I'm not familiar with Ghost ships but I assume that bad stuff will happen when it gets dark. Maybe we could quickly cut down a mast before it gets dark.
On the bright side the ghost ship has probably been around for a good while and may have accumulated a bunch of good stuff. We have been drained in a while so this might be a good opportunity for say...Max to improve his hit points.

Somehow I think whenever we go aboard there will be bad stuff. Clearly something is directing it - something that detects ships lost at sea and can stop on a dime. I think even if we just tried to harvest a mast from it in the middle of the day it is not going to be a cake walk. Could someone do a quick detect evil to see what we are dealing with?

Cedrus has a protection from negative something or other spell; it's in Unearthed Arcana, so I don't know exactly what it does. That might give us an advantage over wraiths, etc. if there are any on board.

I would expect that even in daylight that there is undead below decks. I don't thnik udead are affected by sunlight (except vampires). We won't be able to get away from ghost ship so we might at least take it on while we have the advantage or think we do with the sun still up. What ever is one board can recongnize a fireball cast into the night sky so the evil has intelligence. We might check with the spy glass to see if the ghost ship has a name on the hull. I think Detect Evil has a sixty foot range. If we get that close we might as well go on board and use the spell to track the evil ones and send them back to their dark pits of heck.

Where the hell is "heck"?

|
Post by Mr. Trommer on Aug 8, 2005 12:57:20 GMT -5
"Heck" is a generic term to cover the various parts of "hell" that to undead would go to. Not being familiar with the evil gods I assume they have their own special places in "hell" for their loyal minions.
So Dell, what is the plan? Do we wait for the undead to come board our leaky boat or do we go over to their listing boat? If we wait for them to come to us we might lose our two remaining sailors.

I say that we should talk to them and see what they want. Perhaps some agreement can be come to. There seems to be some type of intelligence there, and they aren't attacking just yet. Let's not pick a fight with the magical unsinking ship. Avoid combat if at all possible.
My elven constitution doesn't handle the sun very well, so I'll be below decks designing a rotating propeller to power the boat. Raven's in charge, let's hope he does a better job of negotiating things this time.

Raven's in charge, let's hope he does a better job of negotiating things this time. Yipee!! I'll make you proud. The first thing to do: test the boat for etherealness. For all we know, the ghost boat is non-corporeal. If it is solid and we can stand on it, we should check to see if items from the ghost ship are still solid when brought aboard the Grey Lady. We don't want to take the time to cut the mast down and have it disappear once it leaves the ship. A few guys should fly over there and do those tests and see if there's someone to talk with.

Sounds good. I volunteer to cast Fly on Otto so he can go over and check it out. Raven could then negotiate through Otto by yelling instructions to him. Much safer that way. Or better yet we can have Otto run over (he has that ring and it will save a spell) and tap on the side of the boat to see if it is solid. If we had a druid we could have warped wood on the hull below the water line.

Since you won't be joining us aboard the ghost ship would you mind doling out some spells to those who are going over. This would free up Winthrop to have slots for offensive spells. I think a couple of strengths, a fly or two and maybe an invisibility 10' would be greatly appreciated. And if there are any magic items you want to let people borrow... Not that I need any but I am sure Winthrop wouldn't mind the extra protection and the lion might be useful. Just a suggestion.

I am happy to run across to the ship and check for etherealness assuming the sea is not too choppy. I could even take a rope and grapnel hook over so that we can pull our ship to it. I assume there is some sort of capstan or winch for raising the anchor on our ship that we can use for this. No point in wasting time. We should just get a big bordering party ready. Otherwise we will be limited by what we can hold in the ships boat. I say we include the Saltmarsh men in this fight since they missed all of the fun with the element.

Everything else I need to keep in reserve to save myself for the good of the company. And if there are any magic items you want to let people borrow... You've been drinking the salt water, haven't you?

Why do we have to ask Dell? If I shout "Rimtara," will the lion be activated? Do you have to be in posession of the magic item for it to work?

Negative Plane Protection lasts 1 turn/level and provides for an additional saving throw against being level drained. If you have negative plane protection cast on you and are, for example, struck by a wraith, you get to make two saving throws rather than one. The negative plane protection remains until it is needed (you would have been level drained) or the duration expires.

I think we will all now want a negative plane protection. Just in case of course. Not that it will be necessary since we have two clerics among us and Otto, Bane of the Undead.
Raven that isn't the right command word for the lion. But it is worth a try next time. I'll have to remember to give it a try. Good thing I wrote it down (this time).

I see Dell is just waiting until it gets dark to board the ghost ship. No sense going over to vosist if their not awake. Brilliant plan Dell. That will give us plenty of time to prepare.

Why do you think I had us take the overland route to Blue in the first place? Because walking is good exercise? No, because I hate the ocean.
You might want to leave Max behind when you head over to your doom. He's not very strong and doesn't have magical armor, so if he goes in the water, he dies. Also, if both of the clerics are incapacitated (or dead), the entire group would be unable to eat food.

You should have said something then. You can Fly such that can stay out of reach and not get your feet wet. Very good point about the food and water thing. We should try to do some fishing.

It was the Wand of Wonder.
From "The Cnronciles of the Blue Sun":
Raven and Al continue to shoot the Vrock with arrows and crossbow bolts, but Vrock is amazingly tough, and shrugs aside many impacts that would have felled a man. Hearing the cracking of the boat’s benches, Winthrop points the bone rod at the Vrock and shouts, “Rimtara!” All are amazed as a small mouse appears over the Vrock, falling through the air into Winthrop’s outstretched hand. The Vrock takes this opportunity of distraction to magically heave Raven out of the boat, sundering the benches, and dropping him into the sea.

Faced with mages, one of the orcs, a rather large one, pulls a small object from his pouch and flings it to the floor between him and Winthrop, shouting, “Gargaratta!” at the same time.

From the "Chronicles": Faced with mages, one of the orcs, a rather large one, pulls a small object from his pouch and flings it to the floor between him and Winthrop, shouting, “Gargaratta!” at the same time. Garg is a fairly common orcish name. The "arat" is an honorific, indicating that he is of rank in the tribe. The lowest rank is "ar", which applies to any mature male. Then you have -arat, -aram, and the chief or the tribe would be formally refered to as -aramar, which loosely translates to "man above men" (or orc above orcs, rather). The shaman gets the suffix -amel. And in this context, "ta" in this context means to strike a blow or cause pain. So essentially this means "Mr Garg hurt (you)." Doesn't really have anything to do with the item, though.

I seem to remember that Garg did indeed hurt me very badly. So I think that Garg is the name of the cat. My impressaion was that "aratta" was the orcish translation for "a rat.' Which translates into "Gargar a rat kill it" which is the command to kill it.
