Here is a partial summary of the events today.
After defeating a band of hobgoblins we take refuge in a cave, hoping to be able to question one of the prisoners. We are attacked by more stirges which manage to kill one of the two remaining hobgoblins before we can kill them.
Instead of adventuring further that afternoon we prepare to rest overnight in the cave. While Rensslaer is preparing traps outside the cave Kazan sees a giant horned lizard. They both make a mad dash back to the cave and the lizard passes by.
We set up camp inside the cave using branches to block off one of the passages from the bats that inhabit other parts of the cave. After the first watch the prisoner revives and is questioned by Morvan with the help of the Friend spell. It isn't the most effective spell but we learn that there is a hobgoblin king by the name of Gral Dragonslayer that plans to attack the humans on the far side of the river.
In the morning we leave the hobgoblin bound and unconscious in the cave and continue working our way through the woods looking for a route to the ruins. We follow one path to a large clearing that contains a couple of giant ants. On the recommendation of the priest of Bralm we leave these alone.
The next clearing reveals a well maintain cottage in which two old women live. Bella and Linda(?) offer us tea. They seem to be able to handle themselves perfectly well amongst the monster in the middle of the woods. They offer to give us a map and information about the ruins for 150 gp. Since we don't have the funds they offer to give us the information if we kill the mean ogre that lives just done the path.
Off we go looking for the ogre. We find a cave with a large door that is barred from the inside. There is the noise of beatings happening on the far side of the door. We manage to break the door down and discover two smallish ogre hitting each other with clubs.
Basil, Ren and Kazan rush forward to attack. Ren is knocked unconscious in the first round as both of the kid ogres beat on him. Basil makes quick work of one of them while Kazan retreats in an attempt to lure the other out of the cave. This only partially works but it gives a chance for everyone else to surround it and take it down.
We move into the cave with Kazan carrying a torch to light the way. We move down several passages attempting to map of the caverns. After a couple of minutes we find 6 goblins in one of the rooms. They yell for help and flee. We cut down half of their number before the father ogre arrives.
The ogre concentrates his fury on Zinc but in his haste to smash Zinc he manages to only do 1 point of damage. The rest of party surrounds him and are able to kill him before his mate arrives. She too is no match for the combined forces of the party.
Healing spells are doled out to those injured in the combat and we begin to search the caves.
