Let's not get all caught up in the magic of Q1 and lose sight of our objectives. There's giants yet to be... gone against... And Drow Vaults to be... vaulted over.

If I remember correctly it was Raven and Jasper that failed their save against Pffiwin's first fireball test on the party. That part was funny.

We told Jasper to go watch the pretty shelter Antonus had made since he was having problems understanding the instructions about a fake fireball. Raven did fail.

Can you edit the Troll Den so that the pathway behind them doesn't look like it's unexplored and not a confirmed deadend? I APPRECIATE ALL THE GREAT WORK YOU DID ON THAT MAP.

That's a fine lookin' map. Keep pressing onward up and left? Rest here? It seems like most of our upper level cleric spells are still intact, so we might want to rest for 4 hours to regain 1st and second level spells.

First, we should see if the buzzing things are still outside, and kill them if they are. Then rest for 6 hours - 8 hours if anyone needs to level.

Assuming that it takes 3.75 hours to memorize 1st and 2nd level spells, we'll spend 8 hours in this room. That'll let non-casters level-up and casters sleep and memorize.

Was there any treasure from the half-man and his demon minions? Any magical longswords? Are we going to try using the words we learned from the troll for the ewer?

I would want to have a successful augury telling me that it's ok to drink it. Since Adrienne can do that each day without using a spell slot, why not?
The creature had a wand (Wand of Wonder, we think), a potion, and some other stuff. I don't believe we said we were checking the demons. We didn't detect magic. It's probably worth casting Detect Magic here in the Abyss and then again on the PMP. It's also probably worth doing since it would be good to know if our +0 gear still counts as magical. I presume it does since our armor is still non-encumbering.
The banners on the wall were from defeated units on our plane. Knights of the Watch, Sterich, Keoland, etc. Some we presumed were other mercenary bands we didn't recognize.

Since we're going to be resting, Dell will summon his Leomud's Chest to retrieve the ewer and Clift's "extraplanar" broadswords. Then Adrienne will use her detect magic on everything in the room. Then all the demon weapons go in the chest, because Dell is sad that his chest isn't as full as Winthrop's is.

If the demon weapons are more magical than our current weapons, then they'll go into our hands, and not into the chest.

I concur, that's why we're readying magical weapons and preparing powerful magic. Are you declaring that Antonus, Florin and Bobwin will have a tea party while everyone else is preparing?

Florin is always ready for merriment. It's comes with his elven heritage. I was just sayin, we're in the heart of evil... whatever you guys feel is best. Exactly how aware do we think the Demon Queen of Spiders is of the goings-on in her infernal demesne? She's like a lesser goddess and we just killed Mr. Lolthson.

We know that demons teleport, so it's possible that if they suspect something is wrong 1000 guys will fill the room and slaughter us. However, the room does have doors, so demons presumably do some walking around as well. The troll said that nobody has checked up on them in a while. Additionally, they used to go out foraging so it wouldn't necessarily raise an alarm if someone saw an empty troll room.
It's unlikely that someone would find the bodies we dumped over the side and know that those guys came from this level and not a different one.
If we listen carefully at the door and keep watch for teleporters we should be fine.

I was just throwing it out there. This seems like a perfect opportunity to use our new Alarm spell! For the 2-8 turns + 1 turn/level it lasts...

We rested in the room, it didn't go particularly well. Various Abyssal vermin kept breaking through the door. Spiders, scorpions, beetles, and flies. The flies had a weird sleeping power that caused people to fall comatose. Two of the flies killed Flewingham (or whatever his name is) in his sleep in one round. Winthrop was able to rest enough to regain spells with the aid of his magic ring, but no one else did. People also had a tendency to sink into the floor while sleeping, though none seriously enough to cause any problems. Hugh activated the stone horse to haul all of the loot. Jasper put the head of the spider creature on his halberd.
We pressed on past the door, turned a few corners, and found another door. Inside were 50+ gnolls, led by a minotaur. Things were dodgy for a few rounds, but we were victorious. Otto was fairly ineffective because he fumbled in his first round of combat. After 2 rounds of them not doing much damage to us, their minotaur leader told them to grapple, which was extremely successful. Adrienne, Otto, Hugh, Grizella, Antonus, Raven, Adler and Florin were grappled in one round. Otto by 4 of the 5 gnolls surrounding him.
While that was going on, Samantha threw her first fireball and incinerated 8 gnolls. Winthrop killed two of their leaders, their shaman, and several others with very potent ice storm. After that round of grappling, they started hitting again. Otto failed 2 bend bars checks to throw them off. His HP were down to the teens when he finally threw them off. Once he started taking them down two a round, he was back to full in no time.
Two sleep spells and a stinking cloud broke most of the grapples. Dell was cornered and saved himself with the Bone Statuette of Woe. He turned invisible and we found out that the souls in the floor scream when invisible people walk on them. Adrienne used her Bone Statuette of War, which she then rode.
At this point, the tide had turned decisively in our favor and we mopped up the bad guys. About 10 of the gnolls were taken prisoner. I propose we offer to release them in the PMP if they help us.

I say we interrogate them, and then release them... off the edge of the platform and into the Abyss. Didn't we get the minotaur leader as a prisoner too? I remember he was in the stinking cloud.

I forgot to mention that there are a few doors in the 100 by 100 room. We haven't checked them out. There are also a bunch of benches and hammocks which will make things easier if we decide to try resting here.

Also the extra-dimensional iems like the Leomunds' Chest, Dell's pouch and box don't work in the abyss. The stone horse is carrying Flewingham's body and the other stuff (armor, weapons, banners, etc). It was tought a bad idea to attempt a raise dead on Flewingham since there are so many extra souls around. Adrienne tried casting Detect Magic and was temporarily blinded since everything radiates magic. The book we found was a spell book. Winthrop saved against the Sepia Snake Sigil that was protecting it. It has mostly spells we already have. The new ones are I remember Haste, Push, and Affect Normal Fires.

Other events of some note: Adrienne tried to detect magic - apparently (and in retrospect, somewhat obviously) the twisted maze built of d**ned souls suspended in the mists of the Abyss was constructed by magic - powerful magic, that shone too brightly to allow her to see anything else. Also, Leomud's Chests and pouches of holding are inaccessible from this place, which is why we're carrying stuff on the horse.
Should we try and rest again, or patch up and keep going?
Edit: Or, what he said.

Oh, someone should mention that pouches of holding and stuff don't work in the Abyss. :) It's basically impossible to know what to do until we interrogate the gnolls. Basically, we force them all to drop their weapons and cower into a corner. Adrienne and the bone statuettes should have no problem keeping them terrorized and in line. Since she speaks gnoll, she'll take the lead in interrogating them. Otto and Grizzela will bar the webbed door with tables and stuff. We'll go through the pockets of the minotaurs and the flinds to see if they have notes or something. We want to know where they keep prisoners around here, what's behind these doors, and if anything has happened of note in the past few months. If they're like the trolls and are unhappy to be here, we can try to cut a deal if possible. There was also a giant statue that looked a lot like this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeenoghu.
