I thought the fight went well again. We could have been a bit more organized, or tried to ask questions before we fireballed the giants, but we managed to demolish a troop of 6 giants and 20+ orks without any real problems. (I'll define real problems as having anyone go into negative hit points, or having more than 2 people down at the same time.)

Shooting first and asking questions later is what the Company of the Blue Sun is all about. But we really should teach Winthrop some restraint. Raven, you know what kind of effect magical fire can have on valuable posessions... I'm all in favor of hurting the enemy, I just think we should be cautious not to ruin our cut of the cash when we do.

We left one giant alive actaully. I've been trying to figure out what we are going to tell him.
"Sorry we killed your friends and tried to rip your throat out. Want to be friends? You're going to need some new ones..."
I don't have a problem with the attack first ask questions later but maybe we should reconsider cutting everyone's throat the second their lights go out. It would certainly be a lot easier to explain this giant misunderstanding (pardon the pun) if they weren't dead.

I think we need to wait until the priests can cast detect alignment on the giants before we start calling it a mistake.

I think we need to wait until the priests can cast detect alignment on the giants before we start calling it a mistake. The fireball didn't kill anyone, they could have easily surrendered or asked to negotiate at that point. Whether they're good or evil is irrelevant - they chose to fight, and that got them killed. Had they yelled "die Nerulites" as they attacked, we would have (probably) stopped and said "we thought you were the Nerulites" Ultimately, they made a bad decision, and like a lot of bad decisions, it cost them their lives. After all, we're still alive - so obviously they were the ones that made the mistake.

"Are we dead?" is a pretty low bar to clear to see whether or not we've made a mistake.
We might have made a mistake because it's going to be harder to find and/or fight the Nerulites. We just need better intel for this.
If only there were some sort of Scout to gather this sort of intel.
Sure scouting can be a dangerous job, but so is combat and everyone should have some dangerous job.

It's not that we might not have made a mistake... it's the importance of living long enough to make new mistakes. So whatever mistakes we made are insignificant, compared to the mistake that they made.
And it's good to see you volunteering to take on some more duties in the company, Liato - your abilities to move through the forest and talk to the animals will make you an excellent scout.
