Finally done with the High Temple of Set. We avoided a TPK but we definitely came out the worse for the adventure.
Colby: killed, burned, resurrected by order of Dragon Pharaoh
Friedrich: killed, converted to a wight, destroyed by Dan Mary: killed, converted to a wight, raised by Dan Finnious: feebleminded, healed by Dan Khonsu: killed, animated, destroyed, resurrected by order of Dragon Pharaoh Heart of Law: multiple deaths, multiple levels drained
Grimstone: unconscious, taken by pit fiend Tirian: level drained Youssef: level drained
Nordel: missing, presumed dead
Haidar: missing, presumed dead
Ahmed: missing, presumed dead
The rest of the party survived pretty much intact.
We picked up a couple of NPCs including Khonsu: Bakenmut: cleric Expert Smith/Samurai: new henchman for Finnious
The xp we gained probably doesn't offset the xp lost to level draining. The treasure we got probably doesn't offset what was lost when the ship was looted/fireballed.
I am ready to give Aegypt a big thumbs down and move along. Maybe when we are a couple levels higher it will be a fairer fight.
Do we try to discover what happened to our missing party members? Dan can use a Commune to get some information and we can try using the Crystal Ball to locate them.

I agree. Will the XP gain factor in the 3000 GP per person reward?
Commune could work. I think we could also use the Crown of Kings to follow the trail to Fizzi's tablet, assuming that was one of the items stolen. Getting that back would be a top priority. We have a decent idea where the demonologist lives, so maybe we could ambush him.
I think tracking him down is the last thing we should do here, and then bug out. The demonspore is still out there, but I'm also thinking more and more of fighting the Shadow Lord back in the forest kingdom. We're getting to the levels where some of us could set up strong holds, churches, wizard towers, etc, and Colby would like to get Mary, Youssef and Fin inducted into the White Wizards.

We glossed over room-by-room exploration of the Temple of Set, much of the loot gathering, talking to NPCs, etc. so as to resurrect everyone before the end of the session, in time to earn experience.
Also, I will admit I wasn't fully prepared for your strategic retreat to the White Tower, having based everything off either total victory for the party or TPK.
I need to recalculate the experience based on # of players present, resurrected PCs, the reward from the Temple of Thoth, monsters/bad guys that escaped and the treasure they took with them, etc.

I would say that leaving Aegypt sounds about right. Especially if we go through a five or six session fight that killed or incapacitated 90% of the party, lost most of our hoarded loot and no one gained a single level.
And Fin thanks Colby for the offer of joining the White Wizards but he'll pass. He's more of a Grayish-Black Wizard anyway. He's more interested in setting up a Thieves' Guild somewhere.

Colby completely understands that Fin is not ready to sign up. It took him a long time to finally come around. The oath will not require Fin to change any of his current practices. deadgreyhawk.proboards.com/post/11107

Fin's not much of a joiner, really. He also can't get behind the prohibition on Cloudkill, Polymorph Other and the like. He firmly believes there are always those richly deserving of death and disfigurement.

Dan will return the Bloody Scimitar and Youssef will give them the Serpent Ankh. They will send these items with Dariel and Haddiq. We will make sure Haddiq has the appropriate equipment for Colby and Khonsu (including spell books) before they teleport away.

Do we think it is worth using the Restoration scroll on Youssef or HoL? According to the description of the spell it only reverses a single level draining. This wouldn't really do much for either of them. If we do want to use it then we should ask the High Priest of Thoth to read it. Dan's chance to read it correctly is not great (50%).
BTW, I noticed that the casting of a Gate spell ages the caster by 5 years. We will have to remember that the next time a High Priest calls up a devil or demon or Son of Set. Make him roll a system shock - see how he likes it.

This wouldn't really do much for either of them. Restoration, being so rare and powerful, will restore an entire lost level of experience. It does not work off the staggered math of our house ruled level draining. Since nobody at this point is suffering 2 levels of energy drain, anyone who received the Restoration spell would be fully restored of all experience loss. BTW, I noticed that the casting of a Gate spell ages the caster by 5 years. We will have to remember that the next time a High Priest calls up a devil or demon or Son of Set. Make him roll a system shock - see how he likes it. In fairness, when the High Priest of Set cast Gate to summon the Son of Set, I did have one of you roll percentile dice as a system shock. Otherwise the clerics used the reverse of Abjure (UA, 4th level) to summon extraplanar allies. I posted experience and a summary. I'll post treasure today and start the threads for the split party.

And I gave some bonus XP for the extremely rare flying barbed devil. Oops.

Was it regenerating as well? I couldn't tell who was getting those d12's. Dariel would have so taken on those two pit fiends.

If Heart of Law is back up to 7, I think he's ok.

After Friedrich retired, Ahmed the Paladin is the replacement character he made. In hindsight, it was a good call!
