IS there anything to buy in Orlane? The village has a store that sells items from the PHB, absent weapons and armor, at 125% cost. The village blacksmith and his family, always prone to rage, appears to have had a conversion following his induction into the Snake Cult. He, and his family, fought against the villagers, slaying several, in a berserker rage. The blacksmith's items have been taken to the store. Weapons and armor up to banded in quality are available at 150% cost. Mina and Darrin are the children of the town carpenter. He and his wife are overjoyed to see you all and gives Clifton, who Mina and Darrin describe as the brave man who stayed behind to protect them while the others went off, a wooden box, elaboratel carved with intricate leafy patterns. He also offers up space in his barn if anyone wishes to stay there rather than in the Golden Grain Inn, since it has such a bad reputation. Parsons heads out of town with several men from the village, presumably heading to Hookhill.

Are there any warhorses or riding horses to purchase in Orlane? Ledonia and Claude would like to buy horses for their travel. They will be going to Hochoch to deliver the gift on behalf of Wendelain to the Church of Kord. After that they will travel around the Oytwood to the elven village at the edge of the forest. With the loss of Wendelain a cleric is sorely missing from their small band. Would Adler or Frippi be interested in joining? Florin has also shown some interest coming along.
Otto and Pfiffwin are considering joining them as far as Hochoch before turning south. There is a gnome illusionist in Hochoch who should be able to help Pfiffwin reacquire some of the spells he lost earlier. The illusionist in Longspear had remarkably few spells. Does Hugh have a problem with heading to Hochoch next?

I think that if some folks are going, the whole group should go. We should inquire around Orlane to find out if the Javan river has become safer for commercial travel since the Company smashed that group of bandits. If it is, we should probably head to Hochoch and take the river to Longspear.

I don't think it was the bandit group that was making the river unsafe. Rather the undead army that holds Sterich and parts of Keoland which include the Javan.
BTW, I am assuming that Otto and Hugh are thankful for the new adventurers help against the naga but are not deferring to them in any discussions about the next plans. Otto and Hugh always intended to head back to Longspear once this side quest was complete. Whether the new adventurers join them holds no great weight in their plans.
Out of game we can decide if we want to start a junior party that can be used to go on some low level adventures or whether we should try to take them with us into the mountains. Considering how poorly Gitmo, Naboth and Pfiffwin did on the glacier I think the new guys could use some seasoning. Also since Herbert and Eig are already in the area it makes sense to base the new party in Hochoch and the Oytwoods. They can investigate all of the plot threads from Hochoch that we ignored previously.

Ah, the Blue Sun Triple A Minor League Team. Is a good idea.

Sounds good to me. Perhaps we can name them Morningstar Security.

Sounds good to me. Perhaps we can name them Morningstar Security. You should not encourage him. And besides, they should obviously be called Florin's Merry Band.

I mean, "The Killers that work with Clifton", not "Those guys that killed Clifton." Although Morningstar Security does have a ring to it...

Dell will require a franchising fee if you want to use Morningstar Security.

Here's how we pitch it to this Dell guy. For one, it sounds like he's got a big ego. Those kind are the biggest suckers.
If we're all sleeping in stables and stinking and poorly equipped, it will reflect badly on the wannabe-Lord Dell Morningstar. It's in his best interest to have his namesake company as potent as possible. If we pitch it right, play to his ego, and don't let Florin talk at all, he'll pay us to be called Morningstar Security.
I've heard tell of groups of adventurers that work for powerful wizards to retrieve spell components and artifacts. I mean, I wouldn't mind going to an ancient Dwarven stronghold to retrieve a powerful magical amulet. Just as long as it's not in the swamp, and there are no Troglodytes there.

Hugh would like to proselytize to all the folk of the town about the benefits of worshipping Trithereon. They need to know how to protect themselves to be able to exact revenge on those swamp creatures that hurt them and misled them so. Through their retribution against those that took their freedom and children they can redeem themselves and find a new measure of self worth by helping those in need.

Several riding horses (6) are available for sale, but they are relatively pricy, given that they could be used by the farmers as well. They'll cost twice the PHB cost. One light warhorse is available for purchase from the Constable at three times normal PHB cost.
Hugh is a very energetic speaker, and his devotion to revenge is certain. He harrangues and motivates the townfolk about protecting themselves and avenging their brethren lost to the vile creatures of the swamp. Mayor Zacharias seems somewhat displeased by Hugh's exhortations to vigilanteism, but doesn't speak up, probably recognizing the hypocrisy of him doing so.

We can wait until we get to Hochoch to buy horses. Maybe we should just get a mule or two to carry the gold.

Is Hugh going to build a shrine here? We are going back to Longspear, and he was explicitly told not to return without building a shrine somewhere, right?

Do we have enough gold for a big golden bell?

Do we have enough gold for a big golden bell? If we melt down the golden fruits and veggies in the temple to (A)Merikka we should have plenty. Otherwise, he'll have to make do with a altar and a set of golden wind chimes.

Hugh, from his vast experience as an initiate, knows that it is necessary to accumulate 8,000 gold coins for the materials for the smallest acceptable bell. Plus, there is the cost of casting and boring. There are many losses, to other surfaces and into dust too fine to easily collect, but usually 1,000 GP worth of gold slag can be collected after the bell is made.

Otto is against defiling one temple for the sake of another as is certainly the Mayor. Also we don't have time to wait for Hugh to build a temple. Once we have gotten answers out of the living and the dead we should head off again. BTW, whatever happened to Samantha? Did she ever come back? How far out of town did this hermit live?

We wouldn't necessarily be waiting for him...
But I think everyone would be against melting down the holy objects of Merikka. That temple needs to be resanctified and these people need to get back to farming.
Maybe they should also collapse those troglodyte tunnels and put like a fence around the village, with more dogs, to keep out nagas.
If they lived in the deep forest, like civilized folk, they wouldn't have these problems.
