Karmuk doesn't know of any SK, but Turrock the Spider, in refering to their plans said that "Klim" had contacted him. Karmuk guesses that could be the K in SK. He doesn't know of anyone named San. Combing the other letters we have from slavers -- Has he heard of Tenma, Sigurd, Sanbalet, Farraus, Dravin or Ruff? The Black Lotus isn't a place in Flen; it's the guild of thieves. Karmuk knows that the Black Lotus's leaders and men live in a large, five story building known as the Roost. He's never seen it personally, though he doesn't imagine it hard to find. Great. This appears to be a multi-national slaving ring. I was really hoping we could take care of them or at least put them behind us, but they appear to be everywhere. Karmuk is uninformed about any other activities focused on the Company. Up until about eight months ago, Turrock the Spider would occasionally stop by with work for Karmuk and Marbreau. It was generally bully-boy jobs, like leading humanoids in raiding small hamlets along the Sterich/Geoff border. Those farmers captured were given to Turrock the Spider to be sent elsewhere. Karmuk presumed they were sold into slavery in the Hold of the Sea Princes, but they could have been sent anywhere. Karmuk is aware of several orc and hobgoblin tribes in edges of the Crystalmist mountains, as well as some ogres and giant-kind, that Turrock the Spider has had him lead. What has changed in the last eight months? What has Turrock been up to since then other than looking for our heads?

Combing the other letters we have from slavers -- Has he heard of Tenma, Sigurd, Sanbalet, Farraus, Dravin or Ruff? Karmuk, when leading humanoid tribes in raids, had heard from Turrock the Spider of Tenma. Tenma was Turrock the Spider's contact for getting paid for his captives. Karmuk assumes that Tenma is in the Hold of the Sea Princes. Karmuk met at Turrock the Spider's a half-breed orc called Farraus. Farraus never spoke and Karmuk doesn't know the relationship between Farraus and Turrock the Spider. What has changed in the last eight months? What has Turrock been up to since then other than looking for our heads? Karmuk only knows that Turrock the Spider stopped having work for him and Marbreau about that time. What Turrock does on his own time is not something Karmuk wants to know about. Looking back at your calendar, it seems that the defeat of Tenma in the Dreadwood would be about eight months ago.

Karmuk met at Turrock the Spider's a half-breed orc called Farraus. Did he say where Turrock's place is? Is it well defended? Is there likely to be more stuff there? Is it closer than then Karmuk's place?

The letter as translated by Dell: Most of the information that is in this thread is accurate. The Orcs say that the hobgoblins are coming from the west. The foothills continue in that direction. The map that you have which appears to give directions to some caves and on to Suderheim indicate that it is south of your current location, in the Drachensgrab mountains. The orcs also told you that the hobgoblins were Turrosh Mak's men. I finally put together that the Turrosh mentioned in these letters is probably the same guy. The dragonnels must have been the flying dragon-like beasts. I guess this would have been more useful to put together earlier. Do you think we should start a topic where we just keep track of various pieces of information that we get? We could keep all of the letters we find, the descriptions of magic items (useful for example when one of us is unconscious and the rest of us aren't sure what a certain potion does), summaries of conversations, etc. I guess some of this is already included elsewhere but it might be nice to have it one place.

Brilliant! Otto gets a gold star for today. We should think of some way to use this dispute to our advantage. Maybe we can get Turrosh to hire us to to assassinate Feetla?

Did he say where Turrock's place is? Is it well defended? Is there likely to be more stuff there? Is it closer than then Karmuk's place? Turrock makes his home in Sterich, southwest of Istivin, near the Joten mountains. Unlike Karmuk's place, it isn't a stronghold, but instead a breeding ground for his spiderhounds. Karmuk says Turrock is served by a small clan of goblin-like creatures that he's not seen elsewhere. He can draw you a map if you'd like. In terms of travel time, Flen is closest (12 days by boat), Turrock the Spider's place is next (18 days by boat and foot), and Karmuk's stronghold is furthest (20 days by boat and foot, through rough terrain at the end). The timing of their attack on you strongly implies that one of the many people scrying upon you is linked to Turrock the Spider. There would be no way for Turrock the Spider to get to Morningstar Inn without some foreknowledge of your movements.

This leaves a whole lot of possibilities for next week. I assume we will spend some time healing, raising the dead and identifying magic items. But what then?
Just so everyone knows I am going to take a couple months off from the game since the fall soccer season has started. I may drop in from time to time but nothing regular. While I am away Otto is going to travel to Farvale to pay his respects to his recently deceased relative. If I do have time to play, Dana has said I can use an NPC or some secondary character. I will try come by this Sunday after my noon game so that I can wrap things up.
All that being said I would be happier if we don't start on another long adventure immediately. We could do little things like exploring the area around the inn or we could head down to Kimberton which was mentioned in one of the slaver letters to see if there is any slaver activity there. But whatever the group wants to do is fine - Otto will just figure out when is the best time to head off to Farvale. Which will definitely be after we divide the assassins' magic items.

I will need to go get training soon so that will take at least five weeks of game time the way things go for me. That will give you plenty of time to take your trip. I think we can easily take some time to clean up the local spots on Gador's map (the spides and the Nerullite place).

I will taking off a couple of months in real time. This will probably amount to half of a year or more in game time. I was just suggesting doing something local for this Sunday only. The group can decide to go wherever they want while I am away from the game.

Exactly that's why I think one of those spots might work. I doubt that I will have enough to make the level this week. I will also likely not be there for this session. Who knows there may even be a back up hit squad that will show up.

Certainly and they will have some magical backup. We were probably being scryed upon during the battle so they will know the attack failed. If not then then the next day. Since we are constantly being scryed upon it might be hard to sneak up on them as we try to track them down. I'm not sure what level Cedrus needs to be to able to detect scrying and identify the culprit(s).

Isn't detect scrying a 4th level magic-user spell? Maybe the Silent One will give it to you in exchange for letting him examine the Necton fragment. Also we could always try dispel magic when we feel ourselves being scried upon. Better would be to get Magic Mirror and start doing some scrying of our own. I think the letters we have might be used to find the author or the recipient.

Cedrus can scry a location at 7th level (which he's pretty close to). I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that Turrock's sword of soul-stealing is evil-aligned and strongly enchanted (probably a named weapon). Maybe we can trade it to the Silent One for study in exchange for spells.

Anyway, it seems like, the first thing we should do is put our captive in one of the cells in the back while we wait for Dell. Then half of the party should return to longspear to get Max and Diego raised, with the others on guard. Once we're healed, hopefully Jasper and Cedrus will have returned. When they do, we can follow Kerrick back to his lair, get his loot, and "let bygones be bygones."
