Per David’s/zinc’s suggestion, Alfred will attempt to figure out the bow’s strength bonus through trial and error. At 18.01-50, I was unable to pull it. Here are a few ideas: 1. Can Basil pull the bow? As a half-elf maxed-out, I believe he has an 18.90 str. Dana, is Basil able to pull the bow? (I know he’s out of town for until Wednesday but I would imagine that he would be willing to try if I asked him to) If Basil can’t do it with 18.90 str then it’s basically garbage (for Alfred) and Kazan can have it if he wants it. (Kazan mentioned something about using the bow if I can’t in a earlier post, I believe) 2. Assuming Basil can pull it, then I know the bow is either an 18.51-75 str bow or an 18.76-90. 3. Now, if Alfred ~(16.60 or so str) can get one of the mages to cast strength on me a roll of 7 or 8 will put me into the 18.51-75 range. This seems quite doable given a few tries. Dana, given all of the time we are spending identifying and divining and how well I get along with Trifakis now, is my plan workable? Can Alfred pull it with an 18. 50-75 str? Basil can pull it, but no matter how many times Alfred gets enhanced strength, he can not pull the bow. It appears to be a +4 STR bow.

That sucks. Oh well. 8-)
Maybe when/if we get back to the Land of Song, Yngvar will have one made for me.
Kazan, want a bow?

Now that you have made 7th level you will get a percentile roll. Maybe that will be enough with a Strength spell. If not then Kazan will take the bow.

I will be out of town until next Wednesday. Feel free to make any suggestions for which the seven spells should be for the 3 scrolls. I haven't look at my sheet on Winthrop yet. Do you have Gust of Wind in any of your spell books? It should be effective against those creatures that change into stinking clouds. Any 6th level spells in your arsenal? Disintegrate? Anti-Magic Shell? Globe of Invulnerability? Project Image? Hold Monster is always good. No worries about accidentally getting party members. 12th level fireballs and lightning bolts can come in handy. Also good are Dispel magic, Slow, Cone of Cold, and Wall of Force.

When did Winthrop hit 12th level? Presumable during our adventures in the Abyss, which means he lacked access to the high level spell book we had stored in the Hall of the Blue Sun. That had some pretty sweet 6th level spells, that Winthrop presumably would have copied into regular books.

If anybody takes Gust of Wind over a USEFUL 3rd level spell, I will lightning bolt them.

Winthrop hit 12th level in Torsh, after the fight in the tower.

Sorta unrelated, but I was thinking through strategies for us, and our new supergroup is amazingly strong. Basil, Kazan, Rennslaer, Adrienne, and 2 paladins make for a ferocious front line. And Alfred, Zinc, the 3 wizards and Bandic the thief will be sufficiently secure to wreck major havoc.

Don't forget Bedad.
It is going to be hard coordinating everyone once we join with the full Company. There will be over 20 people in the group. The numbers won't necessarily be an advantage in encounters. We will need figure out the best marching order in the Web so that we can engage enemies we meet from the front, rear, above or below.
Is there a nominal leader for this huge group? Raven?
So what is the general plan. We tie everyone together and jump into the Abyss using the time juice and Antonus's finger to locate the Company. The Company is in sorry shape having just encountered some driders. The clerics go to work and heal people up to standing. Then what? Do we pull out the acorn and immediately try to find the Great Druid? Or do we look for a room to squat in while we get everyone up to full and remove curses? Is there any rush to identify any of the magic items the Company has?
Note that in the Abyss we don't have access to the Secret Chests. So anything we want to dole out or have access to should be removed before we take the leap.

Are the webs 15' abreast or 20'? While it's just us, we should put Basil, Rennslaer and Dinalas in the front rank and Kazan, Adrienne and Percivilas in the rear. Zinc, Alfred, Bandic, Antonus, Basil, Dell and Bedad will be in the middle, ready to pulverize in either direction.
I recommend finding the main group ASAP. Assuming we travel directly to them after Antonus is dead, we'll find Raven, Otto, Adler, Pfiffwin, Cedrus, Solaria, Florin, Hugh, Grizella, Hispeck, and Jasper's corpse. At that point we can march into any room and handle the occupants, and rest for 8 hours. We'll see what the acorn and silver cubes do. We can also try scrying with our new crystal ball, both here in the tomb and down in the Abyss.

Sounds good.
I am not sure how useful the Crystal Ball will be given the temporal/planar separation.

Dell states that they have been unable to scry into the Abyss with spells, including druidic ones.
He also shares his vision of the Abyss with you all. "The byways of the demon web are 20' wide and appear made of some type of polished stone, but this is false. We saw a slight movement in the surface, which when studied resolved itself into the bodies and faces of distorted humans," Dell shudders. "We walk on the lost souls of the Abyss, trapped in eternal punishment. There are no walls or ceilings around the pathways; instead, there is a billowing, grayish, repulsive-smelling fog. It clings to the edges of the pathways and forms a ceiling 10' above, making a corridor of sorts."

From the temple. In the treasure chamber Al, Solaria, Raven, Cedrus, Antonus, Hisspek, Hugh and Dell were busy finding things. Some items found: -staff with grasping human hand -rod -girdle -large stone plate mail -large stone sword -trident of rulership over the lizardman empire -caduceus - Hisspek says it heals, removes poison, disease and resurrects. -some rings -jade bracers -large carpet -broken jade statues of fallen gods -longsword (caused 12 pts of damage to Cedrus, see mace above - highly intelligent, very sharp (sharpness? vorpal?), took over Pfiffwin when he picked it up, must protect lizard folk) And some of these earlier items were never identified. Among the assorted bric-a-brac on the shelves are a number of items that radiate magic. They are: Two large bowling-ball sized agates (one grey and white and the other red and white). A large bottle filled with silver flecks. A nonmagical funnel is next to it. A brooch made of small bones shaped like a skeletal lizardman. A silver-dipped oak leaf. The leaf is definitely from an oak tree. A large petrified purple-tree (as in from outside) leaf on a long, curved metal tine. A set of large manacles. An over-sized brass candle-snuffer. The bug-eyed, gape mawed creature also had two magical items on him. One is a large gold-plated, iron nose-ring. The other is a pair of clawed boots.

The Steam-acles!!!!! It's good to have them back. I think the petrified leaf was a spell book of sorts, it would add pages to a book. One of the agates gave water breathing, I think. I recall the nose-ring was protection +1, and Jasssper put it in his nose.

Al died in the swamp when the tentacle beasts found you. Clift died in the blade barrier. Clift's body was lost. I don't recall about Al.

Two large bowling-ball sized agates (one grey and white and the other red and white). (I think you put them on your head and they let you breathe water... or something weird) A large bottle filled with silver flecks. A nonmagical funnel is next to it. (no idea) A brooch made of small bones shaped like a skeletal lizardman. (we gave this to the Lizard-Wizard) A silver-dipped oak leaf. The leaf is definitely from an oak tree. (feather fall or something I thought) A large petrified purple-tree (as in from outside) leaf on a long, curved metal tine. (spellbook, new spells - Winthrop's Scorcher, also some kind of Force Lance?) A set of large manacles. (the STEAMACLES!) An over-sized brass candle-snuffer. (summons minor fire elemental)

What happened to Clift's intelligent sword? Did it go down with his body? And is Rennslaer tough enough to handle the ego-tastic vorpal sword?

The only reason Pfiffwin couldn't handle the sword was low hit points. If we can get it off him, that thing would be awesome with Rensslaer's double-specialization.

Being dominated by a sword is not the same as having a cursed item. It can be removed from the character when he is unconscious. I don't know if there are any residual effects of the domination. Like the character fighting to get the sword back. Typically such a sword would want to be in the hands of the person most likely to accomplish its primary purpose.

Reading through old posts on the board, apparently we did bring both Al and Jasssper with us. If Hisspeck has run off then there will be no one to carry the massive body of Jasssper. Maybe we should summon mounts and then take them into the Abyss with us. (I don't think the spell works in the Abyss.) Unfortunately Winthrop is one level short of being able to summon an elephant.

Does Adrienne have any holy water? She knew she was going to head into the Abyss where there was a staff which needed holy water to resurrect people. Hisspeck didn't run off until we reached the ghoul room, where everyone died. Where's the Stone Horse? I do have a vague memory of using passwall on the Abyss floor to drop between levels, and the horse fell through into elemental chaos.

I could have sworn we had the horse on Torsch. (of course, of course)
Also Mount works in the Abyss, it summons a bunch of larvae that attack you. Heh.
