The trolls were placed on the board so they would be in the photos. Their positions may not be accurate. Some of them may have run into the stinking cloud. Especially if they were doing a charge. Also we didn't roll their attacks. They definitely did not charge, they were just advancing with the snake-guy Aphris to arrive at the end of the round. I figure depending on who they each go after (randomly determined) we'll see if it's reasonable for them to pass through the Stinking Cloud. More likely in the case of Mary & Friedrich. Less likely in the case of Finnious or Trommer. Murkey is flying and could be anywhere on the board at the end of the round. The demon teleported from his grasp on segment 5. Well, he's circling the area and it's easier to say he will end up in roughly the same spot at the end of the round rather than figure out how far he moves and use that stupid turning radius of flying creatures based on manueverability class table in the DMG. The demon flying dude who causes fear at will and has magic resistance, etc. did teleport away from Murkey. Note Grimstone's position is different in the second and third photos. He ran in fear last round. Odd inconsistency. He should be back by Harringdon and Haidar, cowering in fear. Should also note that's a feared hellhound directly left of Youssef, in front of that door.

Oh, yes, and I forgot to mention that Fin is completely out of range of any trolls, fighters, mages or other beasties. Just so you know.

That Hellhound in front of Youssef got caught in the cone of fear. It should be cowering and running as well.

According to the MM: Hell hounds are not normally from the material plane, but some few now dwell on it, having been brought along by various creatures who wished their evil service. Since they are extra-planar, shouldn't they be hedged by our PfE's? Or were these ones raised here?

Seems like the spell is pretty specific about which creatures from the Monster Manual are affected... and already way overpowered.
And in fairness, PfE only refers to enchanted, conjured or summoned creatures, not a blanket "extra-planar." Though I can't right now think of a circumstance when an extra-planar creature on the Prime Material Plane wouldn't be one of the three: enchanted, conjured or summoned.

PfE says "such as". I would argue that that means the list is not exhaustive. Note all of the creatures listed are extra-planar. Other extra-planar creatures in the MM: hell hound, larva, nightmare, titans.
BTW, what counts as an enchanted creature? Does that mean anything acting under the coercion of an Enchantment/Charm spell (e.g. animal friendship, charm person, charm mammal, snake charm, suggestion, confusion, friends, charm monster, fire charm, geas, charm plant, mass charm, hypnotism, emotion, mass suggestion, chaos) cannot attack a protected person? What about possession like Magic Jar or a ghost?

Other extra-planar creatures in the MM: hell hound, larva, nightmare, titans. That's a reasonable argument. If it makes you feel better these hellhounds can be from the Prime Material Plane. I fee like this 1st level spell is already way too powerful. And doesn't the text imply that aerial servants, demons, devils, djinn, efreet, elementals, imps, invisible stalkers, night hags, quasits, salamanders, water weirds, wind walkers, and xorn are "enchanted or conjured creatures"? While we're dissecting PfE language, I would argue that spells and at will effects should be able to target those in a PfE. Especially area of effect. "When this spell is cast, it acts as if it were a magical armor upon the recipient. The protection encircles the recipient at a one foot distance, thus preventing bodily contact by creatures of an enchanted or conjured nature..." I don't know how we've come to understand "preventing bodily contact" as the same as preventing a Magic Missile or a 60' cone of Fear. And why don't demons should get their Magic Resistance against it?

So unfortunately Trommer never got a choice of what to do. Merth's first swing did maximum damage dropping Trommer to zero and then the follow up swings dropped him deep into the negatives. Friedrich also died when he tried to take on the wizard and two other casters single-handedly. Other than that we pretty much won the battle.
The known remaining enemies are -Haffrung -female cleric (daughter of Avvakris?) -male magic user (apprentice of Haffrung?) -Lord Zor -Kranach the Fox -3 bears laden with dragon treasure -inhabitants of the Dark Tower
We are working on getting ready to assault the Dark Tower - sometime in the next 16 hours to 24 hours. We have access to a rod of resurrection and a scroll of raise dead. We could also try round tripping to Fizzi since we have Dariel here.
We have some questions for the few people who surrendered. We can also decide if we want to chase Lord Zor or Haffrung before they get to far or have a chance to rest. We have a lot of treasure to haul back to the ship or put in the White Tower. We still have most of the 3rd and 4th level to explore. We also need to coordinate with Holomir and any denizens of the White Tower who are joining the assault.

We should build a list of questions for our newly uncharmed ally. What's his name again?
What does the water wheel do? Where does Haffrung keep his magic jar, spell books, great loot, etc.? Who were his 2 companions? Is there a druid being held captive somewhere?

We should recover the body of the warrior that was trapped in the mud. If he was Haffrung's bodyguard then he might have some nice stuff. I suppose he could also be Sinstar the Sly (consort of Avvala).
We should also investigate the lab and other rooms for Haffrung's and the other magic users' spell books. Without them it will be harder for them to pose a threat. We have killed at least 3 magic users (guy with invisible orcs, guy with Haffrung first time we fought, and Shadrach). We will ask Tirian of Asalbar (fighter who surrendered) where they lived.

Once Paavo sleeps and gets 9th level. He can try the crown of kings if we need to find something (like Haffrung's magic jar or spell books). If he borrows a ring of protection he should only fail on a 1.
BTW, are there some rings which are like armor when it fails its saving throw? That is it will slowly heal itself. I thought we had made a house rule about that.

What's his name again? Tirian of Asalbar. What does the water wheel do? Not entirely certain.... the wizards were often puttering around it, taking notes. Where does Haffrung keep his magic jar, spell books, great loot, etc.? The top floor of Haffrung's aparments is the barracks for his bodyguards and the apartments of his apprentices, there's a kitchen and a well-stocked larder of rich food, (4 weeks for 15 people). Haffrung's lab and study was on the second floor - the bottom floor, now semi-collapsed, was a super-opulent suite full of silken cushions and soft rugs where Haffrung kept a number of fit, attractive, extremely dumb individuals (Gorm, Orson, Skelly and... a carnivorous ape he fancied... in a state of luxury/hedonism.
Tirian never saw any special looking jars... there are a bunch of books and scrolls in Haffrung's study & lab. As far as loot goes, the other warriors had "warchests" in their barracks. Tirian will be claiming his own. Who were his 2 companions? Avvala, daughter of Avvakris... the man was Dagda, Haffrung's #1 apprentice. Is there a druid being held captive somewhere? What few captives aren't sacrificed to Set or given to Haffrung's apprentices for experimentation are turned over to the demoness. Tirian of Asalbar was too strong-willed (already charmed) to succumb to her wiles, so he hasn't visited her lair but he thinks it's adjacent to the "old garden" on your map.
The known remaining enemies are -Haffrung -female cleric (daughter of Avvakris?) (Avvala) -male magic user (apprentice of Haffrung?) (Dagda) -Lord Zor -Kranach the Fox -3 bears laden with dragon treasure -inhabitants of the Dark Tower
Dariel will add the Type ? demon who got away.
Friedrich (-7, drowned in mud) is relatively intact.
Haddiq (-50, burned beyond recognition), Basmadoos (-33, rended limb from limb by apes) and Trommer (-28, eaten by a troll) are going to need something more than Raise Dead.
Recovery of Ingrid or Mamnoon will require more extraordinary measures.
Dariel will teleport to Entioch, deliver whatever the party wants and return. He is not one for waiting around however.
Holomir Goldheart is mustering a contingent of gnome warriors, Rosunn & Eomir the lammasu and Vishar, a storm giant... ("a member of a religious order of storm giants who willingly serve for a time in the holy shrines of men. He has been here since before the holocaust"((don't laugh)) for the assault on the Dark Tower.
Tirian of Asalbar will identify him as a fighter named Oph with a 2/1 attack routine who used a bastard sword. Anything of value is probably in his warchest - except his shield which was kind of nice.
Should note within 20' of the wheel the Transmute Rock to Mud is rapidly turning back to rock and the Wall of Ice is melted.
Berkam-Shem and Mervyn with the Elven Boots stayed in the apprentice suites above Haffrung.
Shadrock kept to himself, with the carnivorous apes and minotaurs over on the other side of the Dark Tower.
When making these calculations, keep in mind Paavo has a permanent -1 on his save vs. the Crown of Kings and PfE doesn't apply.
A ring of protection, like armor, can take a critical hit and heal itself over time. Also we gave them metal, hard designation for savings throws. But that's it.

Moram Infidelbane will add that he "knows the exact location of the three Mitraic artifacts".
The Ring of Mitra was with the cleric in the village above, fortunately the party acquired that.
The Eye of Mitra, a gold and topaz lion-medallion, is in the possession of Sinstar the Sly and his consort Avvala, who, unfortunately, fled into rat tunnels too small for the paladin to follow.
He found the Girding of Mitra very early on, after killing some giant lizards, and stashed the belt in a junk room so that the titan wouldn't take it from him. He never got a chance to go back for it, as he wound up teleported to a lower level and nearly overwhelmed by demons....

I calculate Paavo's save versus the Crown of Kings as 11: base save against spells for 9th level fighter +1: permanent penalty -2: paladin -2: fate reaver -3: 17 WIS (possibly -4 with 18 WIS at 9th level) -2: borrowed ring of protection =3 (or 2 with 18 WIS)

The Eye of Mitra, a gold and topaz lion-medallion, is in the possession of Sinstar the Sly and his consort Avvala, who, unfortunately, fled into rat tunnels too small for the paladin to follow. Sounds like a job for an ooze elemental. Or we could use an earth elemental and carve wider passages. Or Dariel could just save us the trouble. No rats will attack him. He can polymorph at will. He can go ethereal. Assuming there is no PfG he should make quick work of Sinstar the Sly (who "has a strange power over the rats in the dungeon", i.e. wererat). He could just find the guy and then teleport him to us or vice versa.

Paavo should ask the lamasu if they have the ability to bring back the dead. Trommer failed his reaction roll when he made the request. Where did the time line of attacking the dark tower come from? We should get the other mitra artifact and see what happens when one person wears all three. Let us not forget the Druid.

They have a rod of resurrection they will let us use. It can only be used once a day. We'll use that on Trommer given his extensive wounds. We will use Raise Dead on Friedrich. Assuming we can stay additional days after defeating the Dark Tower then we can use the rod of resurrection on Haddiq and Basmadoos.
The White Tower and/or Dariel were pushing for the accelerated timeline. Dariel won't stick around if we aren't fighting soon.

So we seem committed to using the Rod on Trommer, Haddiq and Basmadoos, as they cannot be raised. Friedrich can be brought back to life either with the Raise Dead scroll, the rod, or via teleport to Fizzi and back. That can be done by Dariel or by Mary casting Teleport. We should be able to cast Combine to successfully use the Raise Dead scroll, as long as we can get a gnome cleric to help.
Dariel is extraplanar, does he know anything about how we could help Mamnoon?

Can you use Combine with a scroll? In addition to gnome priests, we also have the priest in the village and the priest with the caravan and of course Haidar.

Reading the Combine description, you need 3 clerics. One to stand in the middle and 2-4 to form a circle around him. For the purpose of spell casting, the guy in the middle is higher level. I see no reason that shouldn't apply for scroll reading.

Paavo will subject Tirian of Asalbar to 10 minutes of Dispel Magic to make sure the charm is gone for good.
We'll go with him to collect the war chests, as well as investigate Haffrung's and the apprentices' rooms. Youssef will provide a Detect Invisible and Dan will provide a Find Traps. We'll also investigate Shadrach's room. Grimstone can search for secret doors and traps as well.
