Nope, I'll blow the Horn of Goodness, which I wisely saved until our fight against an elemental which is unable to attack anyone within a circle of protection. If a party member is surrounded by incorporeal, potentially level-draining undead again and you don't blow that horn, Rensslaer will take it off your corpse. And for the record, he is not a team player so that tactic won't be working anymore. Team player = LAWFUL GOOD Follows orders = LAWFUL NEUTRAL

Rensslaer has 65,316 XP. Morvan makes 6th level cleric. Kazan makes 8th level magic user. You're only 1 week away from getting 7th back. 2 at most. Stop whining! (that's an order :)) For the record, can we get a ruling on how much XP Zinc lost when he was drained by the vampire vs. how much Rennslaer just lost? I think it's 55K vs. 35K. And Zinc lost 8 HP when he was drained, the MAX.

Yes, sir!
We're going to need to pull like 25k worth of treasure out of this tomb in order to make up that level the next session, so:
Before we go up to the next level let's go search that undead bridge room for loot and try to snag the miscellaneous objects "falling" in those shafts. I swear I remember hearing there was a guy in a suit of platemail, a crystal ball and something else.

There is definitely a crystal ball and a suit of plate falling in the shafts. We could web them and someone could be flying and try to hack them free as they fall.

There was also a body wrapped in a shroud that dropped down the shaft.

Current XP Totals Morvan 56,468 Zinc 154,562 Basil 214,875 Kazan 95,563 Rensslaer 65,316 Alfred 46,436
XP losses Morvan has been level drained for 49,500 XP Zinc has been level drained for 55,000 XP Basil has been level drained for 1,250 XP Kazan lost 33,520 XP from reading the book Rensslaer has been level drained for 35,000 XP
Since Morvan gains XP at 1/4th normal, he has lost by far the most experience in practical terms, though Zinc currently holds the record in gross points.

Rensslaer has 65,316 XP. Morvan makes 6th level cleric. Kazan makes 8th level magic user. Kazan has 4 aliquots of spell ink and will have an extra spell slot. I am trying to decide between - Confusion,
- Fire Shield,
- Magic Mirror,
- Wall of Fire, and
- Wall of Ice.
Confusion is good against a large group as they may end up fighting themselves. Fire Shield only last 1 round/level and Kazan can usually kill anything in melee range pretty quickly. Magic Mirror would be useful if we had some enemies we wanted to track or someone we needed to find. Could be useful tracking down the wizards three or Shadalah. Wall of Fire is great against walking undead, e.g. the Malatath. Not so good against Efreeti. Wall of Ice can be turned into an Ice Storm for an automatic 3d10 damage with an increasing area of effect with level. We would rarely use it as a wall but maybe as a bridge. I am leaning toward Magic Mirror or Wall of Fire. Opinions?

Given that there's a crystal ball falling through these chutes we might be able to grab, Magic Mirror seems less helpful. But we won't have to decide until we sleep, which probably won't happen for a while. I know you're psyched about 4th level spells, but is there a lower level one we want?

The crystal ball is not necessarily magical. Even if it is magical, given how many cursed items were in the temple of Set, I am dubious of anything we find in here.
In terms of lower level spells, Vocalize would have been useful for sneaking around the warehouse. Strength would be a good spell for Alfred. Wizard Lock would come in handy when we are resting or fleeing. Getting Identify back would also be good. Invisibility 10' Radius would be useful for the group. Maybe we can barter with the wizards three if we ever catch up to them.

If by "barter" with them you mean we'll kill them and take the spellbooks from their corpses, then yes, we'll barter.
If memory serves, Morvan never got 6th level MU, so he can still discover a new spell in the not too distant future. I think Identify is the only one on that list we'd really want.

I'm dubious of anything we find in here as well, that doesn't mean we should leave it behind on the off chance it's cursed!!
We definitely need Identify back.
Magic Mirror is an Unearthed Arcana and I thought ineligible for spell research?
Don't underestimate the power of WIZARD EYE.
For real though, Morvan can't use fire spells so I'd say Wall of Ice over Wall of Fire.

I never said we should leave anything behind. I would still prefer to move forward rather than spend time fishing items out of the shafts. Once we have Shadalah we can spend time exploring the shafts and the pit. We will need a Fly spell to get out of the Crypt. We can also use that to get items out of the shafts as well.
Only named spells cannot be researched.
At this pace Morvan will need a couple of years to reach 7th level. When he does he can research a spell appropriate for his needs.
We did find a magic user scroll which will hopefully have something interesting on it.

Regarding Morvan and his rate of advancement I have a question and this may be one that only Dana can answer.
First off, let me post a couple of beliefs which I think are more or less accurate but may not be.
I would assume that each of the 6 party members get roughly 1/6th of the total XP earned .(Alfred, Rensslaer!, Kazan, Basil, Zinc and Morvan).
I also understand that Morvan is only advancing at 1/4th the normal rate.
If this is the case, what happens to the other 3/4 of his 1/6th share?
Is it, in effect, lost?
or does he actually only get 1/24th of the XP pie?
and thus the other 23/24ths left is then actually split 5 ways.
This would mean that each PC(alfred, Rensslaer!, Zinc, Kazan and Basil) actually get 23/(24 x 5) of the total XP pie.
I may sound like I am quibbling here but, hey, XP is what it's all about, right!!! and 3/24ths is over 12% of the party xp. The main question I am raising here is, are we, as a party losing 3/4 of Morvan's 1/6 share? I think that is something that all of us have a vested interest in here.
I know that you(Dana) and I talked about this last Sunday and this question popped into my head afterward.
Thanks

There's a set XP for the week and the character of each player present gets an even cut. Morvan gets a percentage of what each character gets, so he's in effect getting extra, unearned XP, not getting stuff that we would otherwise get. So if we dumped him or he died the XP totals wouldn't change at all. So all's well!

As Zinc says, the total XP is divided by the number of PCs present. NPCs get half of that amount. PCs whose players aren't present get 1/4th that amount.
To make it more concrete, assume the party gets 1000 XP for the week and five players and an NPC hireling are in the party. Each PC gets 200 XP, the NPC gets 100 XP.
The next week, one player doesn't show up, so I run the character. Again, the party gets 1000 XP that week. Each PC gets 250 XP, the NPC gets 125 XP, the PC who didn't show up gets 63 XP.
The third week, all five players show up and the NPC hireling dies. Again the party gets 1000 XP that week. Each PC gets 200 XP. The NPC is dead and gets 0 XP.

Basically, we do it that way to not incentivize us bringing NPC/hirelings along to help with the dungeon and then be willfully negligent so they die on the last fight and leave the XP for us.

Do henchmen work the same as hirelings for XP distribution or do they count as half PCs?

besides, once we beat the end boss/take the treasure, the whole dungeon is probably going to start shaking, then collapse The Efreeti is just squatting. The Crypt was built for Al Badr. So long as we don't desecrate the actual tomb we should be fine.

Do henchmen work the same as hirelings for XP distribution or do they count as half PCs? Henchmen get half-XP. In the old campaign, you got a henchman at 8th level, and a second at 10th level. Given that our individual characters are much more powerful than our old characters, I think we're going hench-less.

To be explicit. If the party gets 1000 xp and there are 4 characters and 2 henchman do the characters get 250 xp (=1000/4) or 200 xp (=1000/(4 + 2*(1/2)))? In either case the henchman get half of the character xp.

In either case the henchman get half of the character xp. Hahaha. I'll take a stab at this one!! Using your example I believe that each PC would get 250. The way I understand it is that the total XP for a session is divided by the number of PC's who's players are there that day. Calculation for all else such as NPC's, henchmen and PC's who's players didn't show up is a funtion of that. In your exaple each gets 250. 250 is base number by which everything else is determined. 125 for henchman. 62.5 for Morvan or Alfred(if I was not at Lee's that day.) Of course I could be wrong.

David - since you won't be there this weekend, anything you do or do not want Zinc to do? I want him to get a lot of treasure. I do not want him to die or get level drained. More specifically. When things seem to be building to a head in the dungeon, he'll do PfE 10' radius on himself. This will make him immune to the Efreet, initially. Then he'll blow the horn upon contact, giving everyone immunity. I have a Tongues spell memorized as well, to be turned into a Cure Serious Wounds for Kazan or Rennslaer. I think that's it. If folks have suggestions, post 'em and I'll accept or reject them.

Is it the same as PFE except that it has an area of effect that is a traveling radius on the caster and a much longer duration? Does this mean that Alfred will be protected if he is close enough to Zinc? I have a Tongues spell memorized as well, to be turned into a Cure Serious Wounds for Kazan or Rennslaer. So is Alfred still considered an asset on loan from Yngvar from a role playing perspective?
