Maybe we could head back to the glade and pay the sisters to cast Death's Door on Basil? That sounds like a huge waste of money. Money which we'll probably be pulling out of the magic sack, which they'll then probably try to claim. We should check the two doors in the throne room first and take whatever treasure we can find/carry. If there's none in the rooms adjacent to the throne room, we can reevaluate, but if there's a bunch of loot we head back to Fort Guy to rest and train.

I hadn't thought of this before, but how far are we from the hobgoblin base near that lake? It's possible that the weapons are for them. If we're gone for an extended period of time, they might pull some troops from the forward base back to the monastery. Which would make the forward base an easier target for our attack.
Or, they might have sent a runner to get reinforcements from there. It would be really bad if we're resting here and 40 hobgoblins show up.

I think we are at least 4 hours away. When Kazan climbed the tree on top of the hill he saw the camp by the lake and in the distance there was another clearing. That may or may not have been the clearing near the monastery. Regardless it wasn't close by.

Keep in mind that we've been here for a few days. If the camp is a day away and they sent a runner after our first major incursion into their base, they could have reinforcements here any minute.

I would rather rest only because the idea of being carried around at -8 hit points is not a pleasant one if an encounter goes bad.

I would rather rest only because the idea of being carried around at -8 hit points is not a pleasant one if an encounter goes bad. Basil is at -8, Kazan is at 1, Gareth is at 3, Rensslaer is at 6, Morvan is full at 9, Zinc is at 11. Cullen is at unknown. Every spell we use healing Basil is one that could keep Gareth up and fighting. Basil will be equally helpless at 10 hp or -8 hp. Maybe one heal is in order to make sure that he doesn't accidentally die if Kazan drops him, but the rest should be used sparingly.

I don't disagree with that. I just think that the five hours of rest and healing is a better gamble than trying to make a run for it.

I don't disagree with that. I just think that the five hours of rest and healing is a better gamble than trying to make a run for it. I still don't really understand this. Resting for 5 hours in the throne room of the king, who is outside with his followers plotting our death, is pretty inherently unsafe. Especially when there's a plate-mail clad priest stalking around invisibly.
