven's gauntlets: enchanted to increase dexterity

Fin is ok with the use of the Scorpion Pin as noted by Colby. If/when Trommer comes back, he will ensure he gets the Periapt of Health as well.
He's going to hang onto the adamantine ring. And he means it. The party will have to kill him to get it. His position: he constantly risks his skin out front and on his own for the betterment of the entire party, while other, more powerful fighters and others hang back. Fin intends to continue to be an out-front guy, and this ring makes it far more survivable -- and him more effective -- than before.
He offers up the ring of +1 protection (on his character sheet) to whomever needs it.
Agree the gauntlets should go to Nordel.
Again, he reiterates he is for waiting for option B. We have no idea what other tricks Haffrung has up his sleeve and he's at least as powerful as Colby and Fin combined. And we still have a Dark Tower full of assorted, vicious nasty types to contend with.

Fin was of course referring neither to Friedrich nor Trommer.
He's also not particularly afraid of death, being near immortal as it is. In a way, death would be a release from a long, often tedious life, he reasons.
So are we as a party agreed to wait at least 16 hours before a-charging in? If so, can Holomir or someone else tell us what to expect on the other side of the fanged gates? Is it worth Fin going invisible and having a quiet look 'round before we do a Three Stooges -- style entrance?

When worn in combination, Mitraic relics become more powerful... Will Nordel allow Dan to try on the Belt of Mitra so we can see what happens when it is combined with the ring? Unless Holomir or Infidelbane already know what happens. I say teleport Friedrich to Fizzi. I am sure Mary and Dariel can explain it is a rush job. No need to use our only Raise Dead scroll. In fact if Fizzi wants to dust off some of those adventuring skills, he would be more than welcome to join the assault. Dan will try on the vestments. Before doing so he will ask if there is a place in the White Tower he can clean himself up. He would hate to sully these holy clothes. Maybe the gnomes can help. Does Holomir have any additional items or information which might aid in the assault? Youssef would like Fin's +1 ring of protection. Can we get Merth's armor identified? Paavo is considering using that instead of the damage reduction chain. The chain is cool, but he would get hit a lot less often with better armor. Also it would help with some saves. I am guessing the upcoming fight will be more spells and less hand-to-hand combat. Does Infidelbane carry a Holy Avenger? If not is he interested in borrowing the +4 scimitar? I don't think anyone is currently using it. What armor does he use? Can you do Spell Immunity to Glyph of Warding? Do you need to choose a specific type of glyph or does it work for all glyphs? How about against Fire Shield? Do you need to choose the type? Dan could give each of the fighters (Trommer, Friedrich and Paavo) immunity to one spell. That would be all of his 4th level spells but it provide the edge we need. At least one of them would be up hopefully after a frontal assault. There is a lich we think, right? I would probably do fireball, lightning bolt and cone of cold. Slow might also be good.

Great idea on sending Friedrich to Fizzi. Would be great if he'd join us as well.
Another great idea on getting each fighter immune to a spell.
