8/14 experience totals:
Paavo: 38319 --Dan: 2999 Friedrich: 57757 Trommer: 59070 Colby: 59295 |10746 Danakes: 8245 Bolo: 8144 Ingrid: 12999 /17788 Marcus: 31587 Epicaste: 17932 Danaus: 16487
Benesarion's house has been completely ransacked, furniture overturned, papers scattered. Most of the books on the shelves removed, except for some basic reference materials and the following titles:
Famous Nobles of the Barony An Accounting of the Old Empire's Minor Poets
Detecting magic turns up only a life sized copper statue of a fat cat with amber eyes, covered in dust and cobwebs.

We will check the books for any scraps of paper or other indications that they hold information in addition to their outward appearances. Given how many books were in his collection someone must have carried them away in a cart or using some large humanoids (or using magic). I'll ask Trommer and Danakes to check for any signs of how the books were transported away and what direction they went.
Is the cat statue similar to the one we found in Ulsamaran (and ended up giving to the sphinx)? I will try stroking it to see if it purrs. I will hold onto it for safekeeping.
Can you repeat the information Paavo learned through the use of the pearl crown about Benesarion's location? Do I get a sense of distance? Or just direction and picture.
Maybe Trommer should use the pearl crown. Rangers (at 10th level) have an affinity with some detection devices.
I'll scan the area for any other signs of evil. If there are bodies of the villagers we will burn them (don't want any undead armies).
Sounds like Cathbad may be alive and kicking and causing problems again.

I think we traded him the cat for information or some other service, didn't we?

Yep.
It seems a little odd that Benesarion would have been a target for anyone. He studied ancient civilizations, which until we came around, were lost in the mists of times. As far as we have seen there have been no connections between those civilizations and the current problems in Aldagmor. So I can only surmise that the connection to us (or Lord Sherlane) was the cause of this attack.
I think we should make haste to Lord Sherlane to apprise him of the situation before heading out to free the old man. Unfortunately that probably means forgoing training. What good person would allow someone to be held against their will while they leisurely trained?

We will check the books for any scraps of paper or other indications that they hold information in addition to their outward appearances. Famous Nobles of the Barony is an illuminated text, with renderings of the famous nobles of Aldagmor. It is 50 years out of date... notable entries include: Count Alderweg The Baron of Aldagmor Lord John O'Crewet Lord Oliver Fengreve An Accounting of the Old Empire's Minor Poets is a dusty old tome that, as you would imagine, lists the minor poets of the Old Empire and their works, inside of which is a scrap of parchment that says: "For Life the Darkness, For Death the Day Secrets of the Blackrod Say" Given how many books were in his collection someone must have carried them away in a cart or using some large humanoids (or using magic). I'll ask Trommer and Danakes to check for any signs of how the books were transported away and what direction they went. As I said, there are still basic reference materials; large encyclopaedic works that cover the basics: physical sciences, philosophy, magic theory, etc. The rudiments of sage-craft. As well as those two specific volumes. Everything else was taken. You figure couple guys like Trommer could have hauled off the rest in large sacks, though some of the scrolls and tablets seemed fragile. We'll roll to check for tracks at the next session. Is the cat statue similar to the one we found in Ulsamaran (and ended up giving to the sphinx)? I will try stroking it to see if it purrs. I will hold onto it for safekeeping. Yes, similar, but posed differently. It purrs. We'll make a Post-It. I think we traded him the cat for information or some other service, didn't we? Her. Can you repeat the information Paavo learned through the use of the pearl crown about Benesarion's location? Do I get a sense of distance? Or just direction and picture. To the north-northeast, in a dark place, dank and dreary. The distance is hard to gauge actually, but he gets a sense of the journey, but oddly, as if he has already made it. Paavo is certain he would know how far to proceed once he set out after what it is he sought. And then his mind is drawn toward somewhere else, a familiar place from some half-remembered dream... And then he takes the crown off. I'll scan the area for any other signs of evil. If there are bodies of the villagers we will burn them (don't want any undead armies). No signs of evil, aside from the massacred village... Fewer bodies than you would expect, as if some had fled or been taken. Marcus reminds you that the wizard Feldspar was all about some ancient civilizations before you guys hit the scene.

Marcus reminds you that the wizard Feldspar was all about some ancient civilizations before you guys hit the scene. Good point. I guess we aren't necessarily to blame for his disappearance. Still it would be good to recover him and his papers to help fill in some missing information. We'll take the two books as well. As time permits we can compare the doggerel in the poetry book to the text of prophecies we have previously found. Also we can read about the noble people and/or their ancestors that we have encountered in our travels. Not all of us were born in Aldagmor. I'm particularly interested in Count Alderweg and his vassals.

Keep in mind that we now possess the star chart that Feldspar spent months trying to reconstruct using the magic mask in the cave.
I know we want to rescue him ASAP, but let's not go off half-cocked (and untrained!). If we're fighting an army of vampires, having powered up clerics will be extremely helpful. Marcus, Epi and Daneus can also train for double specialization, which will be crucial.

If you get level drained then you won't need to train.

If Lord Sherlane is unable to train Colby then Colby should use Feldspar's lab as his base for training. Feldspar's lab was already stocked with much of the stuff he will need to training. That way he can ask a question of the Masque each day.
Do you think you could ask the Masque something like "What were all of the questions asked by Feldspar to you, and corresponding answers provided to Feldspar by you?" Or how about "What were all of the questions ever asked of, and the corresponding answers provided by, you?"

I'm going to assume that our game on Sunday won't be interrupted by the devastation wrought by yesterday's earthquake?

Hopefully it just ends up a rainy day.
If we get 100mph winds and power outages and flooding we'll most likely cancel. I guess check your email Sunday morning!
