Zinc will of course detect evil on any everything before we identify it, and will pass around blessing if anyone wants them. From previous board entries, it seems like we got 2 flasks from the tomb of al-badr. Who has them? If we do, they should be at the bottom of the list.
Star gem of Khan-Pelar 2 maces from Hassan/Korvus Scimitar #2 from Hassan/Korvus Glittering helm Crystal ball Shield from the crypt of Al-badr Glove from the temple of Seker Tower shield (from Thurnas Netmaster?) Magic user book Platinum book
I guess the books should be read first, since they might not need identifying.
And can we get an accounting of what the Company members have? Either from Dana or from Lee if he can pore through the binders and find the old character sheets.

Also I believe most everyone was cursed for taking stuff from the Temple of Twilus. We will want to get those curses removed as soon as possible. Removing a curse from a 16th level cleric is cake compared to what we've been doing to help Basil after getting cursed directly by the gods.

Rensslaer has two unidentified potions from the Tomb of Al-Badr.
Removing the curse in the Abyss might be tricky because we can't rememorize 3rd level spells.
I distinctly remember Antonus had picked up a wicked looking clawed staff from the vault in the Temple of Twilus that I really wanted identified and then we all died.

Either from Dana or from Lee if he can pore through the binders and find the old character sheets. Pawnis has explained how the Star Gem of Khan-Pelar works. That leaves the Star Gem of Shah-Pelar. We need to know how often it can be used to heal. The platinum book is definitely a spell book given that Basil was unable to read it. So no need to identify. The other book has been identified by Basil as a non-spell book. I don't want to try reading it without an augury (from Adrienne?) that the effects are good. If we can identify it without having to read it that is preferable. Will Basil use a detect balance on it? How about a know alignment or a detect good? Also the paladins can do a detect evil for free. I would suggest this order for identify: Crystal ball Glove from the temple of Seker Glittering helm Star gem of Khan-Shah Scimitar #2 from Hassan/Korvus 2 maces from Hassan/Korvus Shield from the crypt of Al-badr Tower shield (from Thurnas Netmaster?) Magic user book (only after other options are explored) Do we want to give the paladins the magic scimitars with which they are specialized as well as the surplus magic shields? Paladins in the Abyss. That should be interesting. I wonder if their protection from evil works. BTW, even though we haven't encountered anything in this realm that doesn't we won't. There is always the chance for a wandering monster (out of the Abyss?). We should set guards if the magic users are going to be distracted. Can we get a secure shelter?

I meant the healing star gem, and will now call them the Star Gems of Healing, Memorization, and True-Seeing.
Augury requires 100 GP of dragon bones. Adrienne should have some, which we cut from some of the many dragons slain by the Company. She gets a free casting once per day, and Zinc will also augur. We'll also Detect Balance, Detect Evil, try a Know Alignment, etc.
Good idea on the secure shelter. Once everything is Identified and we get an accounting of what the Company PCs have, we'll reallocate everything.

Day 1
1. The Wizards three engage in a bit of one-upsmanship and each summon a small house. The island now looks like it is covered in vacation cottages. The paladins watch over the crystal minaret.
2. The clerics augur whether it would be beneficial for Kazan to open the book. Adrienne indeed has rune-carved pieces of bone that she receives from Dell. She provides some to Zinc. Basil finds the book to be well-balanced. Zinc does not detect evil or good from the book. Know alignment is ineffective Zinc augurs that it would not be beneficial for Kazan to open the book. Adrienne disagrees and says it would be beneficial. Adrienne and Zinc agree the spell is not definitive and that they can try again later or on the next day.
3. Dell, Winthrop, Antonus, and Kazan retreat to the shelters and begin casting identify, which Kazan reads from a tattered, bloody, burnt spell book. Kazan notices that the shelter has a large, ornate, carved trunk in it that the book is kept in.
Crystal ball - is a scrying device; requires more identification Glove from the temple of Seker - vibrates in the presence of undead; requires more identification Glittering helm - Kazan identifies this as a helm that will permanently change your ethics Star gem of Khan-Shah - will cure critical wounds three times per day
The castings consume 4 of Kazan's 25 pearls.
3. Kazan and Antonus peer over each others shoulders while looking at the platinum book, henceforth known as the TOME OF TIME. It has a big splashy title page. It contains HASTE; SLOW; DIMENSION DOOR; DISTANCE DISTORTION; PASSWALL; TELEPORT; DISINTEGRATE; LIMITED WISH; PERMANENCY; TEMPORAL STASIS; and TIME STOP. The platinum book is worth 20,000 GP for its metal content.
4. Winthrop pulls out of his chest the left-over magics from the Company of the Blue Sun. They are: 2 Ringmail +1 1 Halberd +1 1 Splintmail +1 4 Chainmail +1 1 Chainmail +2 1 Chainmail vest +2 1 Platemail +1

Day 12. We can try again but there is no rush. I doubt there is anything immediately useful from reading it. Even if it was a book of infinite spells you would have to be pretty lucky to get a spell we don't already have access to. 3. Dell, Winthrop, Antonus, and Kazan retreat to the shelters and begin casting identify, which Kazan reads from a tattered, bloody, burnt spell book. Kazan notices that the shelter has a large, ornate, carved trunk in it that the book is kept in. Crystal ball - is a scrying device; requires more identification Glove from the temple of Seker - vibrates in the presence of undead; requires more identification Glittering helm - Kazan identifies this as a helm that will permanently change your ethics Star gem of Khan-Shah - will cure critical wounds three times per day The castings consume 4 of Kazan's 25 pearls. The next day we can do the Crystal Ball, the Glove, the 2nd Scimitar and the shield from the Crypt. Is anyone going to use a mace? If not we can put them in the chest. 4. That is a nice selection of spells. Anyone want me to take Haste? Winthrop is 12th, right? He can take Disintegrate. Do you think a limited wish will remove the effects of the pool on Zinc? 5. Winthrop pulls out of his chest the left-over magics from the Company of the Blue Sun. They are: 2 Ringmail +11 Halberd +11 Splintmail +14 Chainmail +11 Chainmail +21 Chainmail vest +21 Platemail +1We should give the paladins their choice. Note that magic is degraded in the Abyss, either 1 or 2 points. But I think the weight is unaffected. Is that right? I assume everyone is healed up to full while we are waiting around. Do have room for some surplus platinum in Winthrop's chest? Also Morvan's spell books. I am sure there is other stuff we don't need to carry around. Anything else to accomplish?

The next day we can do the Crystal Ball, the Glove, the 2nd Scimitar and the shield from the Crypt. Is anyone going to use a mace? If not we can put them in the chest.
Yes, Alfred plans on using the mace that we got for getting the princess back. It is mace #2 I believe and is still unidentified. Would Kazan mind identifying it?

OK. We can do a third day of identifying to do the maces, remaining shield and anything that needs additional identification.
A random thought. Do you think we could use a Death's Door after an Identify to speed up the process? Allowing us to do multiple Identifies in a day.

A random thought. Do you think we could use a Death's Door after an Identify to speed up the process? Allowing us to do multiple Identifies in a day. No. We've house ruled the exhaustion part of the spell into a time duration. The one per day is the extensive ritual that needs to be done, which, while it can be interrupted, prevents adventuring, spell-casting, or performing other activities. Day 21. More cottages. It becomes apparent that each of the wizards has manufactured a summonable chest. 2. The clerics augur whether it would be beneficial for Kazan to open the book. Adrienne augurs that it would not be beneficial for Kazan to open the book. Zinc disagrees and says it would be beneficial. Adrienne and Zinc agree the spell is not definitive and that they can try again later or on the next day. 3. Kazan notices that the shelter has a large, ornate, carved trunk in it that the book is kept in. Crystal ball - is a scrying device; allows person scrying to hear what is viewed in the ball. Glove from the temple of Seker - vibrates in the presence of undead; will discharge a 30 foot bolt of energy on command of the wearer that does 40 HP damage to the undead it strikes, no save; requires more identification Scimitar #2 - Scimitar +1/+3 vs. undead Mace #1 - Mace +1 The castings consume 4 of Kazan's 25 pearls. 17 remain 4. Winthrop also finds a set of field plate mail in his chest! 5. I've got a speadsheet of the various assets of the Company of the Blue Sun if anyone would like to see it.

Once we get some spell inks, we can start copying pages from the Tome of Time to a new book and casting them from that book. I'd suspect, from a metagaming perspective, that a limited wish might give me a new roll on the magic fountain's table, as opposed to overturn the magic outright, but I really have no idea.
So, to get this straight, the weapons we got from the sheik are a mace +1, a mace +3, and two scimitars that are both +1/+3 vs undead? Regarding the maces, Alfred still has the +3 drow mace, right?

Alfred has the drow mace +3 and mace 2 . (which has yet to be identified) My understanding is that mace 1 is +1, and mace #3 is plus 3. In Dana's prior post he stated mace 3 is +3 after I asked about mace 2. To Dana: Was this just a typo on your part? Did you mean to say mace #2 instead of #3. As far as I know, nobody took mace #3.

To speed things up, Rennslaer should join in the auguring. If the magic scimitars are indeed the same, we should give one to each of the paladins. We should also inform Dell about how we're equiped, in case he hasn't noticed that Basil is wearing drow chainmail and that we have a drow mace. He should be able to confirm my memory that drow items gain an extra +2 when worn in the Demon Web Pits.

OK. Let's hold off on anymore auguring regarding the book for now. It is not going to be immediately useful assuming it is aligned correctly. Getting access to 5th level would take a week of study and 2-12 days of training. Not that useful given the addition of Winthrop, Dell and Antonus. Kazan is going to mainly work as a fighter.

I think it's also quite likely that the book is neutrally aligned, which makes it totally worthless. Dell cannot gain any XP as a magic user, and no one else can read it.

Against magic resistant creatures Kazan's spell are the least likely to work. I guess he will concentrate on utility spells and spells that help the party members. He will ask the three wizards for access to some spells if they have them. His load would be something like (I am open to suggestions)
1st: enlarge, feather fall*, magic missile x 2, protection from evil*, unseen servant* 2nd: detect invisibility, knock, mirror image x 2, strength* 3rd: fly, slow, protection from normal missiles, fireball 4th: polymorph self, minor globe, wall of ice*
* indicates he would need to borrow a spell book.

BTW, how are we on continual light stones? Using the Star Gem of Memorization a magic user can turn out 2/hour. Kazan is happy to spend some time creating them if he can get access to a spellbook with the spell. 6 hours would give everyone an additional stone.

Our clerics can also create glowing stones, and probably should do it instead of Kazan, who's been spending time memorizing.
I think that spell load looks good.
How do we want to rearrange the weapons and armor? Does Basil want to take the Chain +2, or is he happy with the Drow chain and elven chain?
After Basil has picked, I'm happy letting the paladins each take a scimitar and chose what they want among the armor.

The Company agreed to chance the recovery of the others and possibly the world. They bankrupted the treasury to make scrolls, spellbooks, and potions, create summonable chests, and otherwise prepare themselves for the dangerous trip. Kazan will ask if there are any scrolls or potions left over from their preparations? Being able to cast spells at the level of Winthrop would make Kazan more useful. What about potions of protection from demons or potions to increase the potency of our fighters - invulnerability, giant strength, (super) heroism? Once the Sea of Dust was reached, Winthrop collected Adrienne, who was the most essential to the plan since she was the only one who could cast any of the revivifying magics, by teleportation. Was Adrienne able to get scrolls of raise dead with the help of Sevenfold Church? Any other scrolls that it would make sense to share with our clerics? Do any of these scrolls have Plane Shift? Is there another means for returning back to our world once we have saved the Great Druid?

What about potions of protection from demons or potions to increase the potency of our fighters - invulnerability, giant strength, (super) heroism? Indeed, each of the Wizards has three scrolls left of 1, 3, and 3 spells. These are the remains of what they have originally scribed. Antonus and Winthrop can choose what spells they have on the scrolls. If they want to trade with you, that's their choice. Potion-wise, each Wizard has 1d6 potions left over as well. You have a fine notion of what sorts of items Winthrop collected over time. Pawnis explains that his potions are not especially for warriors. Adrienne smiles a quiet smile. She declines to provide any scrolls to anyone. Dell claims not to be concerned. "After all, the Great Druid is great!," he says.

Unfortunately we have very little other than gems and platinum to trade for the scrolls or potions. I figured you would want to share with us any magics that would be mutually beneficial for the whole party - just as we are sharing the magical scimitars and shields with the paladins and you are sharing magic armor. You must have chosen to hold back scrolls and potions that would be particularly useful against the dangers we will face in the Abyss. And intended to share those with the members of the Company once you were reunited. Since we are joining the Company (at least temporarily) we should also gain the benefits. (OOC: Eddie - make sure you select scrolls and potions for Antonus since you won't be there on the 15th. Also decide if you want to share with anyone other than Rensslaer.)
Regardless, will you provide us with details of this world we are traveling to? Do you have maps? What dangers or obstacles do we face? We have a little experience fight the dark elves but anything else you can tell us about their abilities and weaknesses would be useful. Also we have fought devils but faced few demons. What can you tell us of them? (OOC: I assume the Champions will be brought up to speed on all we know from the Company's travels in the Abyss. Though it might be useful to summarize some stuff for Chris's sake - like what spells/magic items do not work well in the Demonweb.)
Also we should tell you of our strengths so that you know where we excel and can compliment each other in combat. Hopefully you will share this knowledge of yourselves. This will be useful if you are knocked unconscious and someone needs to find a goodberry or potion of healing or star gem of healing quickly. Or worse you are killed and their are magics on your body that can save the remaining members of the party. (OOC: anyone have a problem sharing knowledge of abilities and magic items with the Company?)
