For those of you who missed our last episode suffice it to say that we have taken a high speed cruise to an exotic place. We executed our six man strike force assault on the ghost ship to seize a mast. Just as we were about to start at cutting the mast the ship moved off at high speed rapidly leaving the Gray Lady behind. We then decided to search the ship as Otto was descending the stairs to the next deck the stairs broke and he fell down to the hold deftly landing on his feet. Raven decisively said "Tie a rope to the mast and give it to me" and bravely jumped after Otto (his ring of feather fall never entered his mind). I paraphrase Raven's exact wording. Otto of course was attacked by some ghouls and some worm like bugs and was soon paralyzed. Needless to say that Raven leads the rescue and Otto was saved.
After the fight we found a concealed door that lead to a dry cabin with a skeleton sitting in a chair. Shortly after an ethereal glow came to life and the ghostly form of the Captain appeared. The form proclaimed herself as Captain Senora and that we had been selected to help her correct a mistake she made. Apparently she and the surgeon tried to create some sort of creature and things did not go well. Using Tim the Sailor as a guinea pig they called into being some sort of negative plane creature that now acts as an avatar of the shark people's god. The six of us in the elite Blue Sun Strike Team have to kill this avatar in order to be returned to the Gray Lady. This or course means that we have to assault the underwater temple and kill the creature. Of course Raven wants the opportunity to get the magical "named" sword that is stuck in the creature.
After Raven sassed Captain Senora he gained a little more wisdom as one several years older we went and clear the ship of the remaining spawn of the creature we must kill. We also retrieved some item on the ship that will aid us in breathing underwater. So after some resting and healing we arrived at our destination ready to go visit some old friends.

Did I miss much after I left? We were wandering around the ship cleaning out the infestation of undead crew and leech/snake things. I left just as we encountered some sort of legged shark that was hiding in a murky glass aquarium. I assume after the surprise wore off we hacked it to pieces. Anything interesting in the surgeon's quarters? Did the Captain identify all of the items we found? Did we find an antidote for the poison in Winthrop? Am I all healed up?

No you didn't miss too much. Raven did get a bit more lippy with the Captain again. She didn't give him any my years of wisdom. The captain did tell us what the items were; 2 healing potions, 6 waterbreating potions, the magic knife has to be held in order for the water breathing to work, we also found the book that was used to summon/create the creature but we left it alone. After that Cedrus rested and we got everyone fully healed up. We have stopped several miles away for where the temple is. Once we say we are ready the captain will move the ship and drop us off. The poison did not have any further affect on me after the initital damage. Those that the worms munched on were feeling a bit sick but Raven asked Cedrus to cast cure disease on each which seemed to cure their ills.

If I have Minor Globe of Invulnerability up when I cast Lightning Bolt underwater, would that protect me from taking damage from the spell?

Since the globe has a radius, I think you'd still get fried. If I have Minor Globe of Invulnerability up when I cast Lightning Bolt underwater, would that protect me from taking damage from the spell?

Don't worry, if we don't succeed Captain Senora will be back for another group of hearty adventurers to give it a try. Just think of all the great stuff that you would be able to find.

we also found the book that was used to summon/create the creature but we left it alone. First you give back that big book of Pelor and now you leave behind fragments of another powerful tome. I don't think you really want to be all powerful after all. And there might have been something useful in there about how to reverse the spell that created this avatar. Of course I'm not volunteering to look through it or touch it for that matter. I'll stick to poking things with the sharp end of my sword and looking under beds were things are of course going to jump out and attack me. We each have our specialities.

I wanted to pick it up and read it. Raven didn't want me to touch it but you do have an excellent point. I should read it before we go. Especially since the negative plane mold didn't go anywhere near it. A most excellent idea I will do exactly that and read it! A little knowledge never hurts...

I will be out next weekend. Otto will come along for the ride. How is this going to work exactly? Is this all underwater or are we going down through caves? I guess I will have to take off the ring of water walking if we are going underwater. What are we doing about our armor? Attacking a horder of sahaugin without armor does not sound like a good idea let alone an avatar of their god. Of course if things go at our normal pace you should still be in the middle of things by the time I return. I want to be there when we recover Foebiter.

We we told that there is an underwater temple of some sort so you would need to take off the ring. We will be wearing the full armor. I'm hoping that some part of the temple has air for the summoned creature. I think we need to try and sneak in using the Invisibility 15' and go straight for the Avatar.
It now occurs to me that there was another reason I didn't immediatley open the tome. Both the spell books has a Sepia Snake Sigil on them that I was lucky enough to make the saving throws on. We assumed that it would be the same for the tome. I think we need to take it to where the Captain is and see if she we allow me to read it.

Are we certain that Dell didn't change his mind about coming? He could have flown over to the ship invisibly and hid in the crow's nest. Better yet - are we sure Jerry isn't really Pavel? It would be nice to have someone who could move quietly and backstab/assassinate for this sort of rapid strike mission. The last time we tried sneaking in somewhere invisibly didn't exactly work well. There was the problem of knowing where everyone was and not making noise. The noise might not be a problem in the water but I tend to bump into things and Jerry never likes being invisible. We don't happen to have a map of this temple, do we?
I thought monster summoning took into account the terrain/environs so you will only get creatures that naturally inhabit the location of the spellcaster. Or is it like 'mount' that will bring the summoned mount from any distance to the spellcaster?

Ypu never know with Dell. Too bad I wasn't able to borrow the lion. It's not like Dell uses it that often. Practice, practice , practice, we just have to keep at it with the invisibility thing. I would rather be able to get to wahtever spellcasters there are quickly and get rid of them. The Captain didn't mention any map. Maybe Raven could ask the Captain nicely? Who knows how many times she has done this before. There may have been a few she sent before that made it back to her ship such that she got information from them. The Shark people may make this sort of thing a regular business depending on how often she sends adventurers down. It may also mean there is extra stuff from those parties for us to get if we actually succeed.
What do you think I will waste...I mean use a 5th level spell without a copy? Since we are going underwater it would only be possible if the Captain's spell books have been lacquered to make them waterproof. I forgot to ask that question. I'm going to have to leave my spell books behind since I haven't remembered to do that yet with my current books.

I think "summoned creature" was referring to the beasty that we're supposed to kill. Regarding invisibility, we're fighting sharks. They'll likely smell us a mile away. I wholly concur with the wishful thinking that more of our buddies are secretly on board.

One of the spellbooks we got has the 5th level spell Monster Summoning III. I don't know if the type of creatures summoned are ajusted to refelect the atmosphere they are called into.
The sharks will be able to smell blood but they may not investigate 'other' smells. I forget what our movement rates are underwater. There is also the question of how far we can see depending on how deep the temple is.

I have the ring of infravision so I can go ahead invisible without the need of a light. It doesn't work any better underwater than normal vision but at least I don't need a light alerting them to our presence. Also I think from some experimentation I was doing with the ring - any light source carried will disappear if the holder becomes invisible. (I was checking if I could see invisible people with the ring. The answer is no.) So everyone else will be very limited if they are invisible in the dark. Do shark men sea in the dark? If not they may have lit the temple with natural/magical lights, so this could be moot.

I see. I was a bit confused recently by your request for me to turn invisible for a little bit. I didn't pay it much attention but i see it was part of your experimentation on what the ring could do. I assume that their vision is better tahn ours underwater but I do know if that is true. I hope that temple is lighted. If we have to use a light source to get inside I expect that we will be fighting our way in. We may want to risk having Raven ask the Captain if it is possible to come back and rest in case we need to recover to make another attempt.

For those of you that missed our last episode we were being taken by Captain Sorena to the location of a Shark People temple to destroy a creature from a failed experiment in summoning. Once we were ready the ship took us to the location and dropped us off. Before doing so I surprised everyone by polymorphing into a Sharke person. We then dropped off the boat and sunk down to the sea mount top. We were able to find a disguised opening into the mount and the typical Blue Sun tactical barged right in and the fighting began. Otto and Raven were mauled preety badly during the intial fights and decided early on to use the healing we picked up on the Fortunate Son. The party fought its way to the center chamber where we unfortunately lost a party member. As we were trying to get through the trap door in the ceiling leading to the central chamber Cash uttered the need to get into the chamber as he tried to grab one of the trident and pull a Sharkman out. Jerry hearing the comment proceeded to grab Cash and toss him up through the hole. Cash was not able to survived the attacks of the four Sarkmen that attacked him and was quickly slain. With the Sharkmen distracted with the killing of Cash Jerry went up followed by Otto and Raven. The Priestess in the chamber paralyzed Jerry but Otto and Raven resisted. Cedrus had a lot of difficulty being able to swim in his plate mail so I went up and in an attempt to save jerry cast web on him and the Sharkman next to him. The priestess and one Sharkman escaped through the second trap door in the room.
In the room there was a stone maw like opening in the floor. We could see 30 to the eel like progeny of the summoned creature inside the opening. We used some bladders of a fruity type liquid to cover our selves which allow us to pass by the creatures unharmed. Jerry found it very tasty. We then roamed through the passages and caverns seeking the creature. A while later I, in my super Sharkman form with my spiffy blue cloak, came across a sea elf. Needless to say Oceanus II attacked me before I could change shape into a sea elf. After I switched he calmed down after seeing the rest of the party. Since none is the party spoke elvish we took a while to communicate wrtining in the sand. The sea elf gave us directions to where the summoned creature was. I polymorphed into a small fish and swan ahead to scout. I was immediately attacked by the creature which had a great maw and two smaller ones. I was able to avoid being swalloed and quickly swam back to the party with the monster close behind. The final battle then began. Otto, Raven and Jerry hacked away at the monster while Cedrus (with a wand I loaned him) and I hit it with magic missiles. Unfortunatley the creature had a high resistance to magic so my bolts did not harm it. Raven got swallowed and was then attacked by lots of smaller mouths inside the monster. With his great strength Raven was able to pry open the mount to escape before being swallowed again. Even Oceanus II came up to help in the fight. Cedrus slapped out a couple of heals while I webbed the inside of the monster's mouth so the little mouths couldn't munch on Raven. at the same time Otto delivered two final two blows that killed the monster. We then cut Raven out of the mouth of the dead creature. The party tend searched to chamber beyond that had a thick covering of small peices of dead flesh that had shed of the monster. After some time searching I stepped on a very sharp object that cut me badly. That was how we found "Foebreaker." Shortly after we made our way back to the main chamber where I was attacked by "The Undead Cash" as I poked my head through the hole. I backed up and use a lightning bolt to electrocute Cash along with the Priestess that animated him and another Sharkman. Then following the sea elf we went to a guard barracks that we had not cleaned out and killed two sharkmen there. Inside we sound the bodies of the sea elf's two sisters that were recently slain. We then packed up the bodies and left the temple and went back to the Fortunate Son.
Once there Raven and I went to talk to the Captain. She was glowing more brightly and was aware of our success. She said she would take us back and gave me a lecture when I suggested dropping off the sea elf. She said we were welcome to take what ever we wanted form the boat. I had started reading the Book of Necton before we went to kill the monster so the Captain warned me to heed her notes she had added to get it right. During the trip back we were able to take a spar to serve as a mast and the necessary ropes and stuff to install it. Once back to the Gray Lady we quickly transferred all the stuff as the Fornate Sun immediately started sinking. We underwater we could see that the keel of the ship was actually broken. The new mast was installed and as we sailed I spent eight days identlifying "Foebreaker" while Dell indentified his Shooting Stars ring. We eventually made land at an island that the Blue Sun had visited before.
They should have forgotten us by now...

Sometimes you have help people even though they don't realize that they are better off for the help. With the little Dimension Door ability of Foebreaker I could easily get two extra people in and out with out being seen...
