Remember that Trommer and Friedrich can only charge 12". I think Paavo should probably charge, with the other two advancing behind him. This will a) create some space so you won't all 3 get fireballed/lightining bolted together and b) let them gauge distance and not waste a charge.
Alternatively, Trommer can try out the ultralight chain so he and Paavo can charge in round 1.
Friedrich and Trommer have great CON scores, so I think using the Haste spell on them is a good idea. Since Haste allows you to move twice in one round, could you do a regular move on the first part and then charge for the second part?

With the haste spell or speed potion Trommer and Friedrich will move at the same rate as Paavo. But I do think there may be some value in staggering the approach for the reason you mention.
With Trommer in the ultralight chain mail and sped up he could charge for 48".
Heck we could have everyone sped up and just run by the guy before he has a chance to cast any spells. Then lock him behind the door.

If you get 3 attacks per round. Do they go first, on your initiative, last? Or do they go first, segment 5, last?

No. "When this spell is cost, affected creatures function at double their normal movement and attack rates. " There is no "move twice." You move once, twice as fast. If you get 3 attacks per round. Do they go first, on your initiative, last? Or do they go first, segment 5, last? The former.

While Colby is memorizing Read Magic I think we should check out some of the other magic items we got.
Paavo will draw the two-handed sword from its sheath. Make sure it is whole and see if there are any ruins on it. He will also handle the metal flask to ascertain whether it feels like it contains a potion. If it does feel like there is a liquid then he will open it and check out the liquid. See if it is an oil. Smell it. Taste a little.
If Trommer does not want the ultralight chainmail then Dan will don it assuming it is human-sized.

I can wait until this weekend. I just want to make sure those of us not memorizing a spell get a chance to do something during those 15 minutes.

When it is unsheathed, I do want to check if the sword matches any description we received of Anguvmar, the Stream of Anguish, from Benesarion.

When it is unsheathed, I do want to check if the sword matches any description we received of Anguvmar, the Stream of Anguish, from Benesarion. Well from the fact that it drips glowing liquid that hurts people when splashed on them, oh and the fact that the until-recently-frozen Epicaste has identified it as such, we know the sword is Anguvmar. Good session. Not everything worked out as planned but we had some lucky die rolls that helped out a lot. The Immortal King eventually fled (teleported) having used most of his offensive spells. With the help of a Maiden of Ukko (Marguerite) we defeated an invisible stalker and a type I demon that the lich had summoned. She wasn't able to get to him due to his protection from good. Which would probably have run out soon. Trommer and Friedrich did land some blows on it before it took to the air. Turns out the potions of strength was a potion of super-heroism which actually worked out better. The potion of speed was useful in part because it negated the effects of the slow spell. (We forget to have the slow spell continue after the potion's duration expired.) Trommer saved against polymorph other. Friedrich and Trommer (with the aid of the lucky horseshoe) saved against confusion. We all saved against his fireball. With the lich away licking his wounds we got healing from Marguerite. She used dispel magic to return Marcus and Falconus back to their original forms. No luck on the Zargon tattoo on Friedrich, his lost shadow or any traps on the spellbook. She admonished Paavo not to call on Ukko for one year and to go rescue Gwenibritte (?) from the prison (cf. vision before attack on Hadraith Tor). We spent another hour searching the treasure room and found some nice stuff. With most of our hit points but low on spells we headed back to exploring. Highlights: -Colby learned that setci wand shoots cone of flame (6d6). -found frozen man and woman in plate. -woman revived but speaks some ancient language -Colby used Comprehend Languages to provide temporary communication -she is helping us navigate the place -fought more bugbears and yuan-ti -yuan-ti failed magic resistance and saves -Paavo saved against polymorph other. -from temple to Madura (?) we teleported to the "garden" and likely location of the Well of Life.

Objects of interest: Vault of Elders, containing the Knowledge of the Elders. Golden Tablets of Laanhatra Talisman of Phe - a potent artifact Anguvmar - "Stream of Anguish", magic sword. Fountain of Eternal Life Sign of Ulsimagarus (patron god of Ulshamaran) I recall us finding something medallion-like in the treasure hoard. Was it magical?

Actually I think we found the medallion on one of the yuan-ti we killed. It definitely looks like the drawing. We haven't had a chance to detect magic on it. But good catch.

Random thought. Do you think the magic stones we found in the yuan-ti's nest could be Ioun Stones?

Here's another thought.
We should have searched for pearls when we looted the Immortal King's treasure room.
Did any of use state that we were?

Here's another thought. We should have searched for pearls when we looted the Immortal King's treasure room. Did any of use state that we were? We discussed it, but the DM said that the gems left were in the 10-50 GP range, and so any pearls in that range wouldn't be usable.

I think we only found 2 of the 100 gp variety. They are on Paavo's Character Sheet.

Anyway, at this point the problem is not a lack of pearls but a lack of a 24 hour period to safely identify an item. I'd think that almost any item from the hoard would be identifiable by our sage, so we should hold off on wasting the pearls in any case.
This reminds me that we promised to take rubbings, etc. We should start doing that. I bet Benesarian will wet himself if we are able to bring back a real, live ancient.

I was thinking the same thing. If we can keep her around she would be a gold mine for finding Ancient stuff that was lost in these and other ruins.
Also her knowledge of the Ancient language will be helpful with the carpet of flying since it likely only responds to words in that language. That would be the first thing I would like to identify. It would certainly make getting things out of the rift easier.
We should copy down the rune we saw on the tomb of the Immortal King. And I bet Benesarion would pay handsomely for the 4 vases we got in the antechamber.
It is kind of hard to stop and make rubbings when we are being attacked all of the time. I guess we will just have to kill everything and then take our time with documenting the place.
How long has it been since we left the men and horses underground? I get something like a day: -4 hours (?) to rift -1 hour to map -1 hour to travel to the entrance of the ruins -.5 hours getting to the yuan-ti's chamber -1 hour searching for secret doors -1 hour making our way to the antechamber -8 hours sleeping -1 hour fighting the Immortal King -1 hour searching treasure -1 hour to current position

Any planning we need to do for this Sunday?
We have got 20 bugbears in the vicinity and a yuan-ti that has run off (presumably to get reinforcements). Everyone already knows we are here. We are pretty good in terms of hit points (though we could use some wound binding following the last melee) but we are tapped out in terms of spells and healing. At least 3 people have leveled up but haven't had a chance to sleep. We are loaded down with a bunch of treasure (carpet, suits of armor) as well as the body of Epicaste's companion. Anything else to note?
Do we want to keep pushing forward? Or do we want to find someplace to hole up for awhile?

Marcus would have mentioned by now that the medallion with the strange 5-pointed star just found on the yuan-ti is identical to the one he took from the yuan-ti he killed back in the jungle. How long has it been since we left the men and horses underground? Approximately a day. Any planning we need to do for this Sunday? ... We are loaded down with a bunch of treasure (carpet, suits of armor) as well as the body of Epicaste's companion. Anything else to note? I'm going to determine actual encumbrance based off your character sheets. I suspect you may have to discard some things at the start of next session.

Epicaste also appears to have information to communicate but the language barrier prevents this.

Epicaste also appears to have information to communicate but the language barrier prevents this. We should see if she speaks any languages that the Friedrich and Ingrid speak. Of course even those could be different as a result of passage of time and/or geography.

We could retreat back into the city assuming the teleportation is two way. Or maybe Epicaste knows someplace to hide down here. I think if we spend another 8 hours resting behind the secret door we will have to worry about the Immortal King coming after us. BTW, how do undead regain hit points?
How do you think the current inhabitants will react to the Immortal King? Do you think he will automatically be able to assume leadership? It has been hundreds (thousands?) of years since he has been out of his sepulcher. Maybe they have no idea who he is. Maybe there is a big, bad evil that won't take to being muscled aside.

Rough game. Colby was disemboweled by harpies. Friedrich is unconscious and at death's door also having been savaged by harpies. Paavo was transformed into a snake. And Marcus is dead having been chewed up by an 8 headed (Lernaean) hydra.
Colby at least was burned to ashes and rose again like a phoenix with the help of Epicaste and his cloak with the flame symbol on it.
Right now we have Trommer (2 hp), Dan (4 hp), Falconus, Epi, Colby, and Ingrid. Paavo is hanging around Trommer's neck providing 10' PfE. Hopefully once we get past this yuan-ti abomination it won't be hard to find the Well of Life.
Outside game comments: -I can't believe a Lernaean and non-Lernaean hydra have the same xp value. Regeneration is a huge advantage. Also I would like to note that it takes 1-4 rounds to regrow heads. And it should only have done d6 damage when it had 5 heads and d8 when it had 8 heads. Not the 3d10 poor Marcus got. I hope our xp reflects the additional difficulty.

I was very surprised to see that as well. You got experience for a 12-headed hydra. 24 bugbears was huge (4000+) XP. it came out to over 10k XP divided by 3 players.
