Looking back on it, we probably should have first all lobbed oil Molotovs at the orc chief and his henchmen, then started hacking and slashing. Probably we would have had a few more of us on our feet at the end of it. Also, agree that we could use more cleric power -- assuming it's pretty hard to glom onto healing potions/scrolls.

Thinking back, we probably all would have been fine had we not entered the room. Our two fighters could have stood in the doorway and fought the bad guys as they came, denying them the advantage of surrounding us.

Questions for the DM regarding the world/campaign: 1. Are magic items, potions or scrolls available for purchase? 2. How do magic users go about acquiring new spells other than adventuring? 3. Are there any Academies or Schools where magic is studied? 4. Are there Orders of Knight? 5. Are there any major "current events" we should be aware of? For example, large scale invasions, kingdoms falling, holy wars, etc.

I'll post some general information about the campaign world at some point - gazetteer style. 1. Are magic items, potions or scrolls available for purchase? From individual merchants, apothecaries, witches, hedgewizards, alchemists, etc. but not major retailers. 2. How do magic users go about acquiring new spells other than adventuring? Apprenticeship, trade, research/study of magical phenomena, supernatural/extraplanar entities, etc. 3. Are there any Academies or Schools where magic is studied? In the south, the College of Arcane Sciences is one of the few institutions to survive the fall of the Old Empire and its ivory towers still grace the Imperial City. There is rumored to be a council of mages, comprised of the more powerful magic-users in the land, but they operate mostly behind the scenes. 4. Are there Orders of Knight? There are several such orders belonging to the Church. Most knights are indepedent agents, sometimes serving as vassals to various lords, sometimes lords themselves. Really, any villain can paint his shield black and call himself a knight. 5. Are there any major "current events" we should be aware of? For example, large scale invasions, kingdoms falling, holy wars, etc. There's always talk of invasion from the east by the Denagöthic tribes and their Beast-Men "allies," but that's mostly talk.

Cool. The more information about the world the better.

Did you hear that Dana? Molotovs!!

I was looking for a good Finnish surname for Paavo and I came across this site gaminggeeks.org/Resources/KateMonk/. Looks like a nice source of names if you are looking for a specific nationality or region.
