Well, I take it this means the ultradaemon and his whirling wall of blades are no more? Good news, if so.

Well, I take it this means the ultradaemon and his whirling wall of blades are no more? Good news, if so. Sadly no. He disappeared on us, as did the nighthag. Perhaps he just teleported away, or perhaps something more sinister, e.g. he may currently be possessing Colby via a Magic Jar spell as suggested by Josh at the end of the "part 3" thread. I'm not sure I understand the Magic Jar spell description, but if I do, and if it is indeed true that the UD is possessing Colby via Magic Jar, then: (a) When the spell was cast, the UD had to be within spell range (15") of the magic jar receptacle, which is a large gem or crystal. (b) When Colby was possessed, he too had to be within range of the receptacle. (c) The UD can only reenter his own body if he's within range of the receptacle. (d) If the receptacle is destroyed while the UD is out of his own body, then that's curtains for the UD. If this is right, then it seems to me that a possible strategy would be to take Colby away to a distance comfortably more than 15", then return to where we fought the UD, to locate and destroy the receptacle. Does this make any sense?

At-will abilities of magical creatures do not require material components.

An exception being the periapt used by a night hag to astrally project their bodies. Or maybe this isn't an at-will ability.

Night hags have a bunch of weird powers, some described as spells, some as at-will and one requiring the use of a special periapt forged in Hades...
All this information and more is in your new Demonomicon.

How likely do you think it is that the throne contains the receptacle?
So should we should tie, gag, and blindfold Utradaemon Colby?

Hold on here. Colby hasn't done anything!! Are you really going to trust Paavo, who is literally INSANE?
But if you did believe Paavo, then toss Colby the soul gem Marcus is carrying and see what happens. Maybe we can trap the ultrodaemon?

Are we going to rest? Do we try and go outside and camp or hide inside the castle? Other than encumbrance there isn't a reason to go back to town since no one needs training. There are some secret doors we could hide behind.

Ah, it wasn't indicated on the experience summary.
Well then, we should just leave, get trained and go do something random.

At-will abilities of magical creatures do not require material components. Unless I am completely misunderstanding the Magic Jar spell description (which is always possible), it seems to me that the large gem or crystal is not just a material spell component, but an essential part of how the spell actually functions. It is the "magic jar". The spell caster transfers his or her life force to a special container (a large gem or crystal), and from this magic jar the life force can sense and attack any creature within the spell range radius ... Failure to possess a victim leaves the life force of the magic-user in the magic jar ... etc. But if you're saying that the magic jar ability of this ultrodaemon doesn't work that way, then that's fine.

If only you had a magical crown that showed you the true path to any person, place or thing. Argh. How did we not think of that? Paavo and Dan were considering doing this if you all died in the throne room. It has always been an option but there are negative consequences from using the crown. Not sure what they are but you have to make a savings throw each time it is used. Also it is not clear that the crown will provide a path that avoids traps or other perils. Regardless, in his current state Paavo shouldn't be leading the party anywhere. Someone else want to use it?

Regardless, in his current state Paavo shouldn't be leading the party anywhere. Someone else want to use it? Let's see, should it be someone who's insane, someone who may be possessed, or someone who's at death's door? ... Bolo will be happy to, unless we think a high intelligence and/or wisdom gives some advantage to effective use, in which case Bolo might not be the best choice.

My email is sfazekas1@verizon.net -- the gmail account was just for Afghanistan. Let's see: if Paavo is insane, Colby's possessed, and Trommer's about dead, for choices of leaders/crown users we got a stud dwarf fighter, a hobbit thief and an elf MU/Thief. If high intelligence plays any role in use of the crown, Fin's is 19. If saving throw bonuses play a role, then maybe Friedrich should give it a go as I assume with his dwarf and constitution bonuses his are best. Fin's willing. What is it we're trying to find the path to? Given the seeming state of shambles we're in, perhaps the best path to seek out would be to a city where we have a reasonable chance to heal Trommer, get counseling and perhaps Methadone for Paavo, and get Colby sorted out. Fin also likes the idea of getting 3d level spells and some specialized gear, like acid arrows, etc.

We are trying to find the Silver Princess. I think we are pretty close to clearing out the dungeon. Leaving now would allow the enemy to move her to another location or re-fortify the castle. If we don't find her in the straightforward manner then I think the crown is called for. (The reason we didn't use it to begin with was that Benesarion warned against using when we wanted to track down the vampire.) The savings throw is against spells with a bonus for high wisdom. Given Bolo's halfling constitution he is probably the best person to use it. I would suggest he expends a charge from the rod of flailing to give him an additional +4 to his savings throw. And borrow a ring of protection. I think if you fail your savings throw you are put under some sort of geas.

What did we do after we found the Silver Princess? Did we make it back to Devonshire? If we haven't left the castle yet there are somethings we could do. -collect troll parts to make new healing potions. -revisit the magic fountain and try to get the effects reversed. if every time you drink from it you get one of the 8 effects then statistically you should end up with no net effect. -visit the nymph in the baths -release the ogre from the jail -use the Silver Princess's knowledge to get any remaining treasure -check behind the secret door in the throne room
If we are back in Devonshire, then we should start thinking about what comes next. Maybe we can take care of some the training on the board beforehand.

We have left the castle and followed the Silver Princess to her elven rebel base. She said our escape was too easy and that we were allowed to escape with the battle plans for the invasion. We also found an unsigned letter in a fireplace that stated plans to assassinate the Baron that held the tournament. The Silver Princess will be moving to a new base before the empore...ultradaemon can launch an assault. She beleives that we were tracked to their hidden camp.
Elven healers have cured the wounds and mental states of afflicted party members. Paavo was relieved to find that Colby was in fact not evil. Detect magic was used to identify such items. Colby used his magics to determine nature of some things and examine the books and scrolls. The book that caused Mr. Trommer to go insane is only useable by mages. There is another that will increase the wisdom of the reader. Mr. Trommer called dibs.
Our current intention is to travel the faery roads with directions given to us by the Silver Princess to look for tears.
