It seems to me that the upstart League of the Open Hand is more likely to be behind it than Crofik Drake, if they're trying to establish a power base in the city. He looks tired and explains what a blight Crofik Drake is on his town and how he would he would throw the book at him if he didn't have half the council in his pocket weren't so well connected. Gliff Lawsigil is of the opinion that anything that is bad for Crofik Drake is good for Lakeshore, even if it is an added criminal element in the city. He obviously feels some deep personal enmity toward the man. How does Idris believe we can best persuade her father? Idris Thenorean claims she can persuade her father of anything. She's spent most of her young adult life scandalizing her ultra-wealthy family with acts of rebellion and then winning her way back into her father's good graces. A council meeting where the two clerics present cast Zone of Truth should go a long way. The council convenes once every month and for special sessions. Lily would need an additional vote from another member of the council to call a special session. (good luck getting a politician anywhere near a "Zone of Truth"!)

Zone of Truth is pretty ideal for a politician! "An affected creature is aware of the spell and can thus avoid answering questions to which it would normally respond with a lie Such a creature can be evasive in its answers as long as it remains within the boundaries of the truth." I think anyone could remain silent or evade any questions other than specific interrogations about someone's human status. The caster also knows if the subject passed the save or not, which helps.

Eustace would like to know the 2nd-level spell Invisibility, but he doesn't. If he did, he could make Lily, Idris, and Gliff invisible -- one at a time, for up to an hour each -- which would presumably make it rather easy to get them into town without being noticed. Invisibility would also be useful in general for other purposes. Perhaps we could make some sort of deal with the wizard on the island to obtain this spell, either for cash or in trade for something. From Eustace's previous conversation with the wizard, does he have any sense of whether he's amenable to trading for spells?
Eustace also has some skill as a researcher. He would happily devote some time to finding out about doppelgangers.

From Eustace's previous conversation with the wizard, does he have any sense of whether he's amenable to trading for spells? Previously, Eustace offered the contents of his meager spellbook in trade for new spells and was politely refused. The wizard (Selvaster) did express an interest in obtaining a magic crystal from the Crystal Caves over at the ruins. He also offered money in exchange for monster parts and dungeon-blooming plants. Eustace also has some skill as a researcher. He would happily devote some time to finding out about doppelgangers. There isn't actually a library or university in town. Beyond the religious texts in the temples and the records stored in the town hall, the majority of the book in the city are housed in the private collections of the wealthy families. It is not uncommon for them to host visiting scholars, bards, sages, etc. as a symbol of status, holding lavish parties where they flaunt their wealth and learned guests before their friends and rivals.

Do we have anything to discuss before Sunday? Now that we've finished our stake out, we ambush a patrol and try to question some guards. Any other ideas?

Do we want to try to contact Crofik Drake? Maybe we could get his help with the patrols while we try to access the buildings. That might help keeping reinforcements away. Also he may have intel about the patrols and the buildings since they have likely been monitoring the situation longer than we have.

Sgt. Blanchard suggested taking up rooms at the Hooded Falcon Inn, surveilling Casimir Dark Securities, specifically their compound at the "Four Corners;" and maybe discretely questioning the neighborhood inhabitants.
I'll recap at the start of the session. Maybe even prior to the session!

Another attempt to talk with the thieves guild sounds good.

Alarmed citizens report a violent attack against Casimir-Dark Security on the streets of Lakeshore, resulting in two homicides. In one case, the cause of death was determined to be magical fire. City Watch and City Guard in the surrounding neighborhoods have been alerted to be on the lookout for suspects matching the general description of the party.
Sgt. Blanchard recommends the party lay low for a while Magistrate Lawsigil sorts things out. Perhaps hole up at an inn for a few days to strategize or pursue an adventure at the ruins while local law enforcement deals with the Casimir-Dark problem:
Ogre activity around Lakeshore has prompted the Town Council to reinstate "Laraval's Tax," the old 50GP bounty on ogre heads, an ancient law dating back to the Ogre-Wars.
The renegade cleric Jarbart Bonecowl and his band of (evil) acolytes are known to conduct awful rites in & around the undead ruins, Jarbart is wanted dead/alive (500GP) by the Five Temples for heresy & necromancy.
House Hallander offers a substantial reward (2000GP) to any bold adventurers who can brave Djavelburg and recover the lost arms & armor of Hugo Hallander who lead that ill-fated expedition to capture the mountain stronghold a several years back. The monks of Bitterblack Abbey were rumored to have a reliquary containing magical artifacts.
Meet Guy L'Risque and his woodsmen.
Find Tannenbaum the Oaken King or the Forest Guardian Amarielle.

Eustace is kind of into harvesting monster bits. He votes for going after some ogre heads. Second choice, the abbey and the magical artifacts.

I'm down with ogres, too, although I think we will all be quickly killed if we go into their cave and 6-10 engage us at once. Remember that we still haven't fought an ogre, just a zombie ogre. A zombie human is generally a tougher opponent than a regular human, but I think the opposite could be true for monsters.

I don't mind fighting ogres but I don't think the payoff is likely to be all that good. At 50 gp/head we would have to kill quite a few to make some decent coin. Though the xp haul would also be nice. Are we going to wander around the swamps or explore the cave in the ruins?

I'd suggest the cave. I don't even know what I'd want to spend money on, other than plate, which is quite expensive and a ways away.
