The room behind the door appears to be a private sitting room. Two comfortable chairs and a low table occupy one corner, while against one wall is a desk and chair. Two doors exit from the room. Both of these doors also do not yield to the Company’s attempts to open them. Dell suggests that the Company is in the mage’s quarters. Winthrop rummages through the desk while the others break down the door. The desk is empty of paper and shows signs of having been quickly cleared out. Caught in the back of one of the drawers are two pieces of paper: one correspondence with a Loftwick mage named Martin Myrick on the construction of magical beasts, the other a list of purchases made through a supplier in Hardwick. Winthrop pockets both of them. Recalling the scrap of paper found in the Nerullite mages quarters, he asks around for a mage named Martin Myrick. Winthrop finds that Myrick is a member of the Academy, who is currently out of town. I thought that we had fingered this guy to the President of the Yeomanry, but that doesn't show in the record.

I posted this a few minutes before you in the previous post. That's why I'm the leader. Yes, but my post is better because it includes links. More important is what we're going to do about it now - I think we need to be have a serious talk with this Myrick guy. But first, we need to be stabbing him into unconsciousness.

Can you give a synopsis of what happened after I left which was just after the two headed, fireball throwing guy showed up? Thanks.

The Two-Headed Troll Mage cast Slow on the party, which was super annoying. Winthrop tried to dispell the Slow, but only managed to dispell the Protection from Evil. So then the demon stopped releasing ghouls, and came and killed Cedrus. And by killed, I mean he critted him for a ton of damage and damn near bit him in half. As deaths go, it was fairly quick and painless, so Cedrus shouldn't be too traumatized by it. Plus, this gives us an opportunity to remove the cursed ring, should we choose to.
Meanwhile, Dell put a Slow spell on the T-HTM and then backstabbed him for minimum damage. Winthrop killed the demon with a lightning bolt, Diego put many arrows into T-HTM's face (both of his faces, I guess) and Dell stabbed into the air desperately, not managing to harm the guy at all. Then T-HTM ran away, leaving a Wall of Force behind him to lock us in.
Winthrop used his great intellect to realize that by the time the wall came down the T-HTM would be fully healed and ready to kick our asses again - so he used his sword to Dimension Door himself and Diego around the Wall of Force, followed T-HTM into his room, and laid the smack-down upon him with Foebiter.
When we left, most of the party was still trapped behind the Wall of Force, with nothing to threaten them, while Diego and Winthrop frantically hacked at the T-HTM's heads, arms and legs to try and keep him from regenerating. Neither of them had any oil, and it's difficult to light a fire when the room is ankle deep in water. That's where we pick up from next week, apparently.

I think that the thing to do is arrange a meeting with him. We'll have a cleric cast "Know Alignment" immediately beforehand, so he'll have no idea what we're doing. If he's good or neutral, we'll assume that he was just corresponding innocently with a colleague about golem construction. He'll hopefully be aghast when we tell him our story and cooperate. If he's evil, we'll let Pavel interrogate him.
On a side note, is putting your fingers in someone's brain considered interrogation? We should probably ask Myrick what he thinks before we leave him alone with Pavel.

Pavel's dead - even after we revive him, he'll be in no condition to be doing anything to anyone's head. Basically, we have to stop him before he can cast a spell, because he'll probably teleport away or something annoying like that. Put him into negatives, then we can interrogate him at our leisure.

You left out where Myrick actually showed up. Is he down here in the caves or was there just another mention of him in passing?

We ran into Myrick in the small village before we entered the swamp we we bought/rented the skiffs.

Since we have the Sending spell do we want to send a message to Raven so he knows where to come and meet us? We could then do the same for Otto.

Yeah, Send Raven a message and have him meet us in the crappy little marshside town. After we rough up Myrick, we'll drop off the dwarven king's bones and then check out the huge tunnel into the mountains and then go get our hopefully identified amulet, and then go to Farvale and surprise Otto in his hometown.
Dell plans to have a great time telling stories about what a great employee Otto is.

You left out where Myrick actually showed up. Is he down here in the caves or was there just another mention of him in passing? When I arrived, Dana recapped what I missed while I was out the week before. He mentioned that the representative of the Loftwick Acadamey in the town we passed was Martin Myrrick. I said "Isn't that the name of the Nerullite arch-mage? Or a friend of his?" Our wizards were apparently too busy pondering the aether to remember a clue like that. It's the kind of thing only a leader would remember.

Oh, I totally knew who Myrick was... I was just... lulling him into a false sense of security. Also, it makes Dana feel better when he pulls one over on us, and with just the two of us there that week I wanted him to be in a good mood.
What are we going to do about Cedrus's cursed ring? Sell it? Leave it on him? Destroy it? Give it to another party member?

Sell it? Leave it on him? Destroy it? Give it to another party member? Well, we could give it to Pavel and tell him to kill us in our sleep. If we want to ditch a henchman, we could give it to him and tell him to stay with us forever, and not leave right away and go across the ocean. I'd suggest confiscating it and selling it.

We should take it off before Cedrus gets better. Then it will be Cedrus's decision as to what he wants to do with it. He might like being contrary. He might donate it to Ehlonna.

Just for the record, Dell is against cursed magical items that change your personality. The shocking grasp function is useful, but not so useful that we need to keep Cedrus contrary.
Besides, without the ring on, he might start healing me again. Dell gots to get his heal on.

Someone needs to compose the 25 word message for the Sending Spell so that Winthrop will be able to accurately direct Raven & Co. on how to meet the rest of the part. Winthrop will be very busy studying spells to take the time to do it well.

From Interlude - vacation: Duke Haermond also says that Racoba has surfaced in Hokar, a city to the south, near the Hellfurnaces, and is disputing the Company’s version of events.
I think we should go find Racoba since we are in the area.

Here's what we're doing next: After we get out of the dungeon, we'll question Myrick. If we get a good lead from Myrick, we should go after that Nerullite wizard right away, just because I'm tired of him scrying us all the time. Also, he's got hella-good spells. Plus, he's a Nerullite, and we hates the Nerullites.
If we don't get any pointers from Myrick, then we'll go to Loftwick to pick up our amulet. Then we hit Farvale, to pick up Otto and investigate what's going on there. And then we head back to Monmorg, to ask Imraell if he's willing to let us know where Dred has gotten off to.
With our luck, Dred will have his secret base on the island that Raven's "negotiating skills" got us banned from.

What we're going to skip taking care of the Lizardmen? They have been preying on the innocent! We should seek justice first! They aren't Lizardmen, they're Troglodytes. And we are going to kill them, because they're in this dungeon. They're punks - we can take them out with ease. But our first priority is getting out of this huge pit with all the loot.

If I remember correctly Cedrus divined two spots in the marshes that had treasure. I know that there are Troglodytes where we are. Are we also going to investigate the other locatation?

Dell doesn't like the swamp, therefore we are spending as little time in it as possible. However, you should break out the Nerullite scanner - if Myrick is a Nerullite too, then there might be a temple nearby. And if the other source of treasure in the swamp is a Nerullite temple... then we go in there full force.

We will have to tell Raven to bring it in the Sending message as I didn't bring it. I have enough problems carrying my spell books. You should do what I do - I leave most of my spellbooks at home. Not only does it keep my encumbrance low, but it drives Raven crazy when I tell him that I don't have that spell with me. Fortunately, when Raven comes he can bring the Leomud's Chest. That will let you carry all the crap you want. Just make sure you don't use it often. Everytime you bring it back from the Ethereal plane, there's a chance that a creature from there will become curious and attack you. And the random encounter list for the ethereal plane has wonderful options like this: Aerial servant, Djinni, Chromatic Dragon, Platinum Dragon, Efreeti, Elemental, Ghost, Intellect devourer, Invisible stalker, Nightmare, Phase Spider, Thought eaters, Xorn. Wait... is it too late to get our money back for this thing?

I have to have enough money so that I can create some travelling spellbooks. That seems to be a problem I have.
Maybe I can spend some more of Raven's money to make them.

I'm amused by the fact that we didn't give Winthrop a share of the loot from the last adventure - for fairness sake - and he's ended up with spells and material components worth more than a share of the loot would have been. We're too good to him.
Then again, he has been doing all of the killing for us lately. And as for the travelling spellbooks - man, that's no problem. We'll get some made in Loftwick. You should actually get some money from this adventure, even. No magic items, though.

Paybacks are hell. I'm fine with the deal.
How long did it take for us to travel to the marshes? We need to factor the amount of time it will take for Raven to get to us to deal with Myrick. We probably could take care of the Lizardmen in that time frame.
