From the notes we got off the corpse of the commissar we didn't bother interrogating, do we have an estimate of how many adversaries are still alive in this place? Or rather, do we have an estimate of how many were here before we started killing them? From which we could subtract: (a) Whatever you guys killed at last month's session -- N dwarves, an iron golem, what else? (b) The guys who were in the room when we teleported into it, minus the spellcaster who got away -- i.e. 4(?) dwarves, 2 devils, and 4 imps (c) The first group who responded to the alarm -- 10 dwarves, I think? (d) The second ditto -- ditto, I think? (e) The 2 imps in the lab We killed probably 15 regular dwarves on day one, plus 5 hammerhands and a caster. We killed another 20 dwarves and 4 more hammerhands last session. I think if we don’t get any reinforcements, we should leave with the lead container and the weird bomb. If we get more new guys off the sidelines, I’d recommend we start pushing in one direction and hope to keep them off balance. For the guys out of spells, we can redistribute wands. Eustace and Wulfgar can use the wand or paralysis or staff of frost to great effect.

I'll post descriptions of all items found in the Arcane Lab as well as any other relevant specifics from the DER0 commissar's notes in a new thread this weekend. A third of the duergar force has been slain. General Ulmvard (the Gnawed One) has an elite cadre of hammerhands as well as a squad of duergar siege engineers who are responsible for the traps and more advanced implements of destruction. There are still more of the commissar DER0 spellcasters. The Pact-Keeper Nilglot has bound 7 devils into service, three greater and four lesser. Two of those greater devils were vanquished in the summoning room. There is a golem foundry mentioned but no reckoning of the number of golems available.

Did the party go back and rest up top before they jumped in? I was planning on suggesting it, but I just looked back and realized I didn’t say it here. If so, the staff gets (I think) 1d10+1 charged at dawn. It’s on my sheet.

We left and spent 10 hours for Eustace to copy Teleport Circle into his book, and then another 8 hours for him to long rest and prepare it.

Awesome. Staff will get it’s 1d10+1 then, and it had 2 left on it. Ren will be full of spells. I think he had full health. He can bring in any reserves next session, or let you all out if you want to rest before continuing

Great session today. We ran Ginger, Titus, Eustace and Aelar as NPCs. We managed to kill the General, another golem and some other duergar before teleporting back to the Lantern. A note for the next time we run into them, golems have a -5 charisma modifier so are easy to banish. We were all pretty low on hit points and spells by the end. We started the teleport spell before we knew if we could defeat the golem. We questioned the dead general after resting. He filled us in on their plans. The duergar nation has many small nukes and plan to destroy the surface cities in next 100 years or so. So no real concern there.
We each got 24,000 xp for this arc. That will get some us to 12th level. Start thinking about what you want to do with the levels and what we would like to do next. We should have enough sand to get to the Luminous Void and back.

Sounds great! Did we get the warlock who banished Ginger? I have a grudge against that guy...

I’m thinking of forgoing a 20 CON and taking the Great Weapon Fighter feat. I mean, 135 hp is good enough, and 147 would just be showing off, right? Alternatively, Resilience feat in WIS would give me advantage on saves and a 15 WIS. I get another ability score increase at level 14, so I could bump that to 16 pretty soon.

Wow, the 11th level ability for Rangers is incredible. Instead of taking 2 shots, he can fire on all targets in a 10 foot radius.

I’m going to miss this week again. Are we going to spend time doing “downtime activity” between sessions? Any opportunity to write scrolls, buy or sell magic items, etc? Those Unearthed Arcana rules for downtime looked very promising.

After spending some time in Catoblepas buying supplies, we decided to head back to the Full Dark Stone. (I'm liking these teleportation circles.) The Celestial Hierarchy had the place guarded. But we figured we could take them and then take out the adult blue dragon. The fight was interesting. They had two wizards which escaped but we took out all the storm troopers. The wizards retreated to their cloud castle which has a minimal crew.
Options: - press the attack on the castle - push on to the dragon - take a short rest and then go after the dragon - retreat to the Lantern with what loot we can carry for a long rest and plan our next foray
BTW, do we have a precedent for casting an area of effect spell on a ship (or other large movable structure)? If Wolfgar cast Insect Plague on the cloud castle could they just move the castle and leave the area of the spell?

Let’s go up and sack that sky fortress! What happened to the weird wizard monster who was living there?

If we were to attack the cloud castle, how would we plan on getting up there?
Eustace can cast Fly on anywhere from 1 to 4 targets, depending on what level of spell slot he burns. He can also cast Dimension Door on himself and up to one other, if we think it's possible to Dimension Door to a place that we can kinda see but only from underneath. I'm not sure about that. He can also Polymorph himself into something that flies. If it's challenge rating 1 or less, e.g. a giant eagle, he can do this once per day without even burning a spell slot. I presume he could carry at least one other person while in eagle form. But Fly and Polymorph are both concentration spells, so he'd have to end one before casting the other.
Who else has vertical transportation?
Eustace is fairly low on higher-level spell slots. Fly on 4 targets followed by Dimension Door would leave him with one slot to cast Fireball, one to cast Teleportation Circle to get back to the Lantern, and nothing else above 2nd level. It would be nice to rest to get some slots back, but if we do that, so will the enemy wizards, and they also might either leave the area or call in reinforcements (there is at least one other castle nearby).

Magic item formulas for Wolfgar: Gem of Brightness and Sentinel Shield.
Wolfgar can Fly at 6" per turn with his ring (assuming a dash) or 3" while dodging. I think Dimension Door is the way to go. Get 4 people up there before they have a chance to flee. One could be the stone giant. Titus can shoot with disadvantage from the ground and still has a good chance to hit.

I don't think we can Dimension Door with the giant. The creature you bring with you has to be your size or smaller.
How many of the castle's crew will be visible from the ground for Titus to shoot at?

Ok, no giant rampaging on the cloud castle. I don't have a good picture of how the cannons are mounted. I figured if they are going to be aiming at us then they need to be exposed. Maybe they are mounted like the gun seats on the Millennium Falcon. But that wouldn't let them shoot straight down. We could probably drop a fireball on it and take out the remaining storm troopers. I guess we will have to wait to see a picture before deciding how to take it.
Are the cloud boots everyone was wearing still active?

Are the cloud boots everyone was wearing still active? This is, of course, the winning answer, even if it turns out to be wrong. :-)

I figure if Eustace casts fly at 6th level, he can effect 4. Ren can make those same 4 invisible with a 5th level slot. After they get up, the wizards both cast dimension door and each gets a plus 1. That gets 8 of us up in relative safety for 2 spells each. A short rest will give Eustace the 6th and Ren the 5th, as well as some hp for those that need it. I would definitely want to deal with the Empire before messing with the dragon.
