As a transmutation wizard, Eustace can temporarily transform a single nonmagical object composed entirely of wood, stone (but not a gem stone), iron, copper, or silver into another one of those materials. For each 10 minutes he spends on this task, he can transform up to 1 cubic foot of material. Some questions: - When transforming something into wood or stone, can he choose the type (e.g. balsa, soft pine, mahogany, limestone, granite)?
- Is the time it takes to do the transformation determined by the overall dimensions of the object, or the volume of actual material? This makes a huge difference if transforming something hollow, like an iron box or a silver goblet.
- For small objects, 10 minutes per cubic foot can be really fast (it's only about a third of a second per cubic inch). So can he transform a small object as an action during combat? If so, what's the cutoff size for this? The amount he can transform in 6 seconds? Or alternatively, can he substitute however many seconds the transmutation takes for an equivalent fraction of his movement for the round?

1) Sure, within reason. 2) I'd say overall dimensions would keep it simpler. 3) Yes, whatever could be transmuted in 6 seconds sounds reasonable. Unfortunately movement cannot be substituted for action.
