Otto thanks all of the new adventurers for helping free the people of Orlane from the foul clutches of the snake god. As reward for their bravery they will each be given a share of the treasure as befits their rank. Otto, Hugh and Pfiffwin will each get a full share; Samantha, Ledonia, Claude, Adler, Florin, Frippi and Clift will each get a quarter share and a quarter share will be given to the Church of Kord in honor of Wendelain. Also he is certain that everyone will agree that the villagers of Orlane need help in this troubled time and offers a tenth of what we have recovered to support them.
Otto, Hugh, Pfiffwin and Samantha will be traveling to Longspear soon to meet up with the rest of the Company and everyone is welcome to join us as we travel south. The Company has plans to head into the Joten Mountains seeking to strike another crippling blow against the giant kind. This will be an arduous journey fraught with many perils and possibly great rewards. Of course I am sure the village would appreciate the help of anyone who chose to stay and help them.
Otto has directed Ledonia and Claude to patrol the area around the Rushmoors as well as help the elves and druids of the Oytwood in their fight. Eats Salmon will travel with them to the Great Tree of the Oytwood where they will work with Herbert. Anyone who wished to join them would be welcome.
Before we leave there are some matters involving the prisoners that need further discussions with the authorities of Orlane.

Florin thinks that Otto should stay in the Oytwood and aid the elves in their struggles against the rampaging forces of evil humanoids. They're an unbeatable team, elf and ranger; ranger and elf- and together, they will stand a much better chance of quelling the turmoil in the region.
Claude can join the Company in Longspear. He is a strong, doughty fighter.

Otto explains that his leadership is need against the giants but that he plans to return to rally the forces of the Oytwood once the giants have been defeated. Otto suggests that Florin could join Ledonia and Claude in the Oytwood where they can work with Herbert and Arden to protect the forest.

We can also have Hugh perform a few speak with dead sessions. We might be to question the dead monks as to who their contact is in Hochoch since that's where the other one was running to. The priests are also worth talking to since they seem to worship the snake god instead of Thurzadun.

The priests are also worth talking to since they seem to worship the snake god instead of Thurzadun. Normally that's a good idea, but: The townsfolk might not like the tortured wailing of the departed spirits we summon... They were already not entirely happy with Hugh's plan to mete out his own brand of lethal justice. Disturbing the rest of the souls of those we killed might not go over well. We don't want to be run out of town by pitchfork wielding peasants... Florin advises against.

We should hand over the prisoners to the authorities and tell them that Hugh, who is obviously the top priest in the area, will attempt to undefile the temple. If they leave us alone for a bit we can speak with dead in the maze underground. Purifying a temple might involve some weird moans, as the evil spirits are cast out, right?
What do we want to find out from the prisoners? -Who sent her here? -Where was she stationed before coming here? -When did the cannon turn to the dark side? -How was she paid? (It looked like giant coin, which is interesting) -What was she supposed to do here? -Does she have any contact with the mercenary bands around Geoff? -Does she know of the plot in Keoland involving the overthrow of King Scotti? -What does she know of Stalmin Klim?

Along with the magic items taken from the swamp - shortsword, shield and clerical scroll - Otto and Hugh are able to identify the following magic items from the temple: The platemail and spear of Donovan, the shield worn by Donovan's now deceased coworker, the leather armor worn by the assassin, and Abrammo's chainmail. Unfortunately Otto does not have Identify in his spell book or any pearls, so determining the actual power of anything will have to wait. Also the mayor claims the chainmail belongs to the temple but we may be able to come to an agreement for it. For now I would like to suggest the following division: - shortsword - Pfiffwin
- shield from swamp - Florin
- clerical scroll - Adler
- platemail - Claude
- spear - Hugh
- shield from temple - Frippi
- leather armor - Clift
Unfortunately none of the magic items are usable by magic users. Otto will put in a good word for Samantha to the senior mages once we rejoin the Company. He will make sure she is provided with whatever spells and training she needs.

Perhaps Frippi should get the scroll and Adler the shield? I don't think thieves can use shields while doing theifly things, can they?

Florin would request either magical armor, chain or plate. He would gladly sacrifice the magical shield.
His strength is very low and it would help, encumberance-wise.
Claude is very strong and thus not as hindered wearing non-magical armor. Also he is a 0 level man-at-arms...

Anyway since Adler shows more willingness to fight the shield would be better placed with him. Florin would request either magical armor, chain or plate. He would gladly sacrifice the magical shield. Frippi thinks this is typical behavior from bigguns, to leave the little people with nary a thing. After all, Frippi takes plenty of risks opening chests and investigating 3 ft. high passageways. As for combat, enemies are best fought from behind! Of course... a valuable naga figurine would be a good starting point for healing hurt feelings. Some gems wouldn't hurt either.

I find the distribution of treasures both fair and wise. Hugh, since you gots a nice magical spear now, can I borry your flamin sword for a bit? It'll help me win a bet at the bar.

I'd just like to point out that this is all a bit academic, since we haven't identified anything yet. Also, prior company precedent is that characters with multiple magical weapons loan out extras to those without them. Thus, Hugh's spear might be loaned out to a cleric of a different god who also has spears as a holy weapon. *cough, Adler*

The division of treasure will still occur regardless of whether or not the items are identified. And when it does, since the party is going to be splitting up into any number of smaller splinter parties, it would be nice to know where those items, identified or not, end up.

The Company of the Blue Sun and its retainers gather in the Golden Grain Inn, abandoned since the fight with Abrammo. In open expanse of its main room, plenty of space exists to spread goods and items about, stack and identify them. The sacks of goods that were carried back from the swamp are laid out, and the items gathered within town added to them. Otto and Hugh pray to their goddess and god and then identify several items from the accumulated armor and weapons, directing you to throw the others aside. The ones they have pointed to bear an enchantment. The pile of items is large.

While the others count and sort, Ledonia takes the bear back out towards the swamp. Otto and Hugh are drawn into a conversation with the Mayor, a conversation that seems to go poorly. Hugh steps in and out several times. The elves that accompany the Mayor leave and return, bringing with them an armored man and woman. The conversation doesn't seem to resolve, but rather ends with Mayor Zacharias shouting loudly enough to be heard through the door, "and if that's the way you feel about it, then we can all wait for the Reeve!" The Mayor storms out of the room, and the Golden Grain Inn, red-faced and puffing, his bodyguard trailing close behind.
Hugh and the elves question Misha Devi, the former priestess of Merikka. She claims that her goddess, the demoness Merrshaulk, has shown her the power of the serpent kingdom, that it is more powerful than the plants and growing things. It appears that once charmed by the naga, Misha rededicated herself to this new demoness and has been working her ill works for over a year now. Misha had been sent by her superiors in Gorna to aid the canon Abrammo, who was becoming more and more frail as he aged. This contrasts strongly with your experience of Abrammo as a capable priest-warrior, who, while older, was certainly not frail. Misha had done her devotions as a traveling priestess, visiting rural locations for nearly a decade before coming to Orlane and becoming blessed by the demoness. Abrammo was key in bringing her to see the scaly orbs of the demoness, and you infer that he must have been converted at an earlier date. Misha seems to have been closely involved with bringing the townsfolk and visiting merchants to see the demoness's avatars, who you assume are the nagas. Disturbingly, Misha claims that Merrshaulk has many avatars in the swamp, not one, nor two, nor even three. Misha claims a great brood lives there, and that Merrshaulk's reach through them is very very long. Beyond that, she has no answers for you.
Donavan, when pressed, gives forth the same answers that he gave before. He is a mercenary with little truck for the law. He was hired in Niole Dra by a man named Thomas Levane. Levane claimed his directions came from a powerful priest named Klim. Levane hired him to go to Orlane and speak with Abrammo, the priest there, and to do whatever was needed. Donavan met his fellow warrior here in Orlane. Donavan knows nothing about the naga, or any larger plans, and only arrived within the last two weeks.
The giant-sized coin had silence cast on it by Abrammo. Misha doesn't know how he got the coin. Donavan says Abrammo only rarely went out by himself, as he grew increasingly paranoid. Abrammo did meet the man in leather armor, Derek, here at the Golden Grain Inn, twice in the last two weeks.

Time to question the heads. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the assassin Derek is/was affiliated with the Black Lotus in Flen. He's quite likely the liason between Klim and Orlane. He should be asked where Klim is now and how he gets orders from him. We should also search for the mysterious box which Abrammo likely has which allows him to communicate with other priests when immersed in blood.
Question for the DM: Were we allowed to search Abrammo's room for notes and other items?
Also, we should see if Misha knows anything about the Dead God or if Abrammo ever talked about it.

Were those scrolls of Cure Light Wounds in the white scroll tube that Samantha found in the naga treasure?
Or are they different?
And what did you say to anger the Mayor? You didn't ask for the corpses of the people we killed to be made available to us for certain rituals, did you?

Clift is going to use his hero status, new armor and fat roll of cash to console the widows and try to repopulate the town with his bastard children. After that, he's gonna follow Otto and the gang to wherever they're going. Pfiffwin works for Otto, and he's so rich that he throws gems at people in the middle of a fight.

I have divided the treasure up among the party members. Feel free to swap items amongst yourselves. Note this is going to add 20 to 25 lbs of encumbrance to everyone because of the large amount of gold and platinum. Hopefully you can find something in this village to spend it on. We will likely be stopping in some large towns on the way to Longspear as well. Until we decide how we are going, there is no need to buy a horse. We may take the Javan part of the way if we can find a boat. | COUNT | GP Value | SUBTOTAL | Otto | | | | SNAKEHEAD AMULETS | 1 | 1000 | 1000 | SAPPHIRES | 1 | 500 | 500 | EMERALD | 1 | 450 | 450 | BANDED AGATES | 3 | 25 | 75 | LAPIS LAZULI | 1 | 10 | 10 | PP KEOISH | 113 | 5 | 565 | GP KEOISH | 67 | 1 | 67 | | | | 2667 | Hugh | | | | SNAKEHEAD AMULETS | 1 | 1000 | 1000 | SAPPHIRES | 1 | 500 | 500 | PERIDOT | 1 | 300 | 300 | JASPER | 1 | 200 | 200 | PP KEOISH | 120 | 5 | 600 | GP KEOISH | 67 | 1 | 67 | | | | 2667 | Pfiffwin | | | | EMERALD BRACELET | 1 | 1000 | 1000 | RUBY AND GOLD MEDALLION | 1 | 800 | 800 | GOLD NECKLACE | 1 | 250 | 250 | PP KEOISH | 113 | 5 | 565 | GP KEOISH | 52 | 1 | 52 | | | | 2667 | Samantha | | | | GOLD BRACELETS | 1 | 100 | 100 | OBSIDIAN | 15 | 10 | 150 | LAPIS LAZULI | 3 | 10 | 30 | PP GEOFFISH | 32 | 5 | 160 | GP KEOISH | 227 | 1 | 227 | | | | 667 | Florin | | | | GOLD BRACELETS | 1 | 100 | 100 | AZURITE | 15 | 10 | 150 | LAPIS LAZULI | 3 | 10 | 30 | PP GEOFFISH | 32 | 5 | 160 | GP KEOISH | 227 | 1 | 227 | | | | 667 | Adler | | | | GOLD ANKLET | 1 | 90 | 90 | LAPIS LAZULI | 5 | 10 | 50 | AZURITE | 14 | 10 | 140 | PP GEOFFISH | 32 | 5 | 160 | GP KEOISH | 227 | 1 | 227 | | | | 667 | Ledonia | | | | ELECTRUM NECKLACE | 1 | 75 | 75 | ZIRCON | 1 | 25 | 25 | LAPIS LAZULI | 19 | 10 | 190 | PP GEOFFISH | 32 | 5 | 160 | GP GEOFFISH | 217 | 1 | 217 | | | | 667 | Frippi | | | | SILVER NECKLACES | 1 | 50 | 50 | SILVER NECKLACES | 1 | 50 | 50 | RED AGATES | 2 | 25 | 50 | BANDED AGATES | 4 | 25 | 100 | LAPIS LAZULI | 4 | 10 | 40 | PP GEOFFISH | 32 | 5 | 160 | GP GEOFFISH | 217 | 1 | 217 | | | | 667 | Clift | | | | SILVER NECKLACES | 1 | 50 | 50 | ONYX | 2 | 25 | 50 | JASPER | 2 | 25 | 50 | BANDED AGATES | 4 | 25 | 100 | LAPIS LAZULI | 4 | 10 | 40 | PP KEOISH | 32 | 5 | 160 | GP GEOFFISH | 217 | 1 | 217 | | | | 667 | Claude | | | | SILVER NECKLACES | 1 | 50 | 50 | RED AGATES | 2 | 25 | 50 | CATS EYE AGATES | 3 | 25 | 75 | JASPER | 1 | 25 | 25 | BANDED AGATES | 2 | 25 | 50 | LAPIS LAZULI | 4 | 10 | 40 | PP KEOISH | 32 | 5 | 160 | GP GEOFFISH | 217 | 1 | 217 | | | | 667 | Wendelain | | | | GP KEOISH | 623 | 1 | 623 | GP GEOFFISH | 23 | 1 | 44 | | | | 667 | Orlane | | | | GP GEOFFISH | 191 | 1 | 212 | EP KEOISH | 600 | 0.5 | 300 | EP GEOFFISH | 470 | 0.5 | 235 | SP GEOFFISH | 4617 | 0.1 | 461.7 | SP KEOISH | 2302 | 0.1 | 230.2 | CP GEOFFISH | 12250 | 0.005 | 61.25 | | | | 1479.15 |

Question for the DM: Were we allowed to search Abrammo's room for notes and other items? The two elves, Llywillan and Dorian, accompany you up to the Temple, which is under guard by two older men in chainmail. Their rough hands and sunburned visages show that they are likely farmers, but they seem to be comfortable in their armored state. Either they have fought in the past or they have trained extensively in this gear. They have with them several of the temple dogs, who bark and snarl as you all approach. The Temple doors are blocked and barred. Dorian claims that the Temple is desecrated and must be reinvested by a Merikkan priest before it is used again. The Mayor has sent a rider to Hochoch, so hopefully a new priest will return in a fortnight. "We'll watch him closely," mutters Llywillan darkly. The elves escort only one person through the Temple at a time, apparently concerned about theivery or being overcome by the Company. Only Florin seems to gain their trust, and he is allowed to wander about in the worship hall unescorted. The Temple of Merikka appears, oddly enough, to be in decent shape, until things are closely inspected. A thin lair of grime and dust coats most surfaces. The symbols of Merikka, huge carrots, plump ears of corn, clusters of tall wheatstalks, and bunches of luscious grapes, both carved and actual, adorn most rooms, showing the care with which the Temple was originally made and the facade was maintained by the worshippers of the Snake Demon. Dorian, the more talkative of the elves, relates how several vile undead, skeletons, were found in one of the rooms off of the monks' quarters. While they were easily slain, it showed how badly despoiled the Temple was that unlife could thrive in its domain. Frippi, when searching through the library, finds that most of the books have been untouched long enough for dust to settle on them, but the largest, most ornate book in the room, has been defaced. Titled "A Most Worshipful Guide to Benign Merikka," it contains colorful paintains and illustrations, but many have been crudely defaced with what appears to be dried, brown blood. Otto, and later Hugh, both spot signs of goblinkind in the dirt of the hallway. Otto estimates that perhaps a dozen goblins were in the temple no later than a week earlier. Neither Dorian, nor the guards, claim to have seen goblinkind in the area, though both Dorian and Llywillan regularly ward against them in the Dim Forest to the north. The chamber of Abrammo shows the workings of an unbalanced mind. The walls of his chamber are scratched, stained, and covered with strange markings. Loose chips of stone lie scattered on the floor, where some object has battered against it. Meaningless gibberish has been scrawled on the walls of the room with soot and strange colored pigments. A dirty straw pallet sits on the floor, yet two soft and expensive armchairs rest at a low table. A beautiful robe hangs on the wall, while the floor is strewn with muddy rags. Hooks for tapestries line a rail at the ceiling, but nothing hangs from them now. "Used to have harvest scenes," says Llywilian, pointing at the hooks. An ornate desk sits in the corner. Adler, when looking at the desk, finds the surface of it to be covered in a light scoring. Dragging some of the soot from one of the lanterns across the desk, he finds the light wood is covered with scratfches, apparently made by ragged nails. Some of them form words or phrases, all jumbled on top of each other. "Snake mothers," "Semi-circle of damnation," "A crocodile has many teeth," "Eagle flew out of the night," "Their eyes are upon us," are the most coherent of the phrases. Dorian and Llywillan, while the Company had searched the tunnels under the Temple, had found a secret door in Abrammo's chamber. They show each member of the Company what lies beyond: A large, dirty room, with four crude granite statues and a fifth, polished jade figure of a snake with a female human head. The last is clearly set apart from the others in terms of craft. Near it is a small cage with iron bars. "Found the girl in that," spits Llywillan, his jaw clenching. "If you hadn't killed Abrammo, we would have done it, regardless of Zach being mayor and all." The jade figure is made of shades of violet, brown, and green jade, and is clearly valuable. While it doesn't radiate magic, it does display as deeply evil, as do the other four, unfinished statues. No strange boxes, notes, or other valuable items are located.
