We can do better with wine than with beer. Not sure about the prices for ammonia, aqua regia, cyanide, etc. Let's just stick with wine. Assuming we can get 56-pint casks for 3gp and sell full casks for the wine value (14gp) plus half the cask value (1.5gp), then after subtracting 5sp for Maroud's wages, we should net 12.25gp per day, for the upfront investment of 3gp for the first cask. If the DM disagrees with any of those assumptions, then it's some other number.
If people are willing to take IOUs for their shares instead of cash and cash-equivalents like gems and jewelry, then we're good for a while, unless there are more people who are going to incur training costs. Bolo isn't taking any IOUs at this time, at least not without an attractive interest rate. If others also want actual loot rather than pieces of paper, and especially if there are more training costs coming, then at a minimum we're going to have to sell several of the extra magical items. And/or the valuable items of uncertain value, for which we will probably get a bad price if we rush it.
Bolo likes being comfy for a change after several months in the field. But he is already planning a visit to the Green Parrot (DM: please check your email) which costs 5gp per room per night rather than 17gp. He will report on its acceptability. Paavo found it "rather rundown" and full of "shady individuals". To Bolo, that sounds nice and homey. How do the rest of you feel?
OK, let's do that, if nobody objects overnight.

1750GP and 16 days to train Mary, if done by a party-member. Is this on top of the 1000gp for mage school tuition, or instead of it? If it's an additional cost, someone is going to need to agree to take Mary's IOU as their share of the loot, because the party's account can't cover it all.

If the DM disagrees with any of those assumptions, then it's some other number. The prices from the PHB are what these items cost to purchase from an inn/store. Assuming the above, the innkeeper makes no profit buying this cheap wine by the glass. Also he presumably already has a relationship with a wineseller whom he purchases wine from at wholesale rates. 7GP/day is more reasonable, minus the initial 3GP jug* upfront investment. That can include whatever Maroud is being paid. Of course Maroud struggles with the large heavy jug of wine, sloshing and nearly spilling its contents, clearly encumbered. He asks if he can use the party's cart and mule. *it makes no practical difference but wood is more scarce than clay in the desert and thus wine is transported in large two-handled jugs. Is this on top of the 1000gp for mage school tuition, or instead of it? If it's an additional cost, someone is going to need to agree to take Mary's IOU as their share of the loot, because the party's account can't cover it all. 1000GP is on top of whatever actual costs Mary will incur for training, for access to the campus. 1750GP additional if Finnious or Colby trains her- 3500GP if its a magi from the college. OK, let's do that, if nobody objects overnight. Are any of the five helms of the "great" variety? I would like to know what the two magical helms do. Trommer put on the heavy iron helm before without ill effect (that he knows of). I don't think we've ever differentiated types of helms in the past. It's assumed that anyone wearing armor is also wearing a matching style helm which contributes to the AC granted by the armor type. As far as encumbrance, these are counted as additional even when worn because there is still an extra helm floating around which was part of the encumbrance of the original armor. I guess one could throw away the non-magical helm and replace it with the magical helm, but then that armor set will be incomplete unless the magic helm accompanies it or a new helm of matching style is purchased. That's really complicated... 6 pearls are being used over 3 days to identify what items? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Gwynneg does not appear to communicate. It does however respond favorably to hearing its name and gentle soothing words.
Bear in mind, it can produce like 100+ gallons of SALT-WATER per day so sea water isn't especially harmful to it.
So we're on day 8. Figure out what's going to happen for days 9-17.

Finnious will spend a while working with Gwynneg to see if it does anything cooler than just be a walking alchemy jug, since the utility of that seems rather limited. Maybe that's why it was gathering dust in the basement of the Vernal House... When Finnious engages the cauldron it will: come when called, follow him around at 3", produce quantities of liquid as per the DMG. It seems to pick up on his disappointment and looks dejected. As dejected as a claw-footed cauldron possibly can.

About now I should ask (in a very serious DM voice) if you've really shown Maroud this magic cauldron that produces unlimited quantities of wine?
And explained its usage so that he can sell the wine for you?
It sounds to me like you may have, but I'd like to know for certain.

About now I should ask (in a very serious DM voice) if you've really shown Maroud this magic cauldron that produces unlimited quantities of wine? And explained its usage so that he can sell the wine for you? Certainly not. It only takes three and a half minutes to pour a full day's quota of wine into the jug, so we don't need Maroud's help with that. When he shows up for work each morning, the jug is already filled and ready to go. It sounds to me like you may have, but I'd like to know for certain. Thank you for the opportunity to, er, clarify this. You are a wise and benevolent DM as well as having a very serious voice.

Another accounting update. Henceforth I will cease mentioning the gems Bolo received as his share and the 100gp we gave to Xiles, as I assume these are on their character sheets by now. Since my last report: - The party's account has paid 120gp for 3 days room and board.
- We've made 18gp net on wine sales. Unless someone disagrees, I will credit this to the party's account, rather than distributing it in shares.
- Bolo has spent 8gp on obscenely overpriced arrows.
- We have used up all the pearls.
By my calculation, this leaves us as follows: - Unallocated: the valuable items of still-uncertain value, some nonmagical items (but not the weaponry we sold), and some magical items, all of which we have set aside to deal with later.
- Party: 1750.63gp in unconverted GJO, 31.75gp in local currency, Friedrich's IOU for 404.18gp (local), and Mary's IOU for 33.31gp (local).
- Friedrich and Mary: in debt to the party
- Paavo: 324.61gp in unconverted GJO
- Bolo: 7.58 gp in unconverted GJO
- Everyone else except Xiles: 583.36gp in unconverted GJO each
Will Farouk accept gems or jewelry at appraisal value for our 40gp/day lodging charge? It would be a good deal for him, as he would save the 20% purchasing markup. And it would be a good deal for us, as we would save the 20% selling discount. If not, at 40gp per day for lodging, and 7gp per day from wine sales, we appear to be 1 dinar and 5 centimes short of having enough cash to pay for tomorrow's room and board. So we will need to convert some more GJO into cash. Unless I hear otherwise, I will assume that we convert in 50gp increments as needed (netting 40gp each time).

I'd like Finnious to spend a few days with the Demonomicon, specifically crossreferencing for the named demons in our Beckon spell. Otherwise just generally looking for info that would be helpful if we encounter demons in combat. I write "I'd like" because I recall you suggesting that Finnious was made uncomfortable by reading the book, but I'm not sure.

I'd like Finnious to spend a few days with the Demonomicon, specifically crossreferencing for the named demons in our Beckon spell. Otherwise just generally looking for info that would be helpful if we encounter demons in combat. As you may recall, the Demonomicon is an incredibly dense, heavily annotated volume. It contains lurid descriptions of the lower planes and their myriad denizens and deep philsophical musings into the underpinnings of infernal existence. Much of it is written in an incomprehensible daemonic language. Some of the complex arcane diagrams & formulae look like those found in the wizard Feldspar's notes. Finnious struggles with the book initially, not making heads or tails of it... 5d6=25But after a day or so he starts to make some sense of it... 5d6=16And discovers several advanced spells beyond his comprehension which he believes have to do with the Binding, Banishment, Ensnarement, and Torment of infernal creatures. He also learns the specific weaknesses/resistances listed for demons in the Monster Manual. Finnious further peruses the tome, finding complex organizational charts of the hierarchies of Hell... 5d6=18And finds the name Garzul, apparently a devil in the service of Dispater. I write "I'd like" because I recall you suggesting that Finnious was made uncomfortable by reading the book, but I'm not sure. Not that there is really anyone around to notice it, but Finnious becomes increasingly withdrawn after studying the book.

For 13 days Friedrich will eat, breathe and sleep the 2/1 attack routine. For 4 days after that Friedrich will read the book. That puts Friedrich on Day 18 before he can perform any other actions. Give the DMG a close read. Note that it takes a few days to read the book and learn the exercises. You have to then spend 30 days of uninterrupted exercise to get the bonus, which must be started withing three months of reading the book. We certainly won't be doing that while paying all this money for room and board. Do the magic users in Mary's wizard school reside in the school?

What's Xiles up to while we're hanging out? He adapts well, buying local clothes, visiting the Bazaar and Fighting Pits. He spends a lot of the day sitting at the bar at the Inn of the Seven Silks, drinking complimentary tea, staring out the window. In the evenings, when its cooler, he goes for long walks through the city with a sketchbook and a piece of charcoal. He plans to eventually return to Achea and will probably join up with a caravan to the coast to catch a ship. Give the DMG a close read. Note that it takes a few days to read the book and learn the exercises. You have to then spend 30 days of uninterrupted exercise to get the bonus, which must be started withing three months of reading the book. Friedrich will need to complete an uninterrupted period of exercise as detailed in the book each day, for 30 days, to gain the additional point of strength. 4-6 hours a day seems fair. He can still go adventuring and perform other activities, but if there is ever a day where he is unable to perform the required exercises, the knowledge from the book will be forfeit. Do the magic users in Mary's wizard school reside in the school? No one offered her a place to stay, nor was it mentioned by the Dean of Admissions.

Finnious' 3 days with the Demonomicon will put the party at Day 11.
That's another three nights lodging for 120GP. Farouk will not take gems or jewelry, he's not an appraiser or pawnshop, and only accepts hard currency.
Finnious claims his share: 1 of the cut spinel gemstones (30GP), 9 of the topaz stones (50GP each) and the imperial garnet he was initially carrying (100GP) (total 580GP) and will allocate the remainder (3.36GP) to the party fund. Which, with the wine sale for the day, leaves just barely enough local currency to cover room & board for one day.
(...liquidating 2 pale green peridots (50GP each)... for the 80GP necessary, leaving the party 1650.63gp in unconverted GJO, *16 gold dinars, 2 silver centimes and 1 brass dirham... in addition to the IOUs from Friedrich and Mary, not counting the unclaimed shares, the non-magical items and those whose value cannot be ascertained.
(*counting 14GP from the wine sales for Days 10, 11)

The less time we spend in the session identifying items and doing administrative nonsense, the happier I'll be. If we squander the opportunity to resolve these issues on the board then the chances of the Sultan's men rounding up the party and confiscating all your unidentified magic items drastically increases.I mean we should really try to identify items, visit sages, train and such on the board. Accomplish as much as possible, etc.

I was hoping to do it on the board! I'm just hoping the board can jump forward to day 14 (or whenever people start trickling in from Entioch.) I assume the sage will function similarly to Benesarius and get a roll for every item we have. If he can identify things faster and cheaper, it makes sense to do it that way and save the pearls for other stuff.
While Bolo's adventures are interesting and hilarious, maybe he can take a break after recovering the chalice so we can fast forward the campaign?

Do we still have the four brass-bound chests that used to contain the Gazolba-bird cash? If so, we will sell them. Note to the DM: When liquidating GJO to get cash for lodging expenses, sage fees, etc., please select items with a high ratio of encumbrance to value. I imagine (perhaps incorrectly) that this will mean goblets, chalices, daggers, nuggets, and so on go first, and loose gems go last. But the specifics are at your discretion unless someone else wants to prioritize the list. (I don't.) If Bolo can work it in around his thieving activities in the other thread, he and Finnious (and Xiles if he wants to go) will visit the sage. When the Entioch expedition returns, we can make another visit if we want to. On this visit, we'll carry the following items with us in the quantum box: (a) the ivy ring, the dragon serving dish, and the jade circlet; (b) all the unidentified magic items; and (c) the floating toad bottles, the displacer beast pelts, and the mega-crossbow. The rest of the Barb-el-Shay segment of the party will remain at the inn to guard the rest of our stuff. We will ask about the following: - Valuation of the ivy ring, the dragon serving dish, and the jade circlet. Can the sage direct us to a collector of special items like these, who might be more interested in them than just a random jeweler in the city?
- Identification of the magic items. Can the sage direct us to a specialist dealer in magical items like these, in the event that we decide to sell some of them?
- Identification of the floating toad bottles. We believe these are nonmagical, but we don't know what the point of them is.
- What magical items could be made with the displacer beast pelts? What would be the likely cost of the various options, and who would we need to hire to do the work? If we instead just sold the pelts, can the sage direct us to a likely buyer, and what would we likely get for them?
- Is the mega-crossbow sufficiently unusual to be of potential interest to the sultan's army? Or is it already a known technology here in the metropolis?
- Any additional information about the Demonspore
- How to get back to Devonshire
- If Xiles comes, how he can get back to Achaea
If we can't get all this out of one 200gp consultation, then please give us just 200gp worth, along with an estimate of how many consultations the rest would take.
