Well if we survive most people will level up.
In retrospect I think we should have done several things differently: -distributed holy waters to anyone without a +1 weapon; -staked the vampire spawn; -stayed on the path offered by the magic of the pearl crown (it would have helped navigate the Pit); -faced the forces of the huntsmen with our elven allies; assuming they don't have any magical support we would have mopped them up. now we have to worry about them coming to the aid of the things in the pit or harrying us when we leave. assuming we would have beaten the huntsmen then we would have had the elves with us in the Pit.

Any ideas about how to thaw out Finnious? Bolo offers the use of a tallow candle he has in his backpack, but even with his 8 wisdom, he realizes that this method would likely be rather slow. As a faster alternative, he suggests a fireball spell, but on this point he defers to Colby and Mary Tanner regarding range safety.
Is Finnious conscious inside the ice? Can we communicate with him, either the normal way or if necessary via the helm of telepathy?
Can we drill into the other side of the ice in such as way as to put a stake through the vampire without letting him free first?
Bolo and Danakes both mutter something about wanting to take an eight-hour nap as soon as circumstances permit, but they admit that the current circumstances do not.

How does holy water work? I believe Bolo actually has some, but he didn't know what to do with it. Can it be thrown at undead?
Bolo also has some garlic. How is that used against undead?
Now that Bolo has seen how the glass beads work, he wishes he had used one earlier, perhaps against the cleric encampment, and definitely sooner against the vampires. To live is to learn ...

If you successfully hit undead with holy water, it does 2d4 damage, or something like that. I think it might do 1d4 on the subsequent round, or something like that. You could either throw the flask or try to douse him with it. I'm not sure what the differences in a chance to hit would be.

Area of Effect: 1' diameter Damage: Splash- 2HP / Direct Hit- 2-7HP (1d6+1) Range: The range of all such container missiles is 3". Beyond 1" is short range, beyond 2" is long with -2 and -5 to hit respectively. Hits: When the die roll indicates the missile has hit, then it is necessary to roll again to see if the container shatters or not. Does someone want to try to read the mind of the frozen vampire with our Helm? Since the three vampires all came from different directions and all have the ability to become gaseous, I can't imagine we'll have luck following their tracks.
Any other ideas, than to just keep exploring? Assuming we can kill the frozen vamp relatively quickly.

My hope is that the side passages lead to the coffins of the respective vampire spawn. If so then it should be quick to dispatch the two we defeated. With the frozen one we should just wait and gang attack it when it becomes exposed. It will likely escape using gaseous form though.
Assuming Katrina, Cathbad or the vampire spawn did not go far it should be possible to read their thoughts with the helm. That should give us some idea of what they are up to.

Is there a risk that using the helm to read the thoughts of the vampire (et al.) might expose the wearer to an attack of some sort, e.g. being charmed?
I believe Bolo is carrying a potion of gaseous form. One of us could drink that and follow Katrina through the "new brick" wall. I'm not sure this is a great idea -- it sure didn't work out so well for Bolo the last time he tried exploring the Pit solo -- but it's worth thinking about at least.

Is there a risk that using the helm to read the thoughts of the vampire (et al.) might expose the wearer to an attack of some sort, e.g. being charmed? You cannot sense it with the Helm of Telepathy. Undead are immune to mind-affecting magic and were you to actually read their vile thoughts you'd either go insane or die.

I was thinking Trommer, who's already charmed, or Paavo, who's functionally immune to charm, would do it.
And do you know who could walk through that wall? A summoned Earth Elemental! I've got a scroll I'm itching to use, and it even has a slight chance of not killing me in the process.

Note you will need a turn to use the Conjure Elemental scroll. So if you want to use it I would say start reading now. We could also use it to knock this evil tree down. How much structural damage can a tree take?
That reminds me: we should have some people check out the wyverns' nests - treasure type E.

Can we drill into the other side of the ice in such as way as to put a stake through the vampire without letting him free first? Good idea. How about if we heat the head of Trommer's spear and then drive it through the ice into the vampire's chest when we can see the vampire getting close to the surface. The wooden shaft of the spear should act like a stake to keep the vampire paralyzed. Once the vampires are staked we can either drag them out into the sunlight (it was getting close to sunset) or try cutting off their heads and filling their mouths with holy salts (which Dan and Paavo have). Salts aren't quite the same as holy wafers but I think the effect should be the same. (Do you think holy salts mixed with iron rations equals holy wafers?) Holy wafers are a nod to Christian religions; so the equivalent for our D&D religions should work. BTW, that reminds me that if Colby casts conjure elemental then he can use a ring of the holy salts to keep the elemental at bay if he loses control of it. Assuming Paavo is not standing nearby. FYI, holy salts do the same damage as holy water when thrown at undead. The range is very short (~ 5'). Note if added to water it makes holy water. The encumbrance is of course much less.

If the brick wall that the princess effused through is new construction, do you think that means the structure would survive having the wall knocked down by an earth elemental? It would be the easiest way to chase her down.

By the time we track down the princess and free the prisoners we will surely be out of sunshine until morning. Or are you suggesting that we exit the pit to take care of the vampires before pursuing the princess and the prisoners?

By the time we track down the princess and free the prisoners we will surely be out of sunshine until morning. Or are you suggesting that we exit the pit to take care of the vampires before pursuing the princess and the prisoners? We are less than two full moves away from the entrance. I would be willing to let the princess go for now and make sure we destroy the vampires we can. Once back at the entrance maybe we can determine where the priests went. We kind of rushed in to the place to make sure Bolo was okay.

We kind of rushed in to the place to make sure Bolo was okay. Sounds good to me. Bolo is very glad he is okay. He appreciates the rescue and admits that coming into the pit on his own was unwise. He has done many unwise things in his life, and he supposes he will do many more. As he puts his armor back on, he sighs and looks wistful. If he hadn't done so many unwise things as a youngster, he might not have ended up in this career ... he might not have spent all that time cooped up by that nasty sphinx ... he might be in his granny's comfy little hole instead of this nasty dank pit full of vampires. (On the other hand, he reckons the loot is better here.)
