But Friedrich is laying in giant pool of mud now so I guess he'll hope for the best. You do have the voice of Mary Tanner, henchwoman, if you feel that Friedrich being unconscious is limiting your expression. No, the message board is fine. I would like to get the lost XP back too but I also think that might be stretching the power of a limited wish.

And Haste is a positive side effect right? :) We don't know what all of the effects of drinking from the fountain are. But I assume that the Dao doesn't know them either. So I don't think he would be able to pick a specific effect. Assuming we did go with this wish then I think we would just re-roll until a non-negative effect was indicated (or just roll a d4). And yes I think Haste would have to be included as a positive effect (with possible negative side effects).

I was just kidding about the Haste. Wanted to demonstrate that potentially no wish is iron-clad. No, the message board is fine. Uhh.. OK!

So I guess I would say, in the final analysis, that Finnious should have the magic long sword. But if we come across a big bad creature that can only be hurt by a +2 or better weapon then Finnious should get the sword into Trommer's hands as soon as possible. This would be one of those times where I think getting the sword into Trommer's hands as soon as possible would be a good idea.

While Finnious is held and in melee with the BBEG, he's definitely in no position to disagree.

Oh, sure, pick on Fin just because he's AC7 with 27 HP and frozen trapped between a wall of fire and the main chief head bad dude with various and sundry gargoyles, dark assassins and Roscrucians wandering about smartly.
If he could, he'd ask "what good did all those 'front line fighters' do you now? I bet if I'd been able to get off a backstab like on the ugly giant it'd be "wow, thanks Fin, but, uh, no magic armor for you".
JUST KIDDING. I'd say Fin's days are pretty much numbered. Think Trommer needs to get into melee with the BBEG right pronto -- and Paavo might want to think about connecting once or twice with his 2-hander -- or we're all the buffet item of the week at Golden Corral.
Also, turns out I can't make either next Sunday or the 18th. Sorry. But have fun looting what's left of Fin's corpse!

I don't think we are doing that bad. We were all pretty much at max hit points (thanks Dan Danbury) before the lightning bolt in the hall. They are down to the BBEG, 2 gargoyles, a magic user, 2 shadow walkers and the silver princess (?). Now that the magic user is visible she should be easy pickings for Colby and Danakes. Marcus, Ingrid and Trommer should make quick work of the gargoyles. The BBEG has been hard to hit (Paavo needs a 15) but it has taken ~50 in damage. It doesn't do that much damage when it attacks but it has lots of defenses - gaze attack, low AC, symbol of hopelessness. The silver princess has been a non-combatant so far. The shadow walkers we'll deal with when they show up. Unfortunately Finn (held) and Friedrich (hopelessness) are out of the fight.
So if Trommer can get Finn's sword and Marcus takes Ingrid's rod of flailing then, together with Paavo, we should be able to do enough damage to this thing to make it teleport away if not kill it. BTW I don't think Danakes's box will be very useful if it can teleport at will.

Maybe Danakes should use his freeze ray on the Princess? I don't think we want to hurt her, even if she's evil, since I assume she's just been temporarily corrupted or something.
Otherwise Colby will use magic missile (and Sinister Strangulation!!) on the magic user outside. He'll also suggest we get back to back if possible to avoid backstabs. I'm saying this now since it seems I'll miss our last game.

I like the idea of Danakes using the green ray to imprison the "silver princess". Perhaps she has been corrupted, or perhaps she isn't the SP at all, like "Lord Sherlane" and "Colby" weren't themselves. Either way, yes, let's lock her up like we did the dao, and deal with her after we've dealt with the others.

In case you do run this battle while I am not there this weekend here are some thoughts.
Friedrich is under the effect of a Symbol of Hopelessness. Probably nothing we can do about this but Ingrid could try a Remove Fear. Paavo also has a potion of invulnerability. Maybe feeling invulnerable would assuage the feeling of hopelessness.
Finn is held. If possible Paavo will shift 5' so his protection now covers Finn. That will prevent the BBEG from mauling Finn.
Paavo can continue to try to hit the BBEG unless the party calls for retreat. In which case he will try to drag Finn to safety. He currently has 18/40 strength and is +7/+9. That gives him a THAC0 of 9. His armor has been criticaled once. He will yell warnings about looking at the creatures eyes. Don't believe what you see. Also be wary of the symbol. The next round should be his 2 attack round.
Bolo has the silver princess or something polymorphed to look like her (like a demon) or an illusion. I would be careful how far you drag her.
Dan is unconscious. He is probably fine there. (Likewise for Mary, Bunny and Radishblatt). He has a waterskin of healing, some protective salts and 1 second level spell. His armor is in tatters.
Ingrid, Trommer and Marcus should finish off the gargoyles. And then come help Paavo. Marcus (given his level and high strength) has a better chance of hitting with the rod of flailing than Ingrid (10%). However Ingrid has the dwarven save bonuses which might be helpful against the spells. In either case, whoever is wielding the rod should use the "shield on" setting to gain +4 to their saves and AC. Trommer should go for Finn's sword. Everyone should be near Paavo to prevent charming and get the +2 on their saves. Someone could also use Friedrich's axe.
Colby and Danakes should be able to handle the witch in the hall. Just make sure you disrupt her spells before she fries you and kills everyone else. Maybe the fact that Colby took no damage will give her pause.
Paavo has the limited wish scroll. And Colby could always try to summon another elemental or some monsters. If all else fails Paavo can always try Ukko again.

1) Considering Finnious & Paavo have already damaged the creature I would have to say it will not be hindered by the PfE 10' radius.
2) Paavo is carrying the Limited Wish scroll? I thought that was left with @ Sherlane Manor.

If you attack something and then cast PfE then you are protected. Paavo attacking only voids the protection on himself. Anyone else in the PfE 10' is still protected. Someone entering the 10' radius should be treated as casting a new protection on himself.
I should have a post it on the inside of the folder. Sherlane made some noise about not being able to trust himself not to use it. We figured Paavo had the best saves.

Someone entering the 10' radius should be treated as casting a new protection on himself. It's not clear to me what would happen if the person who had the PfE 10' r. cast on him attacked the creature. Would the whole PfE 10' r. collapse or just that one person become unprotected? I'd think that whole PfE 10' r. would collapse, since that person is the center of the circle. According to this, Paavo voids the PfE 10' for all parties when he attacks. Now I personally like the idea of a paladin being able to shelter individuals within their protective aura and still fight demons and normally would agree with you. In this circumstance however, where the PfE 10' radius has already been breached and the creature is in direct melee with both individuals, I do not agree.

Can we get XP totals?
Or did you just not bother to post it because we are all going to be dead after tomorrow's session anyway?
And by the way, are we playing a 1 shot or the main campaign?

If somehow you do defeat the BBEG and save the princess there are some things to keep in mind.
In no particular order: -Paavo and Dan need 8 hours of sleep to level up. -If the princess knows how to reverse the bad effects of the magic fountain that would be useful. -there was something about a troll king. Care we don't ran into him in our weakened state. -if we make it back to town then Dan needs to train for 5th level.

I'm trying to understand the ultrodaemon's magic resistance against the rod of lightning. The base resistance is 110% against 1st level spells. Per the explanation on page 28 of the MM2, this is reduced by 5% for each spell level above 1st and reduced/increased by 5% for each level of the spellcaster above/below 11th.
The rod of lightning does 8d6 damage. This is the same as the 3rd-level MU spell Lightning Bolt, as cast by an 8th level MU. Is that how I should think of this rod? If so, the ultrodaemon's magic resistance comes out to 110% - 10% (for the spell level) + 15% (for the caster's level) = 115%.
Am I doing this calculation correctly? If so, probably none of our magic items can do anything against the ultrodaemon.
Have we determined that Danakes's box with the green cone is technological, not magical? If so, maybe he needs to get up there quick and put the critter in an emerald force field.

The MM says, "It requires a silver, iron, or +3 or better weapon to harm a night hag." Are standard weapons (swords, arrow heads, axe blades, etc.) not generally made of iron? I suppose there could be some bronze ones out there, but surely they would be the exception?
If a weapon is iron, but magical and less than +3, can it hit a night hag? For example, Bolo has a black iron dagger, +2 versus magic creatures.

If so, probably none of our magic items can do anything against the ultrodaemon. Tricky question. Wands are treated as 6th level (DMG p. 133) and staves as 8th level (DMG p. 135), but rods are not defined in the DMG or UA. Cross-checking damage, I would class a 8d6 lightning rod the same as a staff, so yes, as if 8th level. With respect to the ultrodaemon and its magic resistance, I'd agree with your analysis. 115% chance of successful resistance. The MM says, "It requires a silver, iron, or +3 or better weapon to harm a night hag." Are standard weapons (swords, arrow heads, axe blades, etc.) not generally made of iron? I suppose there could be some bronze ones out there, but surely they would be the exception? Weapons and armor are generally made of steel, not iron. (See DMG, p. 164 for the effects of incorporating rarer metals in the armor-making process.) Weapons specifically made only of iron are generally referred to as such, or as cold-forged. Steel, though having iron in it, doesn't have any special effect versus extra-planar creatures. For example compare the list of damaging effects for demon (MM, p. 16) and devil (MM, p. 20) where under devil it specifically differentiates between a normal weapon and an iron weapon. See also, seawolf (MM2, p. 81) for a reference to cold iron. If a weapon is iron, but magical and less than +3, can it hit a night hag? For example, Bolo has a black iron dagger, +2 versus magic creatures. I would say yes. The night hag is hit by iron weapons. You have a black iron dagger. I would even say that you are +2 to hit and damage against the night hag because the criteria to do damage to it is met by a +0 black iron dagger.

It's extremely generous of Bolo to volunteer to go toe to toe with the Night Hag!
Josh and Scott, we'll give a full recap later, but we basically used the limited wish to rewind to the beginning of the fight.

It's extremely generous of Bolo to volunteer to go toe to toe with the Night Hag! I wondered if he'd try the dagger... we basically used the limited wish to rewind to the beginning of the fight. The limited wish was unable to reverse the effects of the full wish from the luckblade, so the time travel was a little wonky.

Llike I said, that link to the daemon's stats should reasonably approximate the effects of the symbol of hopelessness.
Re: telekinesis--
After 10 rounds the telekinetically propelled object is moving at a rate of 1024" = 10240 feet/minute = 1.9 miles/minute = 115 mile/hour approximately.

It's extremely generous of Bolo to volunteer to go toe to toe with the Night Hag! Erm, no ... but he'd be happy to lend it to someone with a strength damage bonus while he shoots two silver arrows per round. Gareth recalls that Fin lent a silver longsword to Bunny. Is that correct? If so, she needs to give it to someone who can do something useful with it.
