I was going to say that Colby memorized Feather Fall before teleporting, in case he came in too high, but I guess we're good. He also closely studied the area we've been staying to facilitate teleporting back there.
Colby will bring his traveling spellbooks/tablets/ostracons as well as the Perfect Iron Circle Magic book and Iz Omazzi's book. He'll leave behind the time reversal ring, which isn't charged anyway.

Colby will start off sharing spell books with Sherlane. He'll bring 10 spell inks from our stock, since it seems a shame if they have a bunch of spells that I can't copy.

On arrival at Sherlane's, Bolo expresses polite greetings to his host and whatever other members of the household are present. He remarks on how pleasant it is to be back in Devonshire and to be reacquainted with old friends. He thanks Sherlane for his hospitality and for his generosity in providing safe storage of the party's belongings. He requests the use of washing and laundry facilities. He comments that spending months in the desert tends to play havoc with personal hygiene.
Unless there are other niceties to observe, Bolo will set off at the first polite opportunity to conduct some private business in town. He assumes that Colby will also be busy for the next few days, so he will arrange a rendezvous with Colby for the return teleport - whatever day and time Colby prefers is fine with Bolo.
In town, Bolo will purchase some local clothing to replace his flowing desert robes. He assumes that continuing to wear the robes would otherwise make him rather conspicuous in these parts. Bolo doesn't like conspicuous.
There is a gold chain that has been on Bolo's character sheet for some time. He polishes it carefully with his jewelry polish and polishing cloth, appraises it to the best of his ability, and sells it at a jeweler. His old buddy Henri, if available, otherwise whoever.
Are there halflings in Devonshire who might be interested in being henchmen and/or hirelings?

Additional Bolo private business - by email to DM. Colby will advise Bolo that he'd rather not press his luck trying to teleport to and from jail. Colby will inform Bolo that he has ways of contacting him and learning about his whereabouts, so don't worry about coordinating travel.

Note there is very little room in any of his books for additional spells. You may want to bring the second new full spellbook. Also don't forget to take some money for incidental expenses - 2000 gp in gems should cover things. BTW, I think we are going to give out around 8000 gp to each party member. We'll do an accounting later to determine what is party expense and what is an individual expense.

Sherlane used to provide us with spell books at cost, if I recall correctly, so I'll ask him whether I should buy one, if I get one as a signing bonus, or what.

Colby will advise Bolo that he'd rather not press his luck trying to teleport to and from jail. Bolo certainly has no intention of going anywhere near a jail. Nasty smelly places, jails. With bad food. Colby will inform Bolo that he has ways of contacting him and learning about his whereabouts, so don't worry about coordinating travel. Bolo remarks that in certain circumstances, certain people may prefer not to know certain things. As to coordinating travel, he says "OK, see you later then."

Would Colby be willing to teleport to the shadow mage's abode so Friedrich can get his shadow back?
Also, Friedrich would like to use the dex +1 ion stone (if that's what it is) as it would help him a lot.
What spell should MT learn? Any suggestions?

Was Mary with us when we visited the shadow weaver? If so, she can teleport Friedrich there. I'm fine with giving Friedrich the ioun stone. Is Trommer's DEX 17 or 18?

HAHA! And, IIRC correctly Mr. T just recently hit 18 dex. FWIW, I'm fine with Bolo and Nordell getting whatever treasure share the party thinks is fair. Bolo did pick those three locks.

Maybe it is easier to Teleport along a ley line and doubly so where they intersect. The ley lines somehow focusing the attempt. Mary could use some scrying (Scry, Clairvoyance, Crystal Ball) to get a better view of the shadow weaver's house. Maybe a Sending first to let her know you are doing it. It wouldn't be the best way to do a Teleport. But then I am much less worried about this than Colby. I am fine with Friedrich getting the +1 ioun stone. It won't be of any use to my characters. Note he gets another % roll as a result of being restored to 9th level. How far is he from increasing this stat to 18 naturally? Mary could try learning Cloudkill (if allowed), Feeblemind (good against M-U), or Telekinesis. If none of those appeal ask the DM for a utility spell. We have Cone of Cold and Firebreath already for damage. Here are some cool spells Lower Resistance and Trap Lore. In fact a lot of the Abjurations on that site would be useful. Alternatively she could pick up a lower level spell or two e.g. Dimension Door, Enchanted Weapon, Phantasmal Force, Infravision.

Another alternative for getting Friedrich to the Shadow Weaver. Mary teleports with Friedrich to Devonshire. She polymorphs into a pegasus and flies Friedrich to the Shadow Weaver. According to the map it is about 180 miles from Devonshire to Dunthrane. And the Shadow Weaver's house is closer. A pegasus can cover 180 miles in (exactly!) 11 hours flying at 48". Mary can memorize Polymorph Self 3 times, each which last for 18 turns. Flying mounts can only fly for 3 hours (DMG p 50) at a stretch so that works out perfectly. So in a little over a day they would reach the Shadow Weaver. They then teleport back to the ship. Alternative 2. Friedrich goes with Colby and Bolo. He takes the flying carpet. Traveling at 42" it would cover the 180 miles in 12.5 hours. That is an easy one day trip. And nothing but a pegasus can catch him. He flies back the next day. Heck there may even be time to visit Fenhold. It is about half the distance from Devonshire. Both take about the same time. The second alternative does not require extra teleports but then Friedrich is on his own. I am not worried about him getting hurt. I am worried he would piss off Sionyl or in someway mess up things. Mary could also start by Teleporting to Fenhold. They spend a little time there. It takes 2 days to fly to the Shadow Weaver. And then they teleport back.

I think Colby could get down to 4000 GP encumbrance through using Reduce spells. That would be 12000 GP reduced by 1/3. Colby, Bolo and Friedrich can't weigh more than that, although the carpet does weigh a lot.

No, he isn't. One round-trip teleportation per resting period. Speaking of... before the party can be made of aware of goings-on in Devonshire, we have to make sure Colby survives the return trip: Do knowing about ley lines help with Teleport? Maybe it is easier to Teleport along a ley line and doubly so where they intersect. The ley lines somehow focusing the attempt. Ley lines, points of power and planar pathways were the focus of that arcane treatise... which Colby is the only one in the party to have successfully read. Ley lines are the world-spanning conduits by which teleportation is even possible. Random fluctuations in the magical weave are responsible for catastrophic high/low Teleport failure. Teleporting into a "node" of ley lines or other point of power is usually impossible due to magical interference and another reason these sites are so prized by spellcrafters. At the location of a "planar pathway" one could theoretically use the Teleport spell to Plane Shift. It wouldn't be the best way to do a Teleport. But then I am much less worried about this than Colby. I know and it is a source of much amusement. I am fine with Friedrich getting the +1 ioun stone. It won't be of any use to my characters. Note he gets another % roll as a result of being restored to 9th level. How far is he from increasing this stat to 18 naturally? Dwarves cannot exceed 17 dexterity without magical means. That might clinch the Ioun stone for Friedrich... The spell exists but its use is considered chaotic/evil on account of the moral repugnance inherent to the use of gas and chemical weapons... I have this spell. It is permitted. Though it's one of those spells where I can't really imagine someone having it memorized at a time when it is actually needed. This one is ridiculous and will never exist. I bet there's a 7th level spell in 3rd edition that not only finds and removes all the traps in the dungeon, but neatly stacks and counts all the treasure for you as well. Dimension Door, Enchanted Weapon Can Colby retrieve the arcane treatise from Sherlane while he is there? Youssef would like to study it. Not a problem. The book is a bit more weathered and dog-eared than Colby remembers. Apparently Sherlane lent it around to his colleagues. I'm clocking a pegasus' rate of travel at 16mph so that's accurate. I give some leeway with these calculations anyway. Flying mounts can only fly for 3 hours (DMG p 50) at a stretch so that works out perfectly. Not exactly. Also not the way to increase henchman morale... I think Mary would object to being forced to act as a mount for a prolonged period of time. And while Mary is trained in aerial riding, Friedrich is not. Emphasis added. As long as the weight allowance is not exceeded, which doesn't seem to be a problem with supplementary spells. I need to know definitively who is going to Devonshire and what the exact plan will be before I can actually post what happens...

Colby has enough spells to not only reduce the characters, but separately reduce the carpet, so the weight shouldn't be an issue for Colby to bring Bolo and Friedrich. He'll then loan Friedrich the carpet.

[glow=blue,4,300]TELEPORTING[/glow][glow=red,4,300]TELEPORTING[/glow][glow=purple,4,300]TELEPORTING[/glow]Reduced in size; Colby, Bolo and Friedrich (toting the colorfully-woven flying carpet) successfully Teleport, appearing outside Sherlane's manor. Colby coordinates their travel so as to arrive not only during daylight hours, but also just as the Reduce spells are about to expire, saving a few embarrassing explanations. The weather is positively dreary compared to sunny Pentadastion and seems unseasonably cool for this time of the year (mid-July). No doubt a lingering effect of the magical winter brought on when the Silver Princess played the crystal Harp of Winter. The hill overlooking Devonshire provides a decent vantage of the bustling town. The sound of horses and metal clanging off metal carries on the breeze. A short, muddy trek sees the trio to Sherlane's front door unchallenged. Kaerin the Arm-master seems very pleased to see our heroes returned to Aldagmor in its time of need. Ushering the three into the manor, he leads them into the parlor which is both comfortable and familiar. After a long interval Sherlane arrives. Pleasantries are exchanged, Sherlane extending extreme courtesy to the Dwarf-Lord of Fenhold and nodding with polite interest at whatever Bolo has to say. ________________________________________ BoloUnless there are other niceties to observe, Bolo will set off at the first polite opportunity to conduct some private business in town. The area outside Devonshire is an armed camp. Large troops of peasant soldiers with crude polearms and farm implements march in ragged formations, drilling alongside blue-liveried Church soldiers and men-at-arms wearing the green & black fleur-de-lys of Alderweg. In town, Bolo will purchase some local clothing to replace his flowing desert robes. There seems to be a limited selection but Bolo can find some non-descript clothes in his size. There is a gold chain that has been on Bolo's character sheet for some time. He... sells it at a jeweler. His old buddy Henri, if available, otherwise whoever. Many of the well-to-do shops appear closed, the shopkeepers either having fled or been conscripted by the Baron. Are there halflings in Devonshire who might be interested in being henchmen and/or hirelings? No luck, most sensible halflings having retreated to their hollows during these times of hardship. Additional Bolo private business - by email to DM. Change of plan... While Bolo is investigating the availability of halfling hirelings, he stumbles into a couple familiar faces: Bodie Broadus and his goon squad. They flash concealed crossbows. Seems Stringer Bell is very interested in speaking to his friend Bolo. His friend who left town in such a hurry after their last deal and who the Guild hasn't heard a peep from in over eight months and who just happens to show up right now, out of nowhere. DM emailing response. ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ColbyColby will start off sharing spell books with Sherlane. I guess that's better than pleasantries. He will gladly take the time to copy any new spells (pretty much anything the party obtained after The Palace of the Silver Princess) assuming Colby isn't in a big hurry. He frowns over Hovering Skull and Summon Shadow. When Sherlane skims the book of Perfect Iron Circle Magic he seems duly impressed. He'd like to bring it to Castle Whitestone to share with the group. It doesn't sound too much like a request. After copying spells he'll need a little time to sort out transportation and can depart immediately as long as Colby is ready to go. ________________________________________ ________________________________________ FriedrichNeed the player of Friedrich to "push the button" and at least affirm whatever course of action the party agrees his character is taking. ________________________________________ To keep organized I'm going to separate different locations into different threads.

How many goons are with Bodie? Where is Bolo when he encounters them? In an inn? In the street? Several. They catch Bolo as he steps out of a tavern during his hunt for halfing hirelings/henchmen. There's a big guy on either side of the door ready to grab Bolo if he makes a move and three more guys with crossbows in case he jets, they're acting casual but clearly within point-blank range. Bodie is leaning on a lamp post, one hand inside his cloak. Seeing Bolo assess the situation, Bodie says, "Don't make this harder than it has to be. He just wants to talk to you."See email response as well. Solo adventuring is not without its perils.

He goes with them.
