I think we'd need more context from Hispek about their history. I think that the old Empire is no more, and there are now two, new groups. The lizards of Gnitrax have their own trident of leadership and don't seem to be direct successors to the old empire. It's like if we'd have taken the relics we got from Clan Mumatandan and just gave them to a group of dwarves like they were theirs.

Otto doesn't feel any allegiance towards the lizardfolk of Gnitrax. They are all humanoids in his eyes. Any powerful magic items that we can use to help free the humans on this world or Oerth should be kept by the Company. If you Hold Person them are they not Held? If you Charm them are they not Charmed? Lizardmen are people too. At least here. This is why such animosity exists between the humans of this world and the lizard people. We can bridge that gulf. Since when did we become a group of mercenaries and thieves? I don't see how you can call attempting to save humankind from the likes of Lloth and Twilus mercenary. I don't see anyone else risking their lives to attack these gods on their planes. Is there even someone we could give the items to who could effectively use them against the evil lizardmen? Why give away a powerful magic item if its likely to fall back into the hands of the very people we took it from? Are there even magic users among the lizard people who could use the staff or rod? I certainly wouldn't want the lizard wizard to have them.

I certainly wouldn't want the lizard wizard to have them. Anyone wielding a vorpal sword is pretty effective. Look at Pffifwin and the Type V demon! I wasn't suggesting we give them everything we found. Just that we should maybe return to them the most holy relic of their god. Go on then, keep the Trident of all Lizard-kind, the symbol of their people that could unite all lizard-folk against their oppressors. Keep the super-sentient vorpal sword. That'll be a lark when it possesses someone and starts cutting off our heads. But don't make doing something noble sound like it's insanity.

Note the difference - he is on Sterich Island while we went through the temple of the Twilus, killed General Murgo and saved people to be sacrificed. Is there even someone we could give the items to who could effectively use them against the evil lizardmen? If you really want to do something noble, then we should take these items and strike down the Theocrat. We are the only group on Torsh that can stand up to him in his temple. Maybe we coordinate with the forces from Gnitrax to open the attack up on multiple fronts but even if we went alone we are still the most capable users. Gnitrax may not even have a cleric that are remove the curses from these items.

Antonus can have fully rememorized spells in 14 hours.

I'm in favor of going back too. Of course, it all depends on what our leader chooses. But I'd like to retrieve Clift's body for burial.
Oh, a thought: when the Theocrat does Speak with Dead on Clift, what do you suppose he's going to ask?

Excellent! Hopefully we are faster at memorizing than the Theocrat.
We will need a whole new method for gaining access to the Temple and finding the Theocrat. Sneaking into the city at night won't work. I suggest flying invisibly or teleporting. If only we had a magic carpet. We should leave behind the lowest level members. I would suggest just taking magic users with minor globes, the heavy hitters - Otto, Raven and Grizela (sorry Al), and a couple of clerics.

Magic-users all Polymorph Self into Nightmares, load up with heavy hitters and clerics. Fly to the Temple. Mages polymorph into Driders, cast their Minor Globes and Walls of Fire, Lightning Bolts, etc. Otto cries "havok" and lets loose the dogs of war.

Whoa boys. I think a strike mission against the Theocrat might be worthwhile later, but certainly not soon. We have no idea what the curse does. For all we know it charmed us all. Let's just wait to see if we can survive long enough to rest. As I see it there are two valid options: Walk to a portal or walk to the temple. If we think the city surrounding jungle is too hot right now, we could just march north to a portal. I think we should skirt the city like we did before and head for the coatl temple. He can remove the curse, we can meet up with Chotal, and we can get to the boat to safety.
