As commonly happens, I misspoke.
A bastard sword proficiency allows you to wield a bastard sword one or two handed, a longsword one handed, and a two-handed sword two handed. If you are specialized, you receive your specialization bonus only when wielding a bastard sword, though you may wield it one or two-handed.
A longsword proficiency allows you to wield longswords and bastard swords (one handed). Specialization applies when you wield both longswords and bastard swords.
A two-handed sword proficiency allows you to wield two-handed swords and bastard swords with two hands. Specialization applies to both two-handed swords and bastard swords.
While a bastard sword specialist can wield four weapons (long, 1h bastard, 2h bastard, two-hand), the bastard sword specialist is specialized in only two of them (1h and 2h bastard). A longsword specialist can wield two weapons (long and 1h bastard) and is specialized in them both. A two-handed sword specialist can wield two weapons (two-hand and 2h bastard) and is specialized in them both.

How does this work now that we have two 8' tall characters who can wield a bastard sword one handed, as a two handed weapon? At that point it seems as if it's just a unique proficiency that doesn't apply to long swords or two-handed swords, right?
