So basically, your AC=the roll needed to hit you? Could go faster - I'm willing to give it a shot.

I like this system
AC 10 stays AC 10.
The formula for calculating new AC is 10 - original AC = AC bonus
If you are wearing leather armor (AC 8) 10-8 = +2 AC
Platemail = AC 3 10-3 = +7 AC bonus
Dragon = AC -4 10 - (-4) = +14 AC bonus
Once you convert the old AC to the new system it will be much easier to calculate to hit rolls. We always calculate the modified to hit rolls pretty quick. The tricky part is figuring out what AC it hits. With this system there's nothing to look up. The AC is the target number.
