After you spend a few rounds healing the injured, you note the pumpkin-headed/scaled, wire-bearded corpse has mysteriously disappeared, though the other corpses are still present, twitching.

The undead were headed away from the valley of the fallen jarls. Do we want to try to determine where they were headed with all of those digging implements? Or do we want to head into the valley immediately?

We should ask Gregors if he knows of any cemetery in that direction, or if he can think of something they might have been trying to dig up.

After you spend a few rounds healing the injured, you note the pumpkin-headed/scaled, wire-bearded corpse has mysteriously disappeared, though the other corpses are still present, twitching. Are there tracks? Or has the corpse dissolved/melted/disintegrated? There are no tracks. We should ask Gregors if he knows of any cemetery in that direction, or if he can think of something they might have been trying to dig up. Gregers wants only to get indoors. The custom of his people is to bury the dead beneath cairns or to inter them in caves, preferably sealed. He doesn't know where this dorf, Jokumscrag, he calls it, lays out their deceased. He's happy to look around with you for it...once it's light. The undead were headed away from the valley of the fallen jarls. Do we want to try to determine where they were headed with all of those digging implements? Or do we want to head into the valley immediately? Gregers is willing to follow your lead, once it is daylight. His torch seems to have burnt itself out exceedingly quickly, and he is very jumpy being bathed in your magical light sources. Gregers reminds you that the Valley of the Sleeping Jarls is still another full day's march into the hills and then up Three Horn Mountain. Assuming nothing horrible happens, he expects to reach the Valley of the Sleeping Jarls just before sunset tomorrow evening.

Yay, 3rd level.
Wandering off in the direction the undead were headed (away from our goal) in the hopes of finding out what they were up to seems counter-productive.
We should go to the Valley of Jarls and vanquish the Evil at its source. That'll probably stop the undead from roaming the countryside.

So Cullen makes arrangements through a third party, working for a fourth party, working for a fifth party. The fourth party is looking for incompetent warriors. The fifth party is looking for skilled warriors.
The fifth party is the Jarl of Jarls, Ingvar, who wants us to succeed in our mission.
The fourth party is Hemming, who wants us to fail so his champions can attempt to cleanse the Jarl Valley.
Right?

That is how I read it. This is all so Hemming can show how weak Ingvar is and force Ingvar off his throne. I am not sure if this meanings that Hemming will try to ensure that we fail either before or after we encounter the Evil. We will certainly make some enemies if we succeed.

We should think about what side we want to be on when we complete the mission. We might want to tell Ingvar about Hemming's attempts to subvert his jarl's plan. As I see it, the Ingvar can get us a boat to take us home, so we can directly side with his clan.

I've dumped my text into Week 14. Edit it as you'd like.
