That's right. Dragons' lair. As in multiple dragons. Four to be exact. I will leave the writeup to the DM. But the current situation has us with - Colby unconscious from being attacked by a roper.
- The hasted earth elemental he was controlling now enraged.
- Trommer weakened by a second roper. He is also hasted and in possession of the dragon slayer sword and the unicorn ring.
- Friedrich is also hasted and carrying a silenced stone standing between the elemental and Colby.
- No one else is too injured. Not counting the slowed poisoned Marcus.
- The three younger dragons are one cavern over from us and their Momma is in the next cavern atop a giant horde. They were asleep earlier. It is unclear whether they have noticed us yet.
I don't know if we will have a choice as to whether we fight the dragons. First we need to protect Colby from being turned to paste by the hasted elemental. I think Friedrich, Trommer, Paavo, Marcus and Ingrid can make pretty quick work of the thing but I don't know what shape we will be in afterwards. One option would be for someone to heal Colby, then he uses his remaining Polymorph Self (or the wand) to flee (towards the dragons), drawing the elemental away and hopefully into a new fight. Another option would be for Trommer to dimension door with Colby. I am not sure if that is possible with the ring. It just depends on how quickly the dragons show up.

Colby is out of Polymorph Self spells, so he'd have to use the wand.
I'm a huge fan of Trommer grabbing Colby and Dimension Door'ing near the dragons. Even better if we can get the silence stone. He could heal me with the Ring of Spell Storing, while silenced, and hope the dragons don't notice us.

I was wondering if the Polymorph Self Colby used to explore the caves was still up. It probably expired while we were summoning the elemental. But we didn't keep an accurate count of the 2 hour 20 minute duration.

Between scouting the cliff entrance, the party's search for the actual cave entrance, the scouting of the interior, the subsequent escape through the roof fissure and the return to the party, there was 10 minutes or so left on the Polymorph Self.
It lapsed sometime during Finnious' memorization of Comprehend Languages to read the Haste scroll.

The hasted elemental won initiative and, standing within 10 feet of a downed Colby, proceeded to do 32 HP’s of damage before any member of the party could make an attack roll. Friedrich, himself, did 50 damage that round as the elemental did another 32 HP’s (dropping Colby to -64, daammnn!!). The next round the elemental tried to burrow into the earth but was killed instead. Of course we decided to abort this operation. Fortunately, Paavo had the presence of mind to leave the symbol of pain to cover our retreat(that item has saved us twice now).
When we came outside, of course, our giant buddy had shown up with about 10 of his friends who we proceeded to kill. We went through a war band of various giants, trolls, verbeeg and, I think, a couple ogre-magi. Friedrich, with the shield brooch activated and his dwarf bonus, was virtually untouchable and was able to taunt several of the largest ones to focus only on him for 3 rounds when other party members we low on HP's. An 18+ strength Paavo and Trommer did huge damage and Bolo used the wand of lightning effectively. Fin landed a backstab and rolled a 1!!! HAHA. Anyway, they retreated and we decided not to follow as we were expecting to see 4 dragons emerging shortly. Thankfully the symbol of pain seems to have deterred them.
We made way to some other weird domicile where a mage supposedly lived (according to a party of 5 buckawns who we met). In order to enter the estate one had to play some bizarre game of chess and assume the role of a pawn. We passed on this but the buckawns went in to the estate, emerged a short time later and agreed to guide us back to the dragon’s lair, even though they told us we would surely die there if we went in. Rested and healed we headed back.
Our plan was very similar to the last time. Fin made his roll and was able to summon another earth elemental. We didn’t silence anybody (and couldn’t haste anybody either) and kept 2 rounds behind the creature. The strategy proved reasonably effective. The elemental was killed in 2 rounds by the 3 smaller dragons but managed to kill one of them. Mary, Dan, Fin and Little Red Ridinghood stayed back a little. The rest of the party charged in and killed the other 2 smaller dragons that round. The next round, the ancient dragon became visible and breathed poison on all of the forward members, bringing Friedrich(at 62 HP’s), Ingrid, Marcus and Paavo down. Only Trommer was still standing but with the dragon slaying long sword he killed the creature in 2 rounds. We all would have been dead if not for the fact that the dragon charged and rolled a critical fumble. Trommer, did not allow the ancient wyrm to recover from its slip.
I guess months of complaining to Venger has paid off in terms of the treasure found. There were about 15-20 suits of armor, shields, and tons of weapons. There were no scrolls or spell books. There was a hand axe, which might make an excellent off-hand weapon and a bow, which should go to Danakes. Tons of coins and gems to go around.
The buckawns were still outside and we gave them a diamond as payment for leading us back here. They seem to be cooperative at this point so I say we pay them to help us navigate this land and avoid unnecessary encounters, like thieving leprechauns, shadow stealing creatures and nixies that want to take us away for a year. The buckawns said they can guide us to the Druid island to raise/reincarnate Colby and to the Land of Summer if we give them silver. At this point I say we pay them what they want.

Trommer did 50 points. The magic missiles did nothing as the dragon had a shield spell. The lightning bolt made the difference. If the dragon hadn't fumbled it would have been a tpk.

Bolo definitely pulled his weight using that wand to damage the dragon. Then he did a swan did into the lake of coins!!! (that was little DM/Friedrich flavor text) Sounds exciting! How are we going to haul all of that loot out? I don't think we can realistically. That's why I am willing to part with a lot of the silver/copper if it means we can get the buckawns to guide us around and not have to deal with a whole bunch of unwanted distractions (finding a shadow or recovering the Libram of Silver Magic).

Dan will use Detect Good to see if anything/anyone detects as such. If that works he will use Detect Evil as well.
Paavo will handle each of the weapons to see if he gets any impression from them. Any sort of sentience. Do any of them glow? Are all of the weapons of finest quality? He assumes the dragon has no interest in mundane or poorly crafted items.
How large is the ivory statue of the horse? If large enough Paavo will sit on it. He will run through some random words to try to activate it - horse, steed, equus, equine, shadowfax, etc. He will see if it talks. He will give it standard commands - walk, prance, step, trot, halt - to see if it moves.
He will address the ship's figurehead to see if it is magical and talks. He will avoid getting wrapped up by the outstretched arms. If the figurehead does not appear to be animated then he will suggest Bolo and/or Finnious check it for secret compartments.
Should we ask the buckawns if they have the ability to distinguish the magic of the realm from the magic of enchanted items? Paavo will discuss this quietly out of the hearing of the buckawns. My worry is that they won't be truthful.
Does Finnious or Mary want to take possession of Arcadian? Maybe Arcadian can provide us with some useful information for detecting magic. Or how to safely use the quantum box in this realm.
Paavo will suggest using Dispel Magic to see if we can temporarily dampen the magic of the realm. Thus allowing us to use Detect Magic on the items. Again maybe Arcadian could be useful here.
If we are in no hurry Finnious and/or Mary could randomly select an item to Identify. I would suggest the ivory horse, the ship in the bottle or the cauldron Trommer is lugging around. The first two may provide means of travel and/or ways to carry a fraction of this stuff. Identifying the cauldron will let us know whether we can leave it behind allowing Trommer to load up on other stuff.
Again if we are in no hurry, Finn and/or Mary might want to try casting Find Familiar. Might be cool to get a familiar from the faery lands. Even if it is a toad it will be able to speak Common.
I guess we will need a list of everyone's total encumbrance and the encumbrance of each item. Also estimated values for each item independent of whether it is magical.
Can the buckawns tell us more about the druids? Are there dangers with dealing with them? Are they part of this realm or do they come from our world? What do they do here? Are they aligned with/against any of the other inhabitants?

Finnious - violet dust (magic detection) ( 6 ) Finn could try dusting some items (including some of ours we know are and are not magical) to see what happens. How big of an area can he cover with one application?

Can Bolo look around with his detect invisibility medallion?
Also can one of the magic users ask Arcadian about the dangers of using the vanishing ring in this realm? We could use this to temporarily transport some of this stuff.

Dan will use Detect Good to see if anything/anyone detects as such. If that works he will use Detect Evil as well. When the spell is cast nothing registers. Paavo will handle each of the weapons to see if he gets any impression from them. Any sort of sentience. Do any of them glow? Are all of the weapons of finest quality? He assumes the dragon has no interest in mundane or poorly crafted items. The weapons are of varying quality, some are highly ornate and some seem more practical. Can the buckawns tell us more about the druids? Are there dangers with dealing with them? Are they part of this realm or do they come from our world? What do they do here? Are they aligned with/against any of the other inhabitants? The Druids are the Druids! They serve the Green Man, they're the caretakers of the Blessed Isle of Apples; they safeguard that which is most precious. They are allied with Nature and against the vile Formorians, the House of the Undying Season and the minions of Shadow.

Finnious - violet dust (magic detection) ( 6 ) Finn could try dusting some items (including some of ours we know are and are not magical) to see what happens. How big of an area can he cover with one application? Only a pinch is needed for an object of any size; there are 1d10+10 pinches in each pouch. Unfortunately the powder begins to spark and flare as soon as it's exposed to the air. (1d10+9 pinches) Can Bolo look around with his detect invisibility medallion? He sees a couple invisible fae playing in the treasure pile and a few more ooohing & aaahing over the dragon corpses.

Mary will ask Arcadian about the dangers of using the vanishing ring in this realm. She is more than happy to cooperate with any reasonable request. However, she can help, she will. You will need to relay the details of any such conversations.

The weapons are of varying quality, some are highly ornate and some seem more practical. All are in good condition. a wickedly-curved scimitar (40GP wgt) (shocks Paavo for 10 damage - ow!)a longsword with a snarling lion pommel (60GP wgt) (shines with a warm amber light)a bardiche (125GP wgt) (well-balanced)a heavy spiked mace (200GP wgt) (heavy!)a longsword with an ivory grip (30GP wgt) (exceedingly light, well-balanced)Paavo will ask Marcus and Trommer to also test the weapons. In particular he wants to see if the sword glows for everyone. Or whether it is aligned. I am guessing the scimitar is aligned but not LG. The figurehead is unresponsive. It is seamlessly carved from a single jewelwood tree, there are no hidden mechanisms. Is jewelwood the same type of wood we gave the Sphinx? I recall that was worth a lot and I think we learned it could be used to create magic items. The Druids are the Druids! They serve the Green Man, they're the caretakers of the Blessed Isle of Apples; they safeguard that which is most precious. They are allied with Nature and against the vile Formorians, the House of the Undying Season and the minions of Shadow. They don't like the Formorians or Shadow. Sounds good to me, or at least not evil.

I did a review of the items. Here are some suggestions. - we are carrying 2000+ gp encumbrance of personal coins. we should identify some gems and jewelry in the dragons treasure that can be exchanged for them.
- we are carrying 825 gp enc. in rations. Dan and Ingrid can create food and water. So we probably don't need all of this.
- Mary should take the following items from Colby: plain gold ring (armoring), thick gold ring (protection), red leather glove (flame), orange gem (Arcadian), perfume bottle (aromatic PfG), bag of bones.
- I believe Bolo's cure poison was used by Colby.
- Finnious needs to drop a lot of stuff, especially if he wants his initiative bonus. Below is what I suggest he carries. The rest he can either leave or ask someone else to carry.
- Friedrich probably doesn't need to be carrying the dragonhide. If we were going to use it we would have.
- The party has 240' of rope. We probably don't need all of that.
- Why are we carrying 11 books for 2 magic users???

the longsword with a snarling lion pommel (60GP wgt) (shines with a warm amber light) and does so whenever anyone wields it. the wickedly-curved scimitar (40GP wgt) shocks Marcus but not Trommer. none of the other weapons respond differently Is jewelwood the same type of wood we gave the Sphinx? I recall that was worth a lot and I think we learned it could be used to create magic items. Yes, you gave Ontussa planks of rare jewelwood plundered from the Tomb of High Kings. I'd added the encumbrance of the Maiden figurehead to previous post with the list of Unaccounted for Encumbrance, with Colby and the cauldron. And highlighted those books.

Please check my math.
Between Trommer, Marcus, Friedrich and Mary (including deep pockets robe) we can carry an additional 2731.5 gp wgt. Danakes, Paavo and Ingrid with Strength spells would also be helpful.
If we exchange coinage for less encumbering treasure and leave the dragon hide and the rations that gives an additional 3475 = (2150 + 500 + 825) gp wgt.
That is roughly 6200 gp wgt.
We need to carry: Colby = 3289 GP wgt Finnious Surplus = 1145 GP wgt Accumulated Treasure = 549.925 GP wgt Trommer's Cauldron = 1000 GP wgt total = 5984 gp wgt
leaving 222 gp wgt.
Then we have the dragon horde dragon's horde = 11846GP wgt
Assuming everyone in the party was all willing to be encumbered to a 6" movement we could take on an additional (350gp x 14) = 4900 gp wgt. If you add up all of the items with a total encumbrance of less than 400 gp you get 4735 gp wgt. That means we would leave behind:
44 huge giant-minted gold coins an ornate copper brazier 14620 ancient silver pieces a steel-bound oaken chest a carved statue of an ivory horse 2440 gold coins of imperial mint a figurehead 2150 gp (red denagoth) a dragonhide 11 weeks of rations

Friedrich will closely examine the hand ax. Is there any way he could make a perception check to see if what he can figure out regarding its effectiveness. Kind of like an appraisal check but for an ax.
When you say I need to relay the details of any conversation, did you mean Mary would need to relay the details to the group or I need to relay to you what I am asking. Anything Josh wants Mary to ask, she will be more then happy to do so as I have not been following this whole Arcadian plot line.

Friedrich will closely examine the hand ax. Is there any way he could make a perception check to see if what he can figure out regarding its effectiveness. Kind of like an appraisal check but for an ax. The axe is sturdy and sharp, Friedrich believes it's good for slashing and chopping. He could also throw it. Beyond that, any properties are hidden from him. When you say I need to relay the details of any conversation, did you mean Mary would need to relay the details to the group or I need to relay to you what I am asking. Anything Josh wants Mary to ask, she will be more then happy to do so as I have not been following this whole Arcadian plot line. Arcadian is the entity within the glowing orange gem. He communicates via written message in that purple notebook or through private messages (which I sent you earlier) on the bulletin board. If your character is addressing him, you will need to use either of those mediums and if you wish for the rest of the party to know the contents of the discussion you will need to share them yourself.

These are my calculations: All-in, not counting the dragon hoard, but counting Colby, party treasure, the cauldron and all inventory; party encumbrance is: 17683.675/15750 = -1933.675Discarding all coinage (gold/silver/copper) valued/weighing 2233.65GP, and 11 iron rations (x75GP wgt): 14624.3/15750= +1125Additionally discarding 240' rope: 14264.3/15750= +14855250GP wgt more can be garnered by encumbering everyone to a 6" (including Red Ridinghood) (this calculation is already built into Friedrich, Ingrid & Bolo*'s encumbrance) (*Bolo already assumed at 9", can only take 350GP wgt more to reach 6") Encumbering the party to a 6": (and I mean 1 GP wgt away from 3") +3316.325 +6375 (no gold, no rations) +6735 (no gold, no rations, no rope) +500 more if you discard dragonhide = 7235GP wgt Dragon hoard coming in at: 11811GP wgt + Maiden figurehead, additional 4500GP wgt total: 16311.00

This was sent to me via PM today
--Begin Message-- Questions for Mary to ask Arcadian: -is it dangerous to use the vanishing ring here? (see my first PM, re: planar pathways & it does not function here)
-what happens to items left in the vanishing ring? (they are voided into the Astral Plane)
-how long can you keep things there? (for as long as the extradimensional space exists...)
-how can you determine if something is magical if everything detects as magic in this realm? (everything is magical here, at the very source of magick)
-in other words, how do we determine which items would detect as magic in our world? (ritual identification spell or removing them from the ethereal plane)
-can he tell which items are magical? he can teach both Improved Identify and Legend Lore, but otherwise his faculties are limited to the gem.
-why doesn't detect evil/good and protection from evil/good work here? as Mary is unable to comprehend the precepts of planar pathways, Arcadian explains that these spells simply do not function the same on the Inner Planes.
-is there anything we can do about that? return to any of the prime material planes -- the best Arcadian can do is teach Anti-Magic Shell, which has similar functionality to the protection from good/evil spells.
-where does the lemarchand box take you? The Labyrinth of Stone

Is Red able to carry a normal load? Is she really a kid? We will ask the buckawn if she is what she appears to be - a human girl. I'll ask Friedrich to read her thoughts from time to time to see if she is thinking anything bad. If we are willing to move at a 6" with everyone encumbered then we can keep our gold, drop the rations, and carry +4191 GP wgt. Everything except the dragon coins, chest, brazier, horse and figurehead comes to 4282 GP wgt. So we just need to drop an additional 91 GP wgt to take all put the largest items. Danakes could replace his non-magical tower shield with another tower shield from the dragon's treasure. Dan will try casting Create Food and Water to make sure it works. Between the healing and sleeping for levels and testing spells we will be here for 24 hours. Mary and Finn should choose items to identify. Please choose something. I suggest the cauldron and the ship in a bottle. We could send some people with the buckawns back to lake to collect Sobat. That will give us some additional carrying. Maybe he can identify some of the items from his party. Are Trommer and Danakes willing to do that?

Is Red able to carry a normal load? She can carry 350GP wgt and move at a 6". She will complain though. As far as you can tell, yes, a human girl age 9-12. We will ask the buckawn if she is what she appears to be - a human girl. Sure seems like one. Children wander into Faerie all the time. They'll take her off your hands if you want, can always find a use for children... I'll ask Friedrich to read her thoughts from time to time to see if she is thinking anything bad. She worries about getting in trouble with her parents for being away so long, then thinks about how they can't be mad at her when she brings back her share of the treasure and how all her friends will never believe the wondrous tales of giants, dragons and faeries... Dan will try casting Create Food and Water to make sure it works. The spell creates the appropriate volume of fishes & loaves & fruits, but they are all strangely colored- fuschias, plaids, polka-dots, etc. We could send some people with the buckawns back to lake to collect Sobat. That will give us some additional carrying. Maybe he can identify some of the items from his party. Are Trommer and Danakes willing to do that? lol and they were never seen again... Mary will go ahead and identify the ship in a bottle. The bottle contains a small wide-hulled vessel with a single mast and a lateen sail. Stenciled into the side of the ship is the name "Lamia's Kiss." Identification reveals that this is indeed a full-size ship magically shrunk to fit within the bottle. Judging by the scale of the model, the boat is approximately 36' long x12' wide. Breaking the bottle will release the spell. RUNNING TALLY: 1 PEARL
