IIRC, As long as the sum of your intelligence and the difference in levels between your character and the HD of the thing your turning into is greater than 20, you have a 0% chance of losing your mind. For example, Raven has an INT of 14 and is 10th level. He has a base 30% chance of keeping his mind because of the INT, and he would have a 0% chance of losing his mind if he were turned into anything of 4 or fewer HD. Of course, he has only an 80% chance of not DROPPING DEAD ON THE SPOT, so it's probably not a good idea.
Winthrop (12th level and 18 INT), for example, could polymorph fairly safely into a 10HD creature. I vote for a White Dragon, personally.

I vote for a White Dragon, personally. Has Antonus seen a White dragon? Polymorphing Clift into a Ogre Magi would keep him from dying, as well as eventually getting us an icy blast once he recovered. If you're looking for offensive power, turn someone into a Rakshasa.

Antonus has seen: shadow dragons, wyverns, proto-dragons and various dinosaurs.
Turning a party member into a fighting monster isn't the best idea. Enemy clerics can and will dispel a polymorph other, necessitating additional system shock rolls and potentially wasting the spell.
Also a rakshasha or ogre-magi would take one look around at the melee and go invisible or run/fly away. Antonus also doesn't really want to go around making powerful evil monsters, especially ones that are immune to all his spells.
Where are Raven's devil allies when we need them?

Well, the hope is that if we could Polymorph Winthrop into a Rakshasa, he'd have a 100% chance of staying Winthrop mentally and a slim chance of failing a system shock roll. He could fly out of range of of a dispel magic spell and rain fireballs down on the lizardmen. Unfortunately, his save is extremely good, so that plan won't really work.
Maybe we could polymorph something into an angelic elephant thing?

So anyway, here's the beginning of a plan. Dell, Solaria and Florin should sweep around to the far side of the parade ground to the area behind the barracks. We saw that lizardman leader come from behind the barracks, so maybe that's where they have the prisoners stashed. I'm not sure how well they'll be able to find anyone with Dell's obscurement spell active, but who knows. Antonus should turn something into a T-Rex to create confusion. Zapping the flying lizardman priest with a lightning bolt can't hurt. Maybe you can fry his cloak so he falls. Everybody else should try to stabilize the fallen and fall back to behind the barracks as well.
