I vote for staying with the archeological dig. We can chase down the ogre lair after we haul those that survuve the dig back to town so that they can rest.

I vote for staying with the archeological dig. We can chase down the ogre lair after we haul those that survuve the dig back to town so that they can rest. To recap: We left the City-State of the Invincible Overlord and travelled for 7 days to the fishing village of Awad. On day 3 or 4 we were ambushed by kobolds and orcs. Which we killed. The next night, when we camped, we were attacked by the ogre and remaining kobolds. Which we killed. Did we get 50gp each as a reward for the ogre? It's a few days back to the ambush site, then probably half a day to their lair, assuming they didn't want to lug stolen goods very far. Probably be several days of us searching the wilderness. Baldrick is a forester, so maybe that will help. Still, that's out-of-pocket expense on food and no guaranteed money. The ruined fortress is less than a day from Awad. We know where it is. They are feeding and paying us. Crommard the Sage is a friend and potential NPC resource. I'm sure there's some loot in this fortress. And probably no orcs, considering the horrible curse. *in case it was unclear, I vote for the fortress, then the ogre's lair. ** I can't remember all the other plot-hooks and their relative distance from us- anybody?

The ogre attacked half a day from Awad. We each got 50 gp from the bounty, 10 gp from selling the arms and armor, 12 gp from the ogre's pouch and 7 gp for acting as guards. I think we will make more money finding the ogre's lair - should have kept one of the kobolds alive. But the lair might be guarded by more orcs and kobolds than we can handle. Of course once word gets out that we killed the ogre the rest of his band might run off with the loot. So I think there is some urgency involved.
We aren't supposed to make money off of the ruins. If everything goes smoothly they spend a month or so digging and then return with some trinkets. We might make 7 gp again. There are sure to be random encounters on the shore and in the ruins. Which should provide some loose change. But we aren't going to make the big score.
Are they still going to the ruins even if we don't guard them? Maybe we can escort them down, make sure they are situated and let them know we will check in on then in a couple of days.

If everything goes smoothly... Zero chance of things going smoothly. Plus, it will be nice to have an extra cleric around. I'm staying with the scholars.

Not that I want anything bad to happen to anyone... It is just that I would think that if we met something big and bad in the ruins it would recognize that Sethus is the main threat and go for him first. He certainly looks more impressive than us 1st level camp guards. And of course Crommard could be taken for a magic user so you'd definitely want to take him out early as well. At least that is what I would do if I were a monster. But not all monsters are as savvy. Of course you might also want to go for the students. Not the most observant, no sharp swords, easy picking.
What do you think? A little too chaotic, need a bit more good?

If we meet anything big and bad in the ruins we'll kill it, BY KORD.
Like the 4HD ogre that we trounced.
We're bad-ass 1st level warriors and if we die we can always roll up new characters.

I think that we should follow the group to the ruin. If we stay there a week and it's obviously not worth it to accumulate 6 sp per day, then we can just leave. We just need to get some clarity on our job duties. I think the 6 sp per day is for us to guard the camp, and does not include setting foot inside the ruins. If they want us to go inside because they found monsters and fled, or if they get kidnapped and dragged inside to be sacrificed on an evil altar, we get extra.

Assuming all goes well at the old elven fortress and we find a huge chest of ogre-gold-
This sounds like a really exciting adventure. #1 on my wish-list.
Of course it's 100gp per person just to get there...
On a more practical note:
I'd go for the evil monastery. Seems straight-forward enough. Baron is pretty low on the nobility scale and whatever leveled the manor and surrounding countryside is probably way out of our league.
